I left WoW lonnnngggg ago but looking back on it , none and I truely do mean NONE of the games "created" since 2000 have any new or original content. It's all just repacked in new shiny wrappings. Sure AoC created a slightly new combat system and i'm sure there are a few other innovations out there but let's be honest folks.
I give the OP much credit for going 'I didn't end up caring for the game' instead of 'It's a bad game' (because I didn't like it).
I personally don't get the fascination with WoW, didn't care for it in my trial, its humor didn't resonate with me, don't like the looks of it's game play at the top, and the community seems kinda rancid. But it obviously manages to keep those wheels turning.
If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.
To me it sounds like you weren't ready to give GW2 a fair shake.
I'm sure it took you time and effort to learn how to pvp in WoW, and similarly it takes time and effort to learn another game.
And you would probably be right, but my patience with MMOs has been growing thinner and thinner with each launch. I gave SWTOR three months, TSW two weeks, and now GW2 a week and a half. My frustration is not about the money spent, I'll always be able to go back to GW2 and soon SWTOR without spending any money. My frustration is that a game that is 8 years old is still, in my opinion, the best MMO on the market and it only took buying a half dozen games to figure it out.
I'm just starting to realize the grass is greener on my side, I'm not going to be jumping the fence anymore.
Thats not the case one game has eight years of content but really think about it how many ppl or even new WoW players play the low level content? Hardly any at this time that i know of!
You have every right to your opinion as the next person. Personally I think all MMO's now a days lost their focus because the 800 pound Gorilla came about and everyone wanted to be that Gorilla! You can't just keep copying and think you'll succed like blizz! Only game that seems to try and break the mold is GW2 in a way!
Open world, housing, a true stuctured political system like Vanguards, and other tiny Niche's are whats going to be next on everyone's radar as long as the core can still be enjoyed! Like it's consoles counter part both MMo's and Console gaming are all about smashing sales! Dont put the horse before the cart!
Below is where we can disscuss and come up with new ideas for Sandparks!

I've been looking for the WoW replacement, and it's been a futile endeavor for me. WoW is the 800 pound gorilla because it is that good.
My first love was SWG, I yearn for a sandbox like that was before they ruined it trying to be WoW. Isn't that ironic?
If someone would give me a sandbox that isn't indy and low budget, it might just replace WoW for me. But until then I'm going to pass on any themepark MMO because WoW does it better than anyone else.
Maybe, but I have more fun PVPing in WoW, and having fun is the point of an MMO or any game. I'm not trying to change anyone else's mind with this thread, it's just me admitting that at the moment WoW is the best MMO for me.
If that makes me less of a gamer, so be it, but I miss my rogue and I'm going back like an abused lover.
For those who GW2 is their game, I'm jealous and happy for them, but it's time for me to be honest with myself, WoW IS the MMO for me.
Sorry to hear you dislike GW2, but WOW for PVP???
I been playkng games for 30 years, and if you call PVP what WOW offiers thats sad, because that has to be the worst PVP in the world, I played WOW for 7years from beta and the only time I liked PVP in WOW was at release.
Now I love PVP in many games, but thats more like gear vs gear.... But to each there own.

Sigh, no I wasn't expecting a sandbox. I was looking for something that could replace WoW.
Do I want a Sandbox like SWG was, absolutely. Was I expecting it, no. What I was trying to say that if it going to be a themepark, at least make it better than WoW.
There is nothing in GW2 that is like my rogue in WoW....
No, there is nothing like the ez mode stunlocking class you're used to in GW2. It seems you will have to return to WoW to feel like you're a good player.
No offense, but this was very pathetic, but expected. World of Warcraft was designed to make people feel really good about themselves with a constantly shifting balance cycle that often made its more popular classes quite broken. You're a product of that. Not sure why you expected a game that strives to be balanced to make you feel as strong as you did when you were overpowered.
It's pathetic that I like rogue? I guess this type of response is to be expected posting something positive about WoW on these forums.
Rogue is one of the most difficult classes to play in arena at high rating.
That's awfully convenient. They sure won't have a lot of trouble getting there at least. Plenty of time to practice.
My point with my post is that the OP was sad that he can't find an equivalent to the Rogue class in GW2. A class designed strictly to take as much control away from an opponent as possible while denying control upon himself. A class that's perfect in any composition in PvP simply by the sheer power of taking the away the mouse and keyboard from a player possibly better than himself, but caught in the net of a class with superior design. Design elements that completely disregard an opponent. The OP is disappointed there is no equivalent to a class that inherently shatters a game so much, that strategies have to revolve around his very existence.
I wish WoW had a meta-game that introduced ingenuity in its PvP, at any level~ but it doesn't. It used to. Maybe~ but it's become a very stale title of fluctuating power that typically has the Rogue in a very strong position or a very weak position because it is inherently a terrible class that succeeds only by being broken in doing what it does best. Fortunately for GW2 there is no equivalent.
Yes, he can go back to WoW if that's what he wishes. That game is DESIGNED for people like him to play it. It is meant to be enjoyed by a group of people who want an easier experience, and an overall sense of worth despite a lower cap in skill. The entire game from PvE revolves around it, and yet PvP is somehow devoid of it?
You really think Blizzard, the same people who dumbed down Diablo 3 to the point of idiocy~ who have made WoW the laughing stock of the PvE community in MMOs due to its ease and casual nature, will somehow not apply this philosophy to its PvP? The OP favors a game that makes him feel strong when he's not and playing GW2 is a sharp wake-up call, and who can blame him for wanting to go back to the dream? I sure can't. I'll call it out for what it is though. I can do that, at the very least. You're all entitled to play whatever the hell you want.
Yes, yes, I'm the loser re-subing WoW. This thread is sort of therapy for me to let my feelings out. I know that there are many who love the changes GW2 brought to the market, and I have no bad feeling towards them.
/crawlsbacktowow
I don't think your a loser. I think that WoW just suit you better and you enjoy it more then GW2. There is nothing wrong with that. To each their own. Enjoy World of Warcraft and stay thirsty my friend.

Wow, you're pretty much a jerk. Don't think I really need to add more then that to this because it blatantly obvious.
since the D3 was released and their devs for D3 said what they did on FB about the main creative mind behind D2, I lost what little respect i had for blizzard.
? I'm curious, what did they say? Do you have a link?
I didn't want to do it, I wanted GW2 to be my last hope...
But, it's not. GW2 has it's place on my hard drive, and it will continue too, but it isn't going to be my mainstay MMO. I really, really wanted it to be, but the PVP is just not what I was looking for. I thought the "balanced" pvp and the lack of gear differences would of been enough, but sadly it isn't. There is nothing in GW2 that is like my rogue in WoW....
Maybe I'm getting to old to PVP, maybe I do need gear to balance it out when I have had too many beers (my favorite time to pvp). But I'm finding myself wanting to go back to the PVP my fingers know.
It's funny that I'm sad that I have to go back to WoW, but it's time for me to realize that nothing out there in the MMO market gives me what WoW gives me. And that is simple, fun, killing of others. I don't care about massive battles, I want to kill the guy in front of me.
I know now not to prepurchase another MMO because I always end up back on my rogue, ganking at will, under stealth. I'm sorry GW2, you will be a great game for many.... just not me .
welcome back i absolutely understand how u feel since i've been there quite some times and i always go back cause no other mmo (except daoc and lineage 2 [i stayed for the castle sieges n ganking] ) can offer me what WoW can.

Personally I think GW2 is better than WoW as a themepark MMO in many ways. But of course, in the end it's all about personal preferences. To many people GW2 will be their main MMO, to others like you it'll be WoW bc out of habit and it's within their comfort zone or other reasons, to again others it'll be Rift, TSW, LotrO or whatever MMO gives best what they're looking for in an MMO for fun and entertainment.
Nothing wrong with that at all, I think. It's good to have choices that can satisfy a varied number of people and preferences.
Although I find it kinda sad for those people who've found out that they're only being able to truly enjoy 1 MMO, as if you're only able to enjoy 1 type of main dish. But hey, if they don't feel that as a limitation to their own MMO entertainment options, then good for them.
There is nothing in GW2 that is like my rogue in WoW.....
Dude, I totally feel you!
Tbh: My favorite MMO will always be Ultima Online. Nevertheless, in the last few years I had the most fun pvping with my rogue in WoW. I bought GW2 because I thought creating a thief will give me exact the same experience. It does not! PvP mechanics in WoW were much better imho. And although everyone tells me, that the pvp in GW2 is much more dynamic, I fail to see this. Maybe the reason I don't like pvping in GW2 is because there is no open pvp? I dunno. As you said: I only want to kill the guy before me. I couldn't care less for mass battles.
Of course GW2 is perfectly balanced as every single class can do every single thing equally good. Where is the challenge in that? And I am SURE after a few weeks when people figure out best ways to play classes everything, will be exactly like in WoW.
Impossible. In GW2, you don't get 70 levels of easy PvP farming with heirlooms. He's right, tricked out rogues are the most simple kills you'll ever get in an MMO. It's still one of my biggest issues with the game. There is absolutely no skill involved.
That's not to say I hate the game or its PvP. Enjoy your time in whatever MMO you choose, OP.
This started as a democratic thread saying GW2 is a good game but not for you, however the more you keep talking the more WoWfanboy YES FANBOY is showing. You hate the PvE and dislike the PvP, you don't enjoy any of the classes and apart from the "it has a space on my hd" offer nothing on the positive side. GW2 is a very good game, not the best but I've tried everything that came out before and it's miles ahead of current stuff. My question is... why did you even consider moving from WoW when you still have hots for it? It doesn't make sense, it's like cheating on your wife then going BUT I STILL LOVE ONLY HER. ( I hate those people) You can play more games, you can play them in the same time, you can like one more then other but be objective and honest. You try to sound honest but you give me this bad impression this thread is nothing but a spin on the WOW>ALL FOREVER <3<3GW2 SUCKS LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE KTHNXBYE and that my dear sir makes it useless.
I left WoW after TBC...There is no way I'd go back to that and try to level up to 85 now....TOo many other MMOs out nowadays to keep going back to WoW.
There is nothing in GW2 that is like my rogue in WoW....

I'm always amused by those who worship at the shrine of the great god "balance". More than just about any concept in game design, "balance" is an illusive phantom. That is, unless you make all classes equally bland. or some other such dodge. Games are about FUN and entertainment. I'll take a "broken" PvE game, over a "balanced" hybrid, any day, as long as its fun.
"Balance" consumes nearly endless amounts of Dev time/talent in a never ending chase that usually results in classes that are bland, and not all that interesting or fun to play. Not to mention spawning the FOTM cycle, as the nerf hammer swings back and forth.
It stems from the bean counter attempt to be all things to all people. In other words, tacking on PvP to a game that should have focused only on PvE, just to appeal to a wider demographic. In fact, it is the bane of PvE games, because in the vast majority of cases, "balance" (such as it is, from moment to moment) comes at the expense of the fun factor in PvE.
We've seen a great number of examples of this, and bean counters, being bean counters, we will no doubt see more in the future.

In fact, it is the bane of PvE games, because in the vast majority of cases, "balance" (such as it is, from moment to moment) comes at the expense of the fun factor in PvE.
We've seen a great number of examples of this, and bean counters, being bean counters, we will no doubt see more in the future.
