Thats nice, why did you come to the GW2 forum to tell us this?
Hacked accounts are the USERS FAULT.
That guy clicked purchase 3 times. Just like any website order, YOU CLICK IT ONCE.
I remember when sony said this for the ps3 it didn't go over well did it? Lots of people have made large facts bassed on the current security of anet. It's nice to know you got all yours lined up before it was like nuh uh anet does no wrong.
Sony came out and said "We've been comprimised". Way different than sharing your email and password between games/forums and having it hijacked...
So... is this some kind of a revenge thread?
Really though, I hope they get all those account issues in that thread figured out quickly and cleanly. I know how frustrating it can be to get double charged.
But then become a sellers problem. They should have known from recent history, the security needs have risen. I mean really how don't you know it? Stupid, stupid gamers know it.
There should have been a second level from the start either a pin or a email verification on each new unit. (And no we don't need another device for authentication, that is old thinking)
this isn't a post about revenge,
i am just saying BW made a better work with a MMo than Arenet :P
Yeah they did after somone told the media wtf my credit cards been jacked. Just like sooner then later Anet will have to come out and be like my bad?!?!
Ohh, and sony didn't go it was all the customers fault for using the ps3 to buy stuff online.
They won't have to come out and say my bad, because they haven't been comprimised. It IS the users fault.
If they had been comprimised you would see many many more accounts being taken.
There are WAY to many accounts hacked right now to blame the user even on day 1 people were reporting hacked accounts, even anet themselves came out with A ip checker are more then 1000 members have said Ip not pinged near thier location have been sccessing thier acccounts. Nice try thou trying to pass the buck.
I can tell you that if their servers were comprimised, they would be required BY LAW to disclose that information.
Also this forum and their twitter/facebook pages would be spammed with hacked play accounts. They aren't.
There are probably thousands that got hacked out of millions of players.
Read this! If you don't want your account hacked, don't use the same email address and password for Guild Wars 2 that you've used for another game or web site. Hackers have big lists of email addresses and passwords that they've harvested from malware and from security vulnerabilities in other games and web sites, and they're systematically testing Guild Wars 2 looking for matching accounts.
We're doing everything we can to protect you. But to protect you in this case, we have to start with, "the hacker knows this person's account name and password; now how do we keep him from stealing the account?" That's hard to protect against. Don't let it get to that point. Please immediately change your password to a new, strong, unique password that you've never used anywhere else.
Our customer support team is prioritizing tickets from customers with hacked accounts or who are otherwise blocked from logging into the game. If your account was hacked, please follow these instructions for submitting a ticket, to make sure that your ticket is correctly prioritized and to make sure you're submitting all the information we need to restore your access.
For hacked accounts, expect a response within 72 hours. As of this writing we're working on tickets submitted August 30. If you submitted a hacked account ticket on August 29 or earlier, and haven't received a response yet, your ticket may not be correctly prioritized. In that case, please submit a new ticket using the above instructions, and in the title write, "Hacked Account - Ticket submitted August 2x - Ticket number xxxxxx-xxxxxx" (fill in the date and ticket number), and we will prioritize your existing (August 29 or earlier) ticket.
We're leaving the "reset password" feature disabled for now. If you forgot your password, please contact the customer support team. We're leaving this disabled for now because we believe that a significant number of customers are unaware that hackers have the passwords for their email accounts. If we enable "reset password", a hacker who can get into an email account can use that access to get into the associated Guild Wars 2 game account.
Email authentication is a feature we use to prevent hackers from gaining access to an account even if they know the account name and password.
We suffered an outage of email authentication mails today, preventing players from authorizing logins from new locations. This is now resolved. When you receive an email authentication message, or any other email fromnoreply@guildwars2.com, do not mark the email as spam! If you do, your email provider may prevent you from seeing any future email authentication messages.
Why are half of thier updates about account security if they arent getting blown up about it. Also thier awnsere to everything on facebook and twitter is contact customer support. It's not like anyone can see how many tickets they have oppened about it , but it was a serious enough issue for all of this attention thou.
Yes I did, and if somone was putting trojans and bots from all these other games and websites to know your exact profile they wouldn't just stop at gw2. They would have your CC info your email adress, maybe even your paypal and amazon/ebay accounts. Stealing your slot on a 60$ game would be the lest of your problems. Also it wouldnt have happend day 1 if it was just A email account problem.
Or you know it could be that with the recent security compromises with Blizzard, SOE, Yahoo, etc., that those who have malicious intent have a very large database of emails and passwords. Those who use the same email and password across multiple games and even websites are at risk of having their account compromised. Right now all password reset emails are fake. If you are receiving a password reset email, then don't follow any link or even open it. It's just like receiving those fake "Blizzard has evidence of account compromise" emails. Don't ever open them or even follow the link.
People dont' realize how easy it is for any account you have to compromised. The mere act of going to a website with infected ads, images, etc., can compromise your account.
Could Anet have more account security features for the user? Most definitely. I don't think anyone disagrees with that. However, there is a certain level of responsibility that falls on the user to keep their own account safe. Watch every link your visit. Don't just go to some random website, don't visit fake news sources on GW2 (which I'm betting some people do, whether they mean to or not), etc. Use Anet's email authentication feature with an email account that has a two step authentication method. And most importantly LOG OUT OF YOUR EMAIL ACCOUNT WHEN YOU ARE DONE, and don't visit any other website. It's possible for someone to view all of your active sessions.
If Anet was compromised then the hackings would be far more widespread. Right now, they aren't widespread at all. I would go so far as to say that those who have been hacked are a very vocal minority. Right now we have no evidence that anything is compromised on Anet's end. So run your anti-maleware program with the latest maleware database update, and watch every single link you click on. If the URL doesn't look legit, don't click on it.
How exactly would they have CC info?
Why wouldn't it happen day 1? If they have your email and password that you reused from another game/website/whatever, why would they need to wait to use it?
How am I a fanboy? I asked you simple questions to statements you made. I assumed you could back those statements up?
No other company is hiding in somone elses forums right now making this thier top 5 priorities everyday. If thier not breached then why waste the time? [mod edit]
I actually use common sense and previous experience to make my judgement.
They don't want to screw their players who payed 60 bucks to play.
You still haven't answered the questions I asked? If you don't have the answers, don't try to act like you know in the first place!
If they have your gamming account and you made a purchase in GW2 it remembers your last payment option especially if its a credit card.
No one knew exactly what Arena nets Website was going to look like until the day it launched. Then they would have to set up the program from their.
Seriously, you didn't awnsere none of my questions but yet you feel some sort of entitlement for your silly ones?
You haven't asked any question that isn't conjecture.
There is no CC stored with ArenaNet.
Even if there were, like with any subscription game, they don't show the information. Only the last 4 digits.
What is anyone going to do with 4 digits of a credit card number?
They could still purchase gems then use the gem trader to push it all into gold which they could send via mail to any account? You stll reaching?
Less time on video games, more time in school. I cannot take anyone seriously that posts like this.
You said this. You are flip-flopping.
