I got lost on the pvp map and wanted out, after wandering around I took a gate to Lions "something" there was this masive statue of a lion pouncing, looked fantastic and who ever did it has some real skill.

only one game in my history of mmos had failry good launch and it was rift, others including wow and most of them wich i played and i played alot had disasterous launches. this is nothing compared to some of the past. only lag is annoying but that just comes with having alot of players ingame.

Honestly Rift had one of the best launches I can remember.  Not that launches matter too far down the line but companies really should at least be better prepared for the amount of people they are going to be accomodating.

NO NO NO, Rift fell just like the others. i believe it was 50% of the players accounts being hacked that did it. They fixed the issue well, but the community never looks at fixes they look at what was the problems. (case and point AoC)  Rift was slightly better than standard but that is all im giving it.

    Because i can.

Slightly better than standard is extremely good for the standard mmo launch.  There were virtually no issues aside from some server queues.  Wonderful launch.

I have seen worst. I bought The Old Republic and I even needed to setup subscription to play it (most games give you month included and do not require to setup subscription until that month is over) and yet I was unable to login to my primary server for a week or two after launch.

I'm playing in the evening and then there is no problem loggin ing. You can have hard time loggin in afternoon.

Lag is only on overflow server since everyone are send there as we noticed. We had people from german, french and english servers there.

So considering that since saturady I can play everyday without problems I think it's a best lauch so far that I experienced. Yeah, overflow server is laggy sometimes and from time to time loggin server is down/busy but hey - at least I can still play the game with no problems and every promised feature is there. It's much more than others shown us this year (especially TOR and Bioware)

BTW this is less of my hatred for Rift (i dont have much hatred for any MMO To be Honest) and more of proving my belief that a good launch doesnt happen. every game trips and falls out of the gate.

    A few things to consider:

    1.  Possibly the most people logging into a new game at launch.  The only game close would be TOR but I'm not sure they had 1M+ but it would be close.  What happened with that game? Major queues even though there were 100+ servers.  A lot of people not playing at all.

    2.  The major issues? Broker and mail.  Might be the fact that those 1M+, who knows by now, all share the same system.  Since the economy and mail are shared across all servers it's a little understandable there are problems.

Edit: and with that, games back up =)

I don't feel bad for them. While GW2 is solid, the innovations it offers ain't that big, there are still some annoying problems (no forums?) and I don't think that the combination of buy2play and cash shop ain't that perfect either. I like it, I play it too, but there are also hundreds of other awesome games out there you can have a great time with. So no reason to feel bad for others imho.

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

That depends on if you include the security of their own game a problem of Anet... personally i do.

Nah, I'm not feeling at all like I'm missing out on something by not purchasing Guild Wars from the start. Maybe in three months, maybe six? It just depends how things pan out, or if there's any retention and longevity. The B2P model isn't a bad thing either, but I'm not enthused enough to spend fifty dollars for something that's still a gamble.

See B2P or Sub is a big question for me. If the game is going to release monthly content then a Sub is reasonable. if a game is going to release 5+ expansions and charge you for each one, Paying a sub robbery.

Go read the GW2 Disaster at launch thread please. The launch wasnt horrible but it was in no shape great. it was standard at best.

I am from Europe even and I had "ZERO" issues really. Only on saturday morning (EU time) the first 2 hours were bit shaky due to login problems.

But ever since Saturday afternoon I have been playing on and off without any problems!

The only thing that is annoying is the AH being down. But that is really my only gripe so far. And them communicating on Twitter only, instead of getting their own forums up and running!

Seriously tho.... I wonder how many of the people screaming dissaster and doom "actually" even bought and playing the game or are just flat out trolling!

A side note: I like how borrowing from 4 MMO's at once is passed off as innovative these days. Maybe compared to Rift it is but that's not saying much.

Not sure where all this lag some are saying.. I'm playing an older machine on one fo the busiest servers and I have no lag.. If any is there, it's undetectable by me.. I've had no issues of  other then the initial log in burp they had on day one, which was quickly patched..  No game launch has been clean in years.. They all had burps and GW2 was cleaner then most.. As for the cash ship thing??  I havent' even noticed or cares.. I'm too busy actually enjoying the DE to take a time out to look at the market..  I've had no bugs in any events, or game play and that is a good thing..   Keep up the great work Arenanet.. :)

its a standard launch. Every game has fallen flat on its face at launch since WoW was released. it's not something you can get passed. i wish the fanbase would, according the a large group of the community on here AoC was a horrible game because of its launch issues... THE GAME LAUNCHED YEARS AGO.

Having a bad launch is standard. its how the game picks itself up afterward that matters. we will see in the next few days if it stands up running, or fails to notice its shoes are tied togeather.

I wouldn't call it a gamble (esp. with the B2P model), you'll get A LOT more hours of fun out of this game than any console games (or even single player games on PC) you buy for the same amount of money.

If you can show me proof or an admission by ANet or NC Soft that thier failure of security is causing the hacks I will believe it and regard it as such. Without it there is only heresay and speculation.

    They are not compromised (yet).

hackers are currently using existing stolen databases and trying email addresses and known stolen password on the account system.

I have so far only gotten one reset password request in the mail (yesterday).

Just ignore it and continue on playing.

PS. They also just updated a status regarding this and them having dissabled the password reset feature, until they bring online email authentication, which is starting today.

Even with all the minor bugs and trade post being down people are just letting it slide because they are having SO MUCH FUN playing the crap out of this game. WHAT A LAUNCH!! Honestly, I feel really bad for the people so jaded by the horde of mmorpg let downs in the past few years that they are willing to let the game of the decade slip away. sigh.

Why feel for sorry for me? you don't me or most of the people on here so this is a rather strange thread really, though psychologically you could be over compenstating for some inner insecurity about needing acknowledgment from others that you've bought into the correct form of entertainment. It is hard to accept other people have other views about things isn't it though for many its easier to follow the popular crowd to over come this, safety in numbers.

And as for a great launch...

Players couldn't log in all day Saturday and same again on Tuesday, trade post down, long WvWvW queues, broken join in button, overflow servers splitting up friends, Mail not working, HOM rewards not working, lag, ERROR42, some saying DE are bugged, you only have to look at the twitter feed to see all the problems. CO, Aion, SW:TOR even Darkfall had a beter launch than GW2, I think you are only trying to convince yourself on that one.

This doom and gloom thread was brought to you by Chin Up™ the new ultra high caffeine soft drink for gamers who just need that boost of happiness after a long forum session.

I'd say based on every MMO launch predating GW2 and calculating those as the "standard" GW2's launch was above standard....

    just sayin'

Since you've done calculations, you wouldn't mind copy + pasting your list so that we ourselves can see it and see if we reach the same conclusion?

I've never bought a title based on how smooth or bad a launch is and I'm not about to start now. I didn't like GW1 at all so I see no reason to buy this title. Just because dynamic events (gimmick) is thrown into the mix and a few other gimmicks doesn't really change my stance on that.

Don't feel sorry for me. I'm having a blast in 2 betas
