Welcome to launch. Honestly is that all some folks do is complain right out of the box? What gives with people these days? They did the same thing in SWTOR. Rant, rant, rant...Damn dude, some bugs oh crap life is over...Probably because this isn't 2001-2004 anymore. And yet Companies Still don't get it. With WoW, there was no telling what was going to happen. There were no predictors. Nothing but nothing anyone could have done. Even worst/best case scenario contingencies could have properly prepared Blizzard and of course they were blown away but the unbelievable reality of what went down with WoW's launch. Was there a similar set of totally unforeseen circumstances surrounding the GW2 Head Start? I'm not aware of anyUm...WoW's launch was terrible. It was bug-ridden and had a lot of problems. Even expansion releases have problems. It's just the fact that there's launch.
You're right it's not 2001-2004 anymore. There are more people than ever that have an internet connection and that play online video games (many thanks to WoW). When WoW launched, they didn't have to worry about the numbers companies today have to worry about. If the game launches to where there are bugs that make the game unplayable and that are known from beta, then there is problem. However, when a game launches and the bugs don't rear their ugly heads until the mass influx of people show up, then it's a little bit more understandable.
While I agree that the game could have benefited from one more BWE after optimization, who knows if that would've done anything.
I am still not convinced these are "bugs" To me they seem more like ANET is trying to find it's sweet spot with the number of servers they need to bring online and get all networked and properly linked.
Now a days, you don't have real servers. You have a virtual farm. You put all your major systems in indvidual virtual servers and cluster them for load balancing. You can bring up or take off line what you need as you need. All the data storage is in a SAN. It's all virtual. And all these hiccups scream of tweaking these to get them all happy together. Yeah, it's understandable, but it should have already been in place.
This of course is just my theory and by no means am I claiming this is what actually happened. But this is the sort of thing I have seen happen in "Go-Live" environments at work.
I've hit two busted skill point challenges (mobs had despawned, or something, leaving it in a broken state). No big deal. One of them was working fine when I swung by again an hour later, the other I haven't re-checked but I'm sure it will be fine.
My only significant disappointment is that the Trading Post has not been functioning at any time I have tried to use it since five minutes after launch (I actually sold something in the first five minutes, though!). I'm always fascinated to see the economics of the very earliest moments of a game or expansion launch, and sadly that opportunity has now been lost for GW2.
I dont recall a bug where my party members dot disappears. You know how frustrating it is to have to log out and log back in to get the join button working only to constantly be like WHERE ARE YOU!? because their freaking dot keeps disappearing.
The game is definitely not bug free, and some of them are rather annoying (major issues w/ WvW, and the trading post). However, to state that the game has rampant bugs, or to suggest that there are issues left & right is severely overstating it.
I'm currently sitting at lvl 40 necro. I've only ran into 1 bugged quest across 5 different zones. A lot of the time a quest may seem 'bugged', but in reality you just haven't triggered the right events yet. I've got 100% map completion on Calendor Forest, Metrica Province, Wayfarer foothills, Plains of Ashford, & the grove / rata sum. I'm not saying the game is bug-free, but it is most definitely playable to a high degree.

There are defintely some problems. Although mail seems fixed now.
For you camera follow problem, are you using multiple monitor resolution? I get the exact same problem at 5060x1080 res and its impossible to do any serious jumping. But when I switch to nvidia surround at 1920x1080 I am fine.
Probably already mentioned, but this launch was very good. I have been able to play the game without any major issues at all, and im very happy. The minor bugs that ive encountered up till lvl 23 has been so minor that I dont really care. Every MMO has bugs, deal with it. Its been 1 day, and its not even officially released.
Originally posted by GrayGhost79 Actually can't say it was unexpected. Yes, they tested extensively but ... we are now have a few million players and it's not even launch. All servers are high or full with most being full and again it's not even launch just yet lol. These are just the headstart people. You can plan as much as you want but this many people at once can cause problems for even the most seasoned in the industry. At least I'm not falling through the world and or losing anything like in several other launches. So far it's just been minor issues which I can accept.
Umm, more likely a few hundred THOUSAND players, not a few million... They'll be lucky to get to a few million at peak. This isn't WoW.

I wouldn't call GW2 "bug-infested". With the exception of AH not working it's mostly minor issues. Annoying, yes, but you've seen worse if you played other MMOs at release.

Boy, the term "bug" has sure changed in meaning since when I was programming. Now everything wrong is a bug whether it's a fluke in an otherwise well-working program (original definition), poor company planning, or just plain lousy programming.
Frankly, I don't care how other MMOs were when they launched. That's irrelevant to the topic at hand. It's like buying a new car that turns out to be a lemon and saying, but it's not as much a lemon as the new car my friend bought. The car, and any other new purchase should function correctly at the time you get it, period. Anything less is unacceptable. Because people have grown to accept companies launching shoddy games/programs does not mean it is appropriate for a company to do so. Remember that old saying your mom probably told you, "Just because so-and-so jumps off a bridge, does that mean that you should too?"
Errors brought on by high server loads are not bugs. They are a sign of poor company planning. It doesn't take rocket science to make server load estimates when you know the number of copies of the game you pre-sold ahead of time. There is absolutely no excuse for these issues. You already have the number of people who could be online during this time period, you add, say 15 to 25%, and there's your estimate. Kind of like any other business makes estimates, except most don't have the luxury of already knowing numbers ahead of time.
The issue of the trading post not working falls under lousy programming. The thing hasn't worked for any extended period of time during betas, or now either. The fact that you don't get the thing fixed before launch is plainly inexcusable.
A quest not working right for some people here and there, well that might be a bug. Every other problem is due to ridiculously poor company planning and less than stellar programming. For a company relying heavily on this game to keep them making money, and afloat, to launch a flagship full of cracks and holes is, well, definitely not the wisest thing to do. Someone should definitely be looking at the management involved and getting some brighter people in there because I think it's safe to say that some of the people they have now are ... well, I'm sure you can fill in the rest.
