Guild Wars 2 vs WoW

SathnorSathnor Member Posts: 32
If you compared the two mmos, which do you think will come out on top. I know they are very different mmos but my main question is do you think Guild Wars 2 will finally topple the king of mmos? Post what you think?

Will two people voted yes so there are some people who do think it will. Btw I voted idk because I think it has the potential, but it seems like a massive feat to do so.

With no sub fee GW2 becomes the "other" MMO. I predict most people will keep their P2P MMO alongside GW2, there's no reason to have to choose between the two. It's like asking if Skyrim will kill WoW.
Sig so that badges don't eat my posts.

LOL!  Let's start by seeing GW2 topple LoTro , which should be a easy task for all you GW2 fanbois out there.

I haven't laughed out loud this much reading a thread for a while , thanks for that!

     Will GW2 topple WoW?  LMFAO!!!

It's haven't even sold 10% of what Skyrim sold and Skyrim sales are considered chickpeas compared to WoW.  400 concurrent users as one said against a few million on WoW side?  Good luck with that!

Ya, this is getting ridiculous. It won t ever topple WoW, and even if it gets close they just release Titan. Really though, it won t come close. I thought it would have higher sales then it does already, and even then I thought no way it would come close to WoW.

Oh yeah, completely forgot about that, I've seen many posts in forums saying that they will keep playing their current MMO while playing Guild Wars 2, but some people might get so caught up in Guild Wars 2 that they might stop playing WoW, anyways the new "Titan" MMO coming from Blizzard probably will end WoW.

I just got to these forums and I think people being overly fixated on comparing these two games are pretty annoying.  There is never going to be a clear this game is better than that game just like there is no clear "best" flavor of icecream.  Many of us played WOW and really enjoyed the game to a point when it got old and repetitive.  Guild wars 2 is fun and new but don't overhype it and make it out to be something it's not.  Lets all just enjoy the game while it's fun and stop focusing on sales dollars, subscriptions, power leveling, and determining "the best."

it'll have at least a smidgen in at least touching wow's pinky toe (if it was personafied of course) when anet can rack up at least a $1 Billion in revenue (i'm going easy here and not even using profit) minimum from just Guild Wars 2.  Then we can at least begin to contemplate your question.

GW2 will kill WoW.. for one month. Then everyone will forget GW2 exists and return to play WoW.

400k on a launch day... with over 1 million pre-purchases ONLY, which means the numbers of sales are even higher... let's see if MoP can sell more than that on it's launch day... Now that kinda brings you back down to earth, doesn't it?

just because Michael Jordan is old and hasn't played professionally for many years now, does that mean you can't compare current players to him?

Whether you're an anti-fanboi/fanboi, it's undeniable that wow was a game changer for the mmo space.  and it's hard to name any other mmo that has had the impact that wow has had on the whole industry.

MOP will sell far more than a million pre-orders and day 1 sales, Cataclysm sold 3.3 million in the first 24 hours, Wrath sold 2.8 million in the first 24 hours and TBC sold 2.4 million in the first 24 hours (neither of these expansions were avaliable in china at the time).. I see a trend here?

GW2 will sell well but lets be real here.

That's 1/10th of the amount of money he was talking about....

Also, to your other post, I lol'd. MoP should EASILY breach 1 mil in preorders, they'd only need to get 25% of current players in the US and Europe to hit that number.

Try hard is try hard man. Not to say this thead has any point to it, I don't even know why you fanboys really feel the need/desire to bring down WoW. You must REALLY hate that game, or have nothing else to do with your lives.

I honestly dont care how good a game is, nothing will every top WoW, its to entrenched for any single game to make an impact, and the market is to dilute now to ever reach those numbers again.

Now over 1 million is just prepurchase, there's no pre-orders, or retail sales yet calculated in those numbers. So, I think the game isn't that far from dangering wows ultimate position like supergamerx thinks it is with its overexaggerated reactions and "talking to the peasents from high ground" way of replies.

hmm how many preorders did MoP get in 24 hours ...whats that? Not 1 million? But wait...GW2 breached 1million prePURCHASES in 24 hours? And god knows how many pre purchases its gotten since that first day it became availabe. Lets all google the numbers!

    also: http://www.vgchartz.com/preorders/

Guild Wars 2 pre-ORDERS(not total sales or prepurchases) vs MoP pre-orders

    6 Guild Wars 2 PC 2 11,259 232,531

12 World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria PC 6 7,853 104,972

Looks like that was last updated on the 18th. So we can speculate from there

None of those expansions had decent competition. That's not to say it won't sell well, but I know a fair amount of people who are trying gw2 and are going to let their subs run out- its not rocket science, gw2 is shall we say as good as wow, many wow players crave something fresh ( many don't). It will be impacted big time after everyone had maxed levelled mop after a week.

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D
