We can go back through the threads over the past year where so many concerns were raised and some are turning out to be 100% justified concerns. You mean like this?http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/post/5148135#5148135I hope you don't actually need someone to explain to you why that thread got a not so friendly response.
Put that kind of "criticism" on any games forums, and you will get that kind of response.

Yes, Kaelano, insulting a game and its fans because it doesn't play the way YOU want it to play is a troll post. Maybe you didn't intend it that way. If not, maybe you should look at how you wrote that post. All it was was insulting. Plain and simple. Even an objective person could see that.
I don't mind people stating their opinions. I do mind people insulting a game's players because a game they like doesn't fit what YOU want. Also, if people do state their opinions on a forum, they should also be prepared for others to respond with THEIR opinions.
And of course, like always, if you don't like a game, why continue to think about it? For instance, I hated Mytheon, yet I don't go to the Mytheon forum and complain that I thought it was a piece of crap. I just stopped playing and moved on. Pretty simple for those of us who don't need to scream for attention.
You want me to pay to play a game I already paid for???

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the OP is complaining about the lack of character progression in this game.
It's some of us have criticized and have been turned off about. They might as well just had no levels at all since you can basically get all your weapon skills at level ... levels really don't mean fuck all in this game.
And yet it is something that has been known for at least 2 years.

We did not "re-roll" to make our characters better, we worked harder and had more fun with what we had. I try to find reason in EVERYTHING that is not "MY" way, those are the challenges.

These responses are getting old "don't like it F**k off" i mean the man spent his money and should be able to voice his problems with the product.
We knew exactly how the game is going to be like. We knew about the downscaling, we knew about cosmetic end game, we knew this since 2010. Cosmetic endgame is a not a problem. It is a feature of this game. If you don't like this feature, why buy the game in the first place.
Spvp and WvW are about winning. Thats the only gratification I need from those. PVE is about collecting, exploring and fun with my guild and friends.
If you need a constant carrot dangled infront of your face, I feel sorry for you.
Constantly improving your character is one of the hallmark features of not just MMORPGs but RPGs as well, all the way back to when they were subtracting AC from THAC0 and rolling D20's. In GW2, they've sacrficed a lot in the way of character development to get their vision of balance implemented. My main problem with the game is that I just find it kind of boring. It plays like Champions Online but with only energy builders and cooldowns. I understand the whole "Simple to learn, difficult to master" aspect of GW2, but it basically just boils down to pattern recognition, and it could certainly have been packaged around a more interesting core experience.
Everything in the thread is reduced to an argument about blue being better than yellow. Objectively, GW2 is one of the highest quality games developed since Blizzard's WoW. There's plenty of things to agree with or disagree with subjectively, though. Nevertheless, people always seem to think there's something to be gained from arguing points of preference.
I and many other people are loving this title. We are enjoying it for myriad reasons. Many complaints people list in this and other threads are completely valid! There need be no further discussion on those ideas. You find WvW piontless? Ok. But what else is there to discuss?
After playing this game for 30 minutes, I realized this was a game I was going to play for a long time. If you played this game for 30 minutes, and were left wondering what the hell you're supposed to get out of it then you have your answer. People who are trying to paint this as an attack on those with differing opinions are offering strawman arguments (people saying "he paid money for the product why can't he voice his opinion?"). There's a difference between voicing your opinion and discussing elements of the product you think merit revision. This thread very clearly demonstrates that difference.
People who purchased the product and wish to exercise their "right" (as some so vehemently defend) to offer feedback and suggestions do so through the appropriate channels. If your goal is to communicate information to the developer for their consideration, the obvious approach would be to contact them directly or use the official game forums. That is not what's taking place on THESE forums, though. Here, people do what they've been doing with online games for ages. People buy a game with the hope that it will be a certain way. After playing it for a while, they feel cheated for purchasing a product that didn't provide them the experience they had hoped. That's the nature of this industry. We buy titles, sometimes we have information about them beforehand, sometimes that information is accurate. In the end, it's your choice to purchase a game. If it's not what you want, move on. If it is what you want, but you think it could benefit from adjustments (not fundamental changes) then you pursue the appropriate avenues.
Anything in this thread on this forum is going to be an argument of blue vs. yellow.
Meaningless....the game has meaning to me as far as I want to play every race's storyline as a different class each time to experience all the classes. I love Skyrim but I don't have any interest in playing a different style through the same story/world again simply because I have already done it. Basically to me Guild Wars 2 has multiple replays for the 60 bucks I spent on it so that is fine.
Everyone has a different view on what they want in a game. The people that have run to 80 in a short time and are now done and leaving are different from the people that take their time, read the storylines and miniquests and actually get into it. Nothing wrong with either one really. I leveled quickly in WoW and had fun raiding for years but I just don't want to do that anymore. This game is fitting my wants pretty well. I haven't even tried the pvp yet, just running through the story but I am itching to get into that as well. I played quake 3 and Live for years - no endgame of course in those games, just pvp so guild wars might have just the "endgame" that will keep me involved for a long time after I finish the RPG element.
Add in whatever expansions/versions of the game to come. What a nebulous murk. Who knows what may come?

think about what happened to games that strayed so far from their original design... take swg or daoc or many others.. once the change happened people left in droves. Many people got this game for what it is and are happy with it..when you try to cater to a small vocal % of the population you get things like what happened to swg.

Sure you get some points to use on secondary skills, but you are VERY limited in how many can use at a time.
Weapon skills are there right away. Side quests (jumping, vistas..etc) are the same over and over regardless of zone. DE's (at least the first 40 levels) are mindless grinds where waves of mobs are killed only to have to kill another mindless wave of mobs. whether it's stationary or you are protecting someone, it's the same....
I guess the best word for this game is generic and hollow. There is NO progression. RPG = Progression...whether it's MMO or just plain RPG....this has the depth of an FPS, but with swords and dragons....
Meh. Sorry you didn't like the game but i gotta say, you as well as millions of others knew exactly what this game was about months before launch.
It's not like other P2P games where they hid almost everything prior and then dropped the NDA long enough to have three days prior to launch and THEN have a launch that's nothing like the beta. yeah...remember that? anyone? I must be the only one who remembers that....
Anyway, the game was revealed in full months before the testing was completed, you shoulda read more or watched videos out on the youtubes woulda told you exactly what kind of game this was.
But we'll be seeing more of these style posts in the coming weeks as people who prefer P2P games and people who simply aren't playing this game at ALL continue their attacks on something different like the pod people pointing at the title going "NOT ONE OF US!"

It's funny you keep bringing up change considering that's what GW2 is founded on, change. What the OP seems to want is more of the same. More gearpower progression, more gear based PvP, etc. etc.
It's hilarious to me that you sit there and say that GW2 fans are afraid of change when many of the complaints are that things aren't the same as the others.
And to answer your question: If they make changes I don't agree with, then I will let them know on the official forums. If the changes are a game breaker to me and they don't change them back, I'll stop playing the game. Plain and simple. That's how it works in a free market. No one is being forced to play GW2 and there are many other choices out there.
You want me to pay to play a game I already paid for???
MMorpgs were about continuity, about getting challenged to be better, play more, trying to achieve something that seemed impossible at the begining.
How about GW2?
You reach 80 in like 10-15 days, u get the best available equipment easier than any other game.
Been playing since headstart, my highest character is 40. I take my time in each zone and city and get map completion. I also wander around and harvest and do events... Being 80 in 10-15 days is your own fault for power gaming.
You cant make any money by farming or using the TP (spending 20g to get 21 isnt money making...)
I sell every green I pick up off mobs, making gold is very easy if you play the TP smart. Anyone would spend 20g to try to flip it for 1g profit needs to learn how to make money lol.
Everything is about dyes and better looking armor as if it is a fashion show.
Which game isn't about fashion in a sense. Every single mmo that has come out since devs have made vanity armor slots has had this or been forced to put it in after launch by the players. Nice try though.
Every mob is aggro, so you have to kill everything to get pass through an area even if you are 60 lvl higher due to lvl scale.
Run past them...? Use waypoints if your passing through a zone you've been through before?
Jumping around like a goat to get vistas for a mystic coin.
You didn't know goats love jumping around for mystic coins? The devs said that during beta,"We love goats, especially jumping ones, so expect to be like one a lot and get some mystic coins."
Having 100% explored for 50 copper and a blue trash item.
100% world or 100% current map? I haven't completed the world yet.
Dungeons are a joke and rewards even bigger joke.
Haven't done one yet so I can't comment.
No raid bosses that require strategy and months of preparation.
Anet has stated repeatedly that they aren't following the cookie cutter WoW'esq endgame raid formula. That's your own fault.
WvW should be about getting a castle with your guild and keep it for a certain amount of time until someone sieges you. (like lineage2) .
They have this in WvW, it just resets after time. Now a weekly reset. You and your guild can do this.
Spvp without ranking system? i know better looking items...
Can't comment, I think the spvp is terrible in this game.
Equality ruins every MMO.
I mean one who is a good player or plays many hours should have more benefits from one who is bad or plays less.
Im still searching for an mmo without instances, with decent graphics, strategy, where your actions matter and there are consequences when u kill/die.
Enough with these mainstream carebear games!

I guess the best word for this game is generic and hollow. There is NO progression. RPG = Progression...whether it's MMO or just plain RPG....this has the depth of an FPS, but with swords and dragons....
With all due respect, most of your post is subjective. I would argue that GW2 has plenty of progression via map completion, Traits, Skills, weapon load outs, crafting, dungeons (story/exp), jumping puzzles, hidden mini-dungeons, etc. Now, I can't say whether or not it's progression you prefer, but no one could reasonable claim that this is "no" progression.
Your examples are all exaggerated or come from a point of preference. Thsi is completely fine, but it makes your assertion that the game is hollow...well...hollow. There's some variety in the area quests (maybe you'd prefer MORE variety...which is fine). The vistas range from simple and obvious to complex and challenging. Events are actually more in depth than you suggest (but again, maybe it's not in depth enough FOR YOU). Events have branching paths that seque into different scenarios depending on the outcome of the preceding one. Some events have to be "discovered" or initiated by players. The objectives are no more generic than every other MMO to date.
If you feel this game is generic I would wonder how you define unique. This game has innovated almost every major element of the genre. Once again, maybe you don't prefer those innovations, and that's fine! But anyone speaking from a place of neutrality who wishes to evaluate this game's achievements would be hard pressed to make an argument that this game is anything less than unique and innovative. That doesn't mean the person likes the game, either.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the OP is complaining about the lack of character progression in this game.
It's some of us have criticized and have been turned off about. They might as well just had no levels at all since you can basically get all your weapon skills at level ... levels really don't mean fuck all in this game.

You and I disagree on this. That's fine. You see a shallow, empty game. I see an organic, deep game. To each their own. Is it safe to assume that since you don't like the game you will stop playing it, and now since you've stated your opinion of it, you'll move on?
My whole point is: If you don't like the game at all, why continue to worry about it?
You want me to pay to play a game I already paid for???

Sorry, didn't get the memo that in order to play a video game and offer criticism, you are required to spend days upon days scouring the internet for every post, document and message from the developers about a game otherwise your opinion is moot..
And again, sorry for subscribing to the vertical progression model invented by WoW in 2004 even though it's been around since the days of pen n paper RPGs.
Seriously, we should just prohibit membership access to forums unless you can pass a lengthy exam on a given game.
Thank you for that.

Correct Answer! You have access.

Does this game allow you to permanently alter the world's surroundings?

WRONG!!! Only your Personal Story gets changed.
"But the manifesto says otherwise!"
"Duh! you should have realized they were talking about Personal Story and not world when they said world."

Time will tell, as in all things.
They could increase their player base (read profits) greatly if they made compromises to their original design. they wouldn't be the first company to do it either.
The key thing here is to be open minded with changes and compromise. but it appears the 'real fans' bang their drums hard in fear of change.
Besides, what's the problem with voicing those concerns here?
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. MMO's are supposed to be challenging and last long, hell football manager keeps me occupied for a couple of months each year.
Am i supposed to be bored of an MMO after 3 weeks?
Can anyone tell me one exciting thing to do playing gw2 everyday for a couple of hours
after having explored the map
after having exotic items
after painting your armor in all the varieties of rainbow colours -as if i care-
How is it fun to kill random ppl without a purpose?
Isnt it the same with killing mobs in an offline game?
Maybe i bought the wrong game but im still waiting for some proper answers/thoughts/suggestions
Nothing wrong with Horizontal progression (TSW)....or vertical progression like WoW....but the problem is that GW2 is very much so progressionless....

SWTOR:
"Is this a WoW clone?"
"Yes"
Correct Answer! You have access.
GW2:
Does this game allow you to permanently alter the world's surroundings?
"Yes"
WRONG!!! Only your Personal Story gets changed.
"But the manifesto says otherwise!"
"Duh! you should have realized they were talking about Personal Story and not world when they said world."
ACCESS DENIED!
