I'm not sure how to properly rate this game. It sure has a lot of qualities but after 2 weeks I don't have any desire to log in anymore.

You seriously needed an "I just wanna see the numbers" option there. Voted a 5, smack in the middle, just so that I could see them. Haven't played it, polls like this are what I'm investigating to see if I should bother.

    Where's the any key?

  • MithrandolirMithrandolir Member UncommonPosts: 1,701

    ^ that's true.

For anybody just wanting to see the numbers, as of right now it looks like this.

How do you like GW2 as it stands today?

     1 - 3.5%

     2 - 0.9%

     3 - 2.9%

     4 - 2.9%

     5 - 7.0%

     6 - 6.8%

     7 - 14.7%

     8 - 20.0%

     9 - 25.9%

     10 - 15.6%

    Based on 456 votes.

I gave it a 7, which is what I recently changed my rating on mmorpg.com's game list to.

I did have it down as an 8 shortly after release, but after a month of play the gloss is really fading quite quickly so I docked it down to 7.

It's a well-made game with excellent ideas, but I'm just finding it increasingly lacking in the "fun" department. To be honest, these last couple of weeks I've probably spent more time playing Diablo 3 than GW2, simply because it's just a blast every time I rip into a pack of monsters, whereas GW2's action is kind of slow-paced and frankly more often frustrating than exciting.

  • UkiahUkiah Member Posts: 273

I gave it a 7. There are a lot of positives, but there are a lot of negatives too. A little over a month after release and we still have broken DE's/skill challenges, overflow servers, and insane queues for WvWvW. But, that's not the real problem keeping the game from being rated higher. A large number of problems with GuildWars2 stems from their amazingly bad authentication system.

You can blame 'dumb' players for getting accounts hacked, but at the end of day ANet owns and operates the servers and code. It is THEIR responsibility to make sure they have as secure a system as possible. The fact that there is NO provision for a double factor authentication system, either through a phone app or a token fob, is inexcusable. Even BAD games like SWTOR have a 2 factor authentication system. It is THIS singular problem that has led to account hacking, botting and gold-selling. Additionally, it has led to the rather draconian and (ANet admits) buggy diminishing returns coding.

I am also disappointed in many aspects of sPVP, WvWvW and tournamets. There are only 4-6 maps for sPVP, they are ALL the same 'domination' gamestyle. WvWvW was an excellent concept and for the most part is well done, but there are some issues that need to be addressed and there are apparently still bugs with tournament rewards. Additionally, there is NO GuildvGuild mechanism in place.

I think the game had a solid release and has a future. It's an excellent successor or sequel in the GuildWars franchise, but I feel it might have been released too soon due to the continous existence of certain bugs and lack of certain features widely considered by the community as "how is this NOT already in the game?"

  • observerobserver Member RarePosts: 3,685
I voted 7, because of the issues at launch, bugged skill points & DEs, recent dungeon changes & DR changes.  I'm still having fun though, and leveling up a thief this time.

Actually GW2 was designed without hearts...but majority of players felt totally lost during beta in that vast world without a "hand to hold",so they decided to make the hearts to help those people.

If you are focusing in hearts...you are missing A LOT of Gw2.

You can see how the game was trully designed at the high level area "Orr".

Not a single heart there to guide you.

Hope next expansions will have less & less hearts in future areas...but ppl need to become familiar with that concept first.

You can see HUGE differences in game design that makes Gw2 stand apart in the genre in so many ways.

No it's not valid one bit, hearts are NOT what GW2 is all about sadly you seems to think so, hearts are only a form of direction for lost players, back in beta weekend 1 there were no hearts and some people felt lost and didn't had a clue what to do so Anet put them in.

DE is what GW2 is about, how to trigger them follow the chain thrue, finding jumping puzzles, find hidden caves, not run from heart to heart and do all the vista and poi and call it today and jump into a forum and say this and that is excactly like ! quest but instead of ! there are hearts.

Sure you can play that if you like and do some random DE you find on the way, but that playstyle is getting boring quickly so please before making a dumb post again learn what GW2 is all about before posting.

Let me guess, you didn't leave the first zone did you?

If it's not broken, you are not innovating.

    To all complainers.

You friggin gotta take a game and enjoy it for what it's intended to be.

My favorite game ever is LotRO (which only excels at one thing, landscape and PvE in the landscape), but I played EVE Online for years, and I do enjoy GW2 - Why? Because it does what it wants to do extrordinarly well. PvP and WvW is fun as heck, the dodge/counter based combat works and it runs like butter on most rigs. The PvE isn't the pinnacle of literary culture, but that was never to be expected.

Taking the game for what it tries to be, it's a 9/10.

Counterexample would be SWTOR. Tried to be uber at storytelling but bored me to heck with it. Now THAT's a fail.

    M

EDIT: Oh, and if you play the PvE as intended, not "run in, pop quest, grind centaurs, move on", but go to the respective NPC or town and listen to ne NPCs, GW2 gets pretty darn immersive. Yesterday I wanted to buy salvage kits in an inn, and suddenly I'm kicked out, the door gets shut and the whole place is under attack. That's small stuff, but the voice acting adds to it and makes it somewhat engaging. Not "the WItcher" engaging, but engaging.

    Voted a solid "9".

Only 2 things holding the game back from being my most enjoyed game of all time:

    1. The weapon/skill set and class based system.  Not a huge fan of having skills tied to weapons, I prefer opened ended skills I get to choose.  Also I think the original GW1 skill set choice would be amazing for this game, damned the balance nightmares it caused.
    2. The dungeons are a bit to chaotic without the trinity, even though I prefer the removal of the trinity I would like to see some method to make dungeons a bit less chaotic.  I suggested having each of the NPC helpers in the dungeons to be more like Uber tanks with low threat threasholds and where the bosses routinely pick stray players to do target for short periods of time.
Edit: me being the uner badass that I am in Orr.  Which I might add the temple siege system in the last 3 zones are hella fun.

Good technically well made game which I will play on and off for a while.  But for myself it misses something, there is no spark   , no " Omg i must play GW2 when I get home " X-factor.

Is it a good game ? Yes

Best MMORPG ever ? No not for me

While other games are maybe less beautiful or lack the technical achievement of GW2 .. they do hold a bigger playability factor .. and since that to me is the only thing that should be judged when I vote .

     So I voted 7

    This ^

After getting a character to 80 (and having close to 100% map completion, need to do more WvW), I now play with the map completion markers turned off. No hearts, No vista. Only waypoints & merchants.

It's really a much better game when you aren't focusing on the map half the time. I understand why they added hearts, but the game does suffer as a result. The reason they desided to base the game around 80 lvls was to cater to the same types of people, too. GW1 only had 20, and it was so easy to get that lvls didn't really matter much in that game. However, too many people are still hung up on progression for progression's sake, instead of trying to actually explore and get immersed in a world.

Doesn't matter how good an MMO is, people will never be able to really get engrossed in newer games like they used to, as long as they are more focused on map markers & glowing icons than the game itself.

    I voted 8.

#1 reason - I have fun whenever I am able to log in and play.

Why isn't it a 10? Well, despite it offering a very quality experience, it's missing a lot of things that I love/want in my ideal MMORPG.  However, for what it is, so far it's fantastic.

Another reason is that I barely get to play. I'm level 20 with 5 characters - altaholic :p

Why do I write, create, fantasize, dream and daydream about other worlds? Because I hate what humanity does with this one.

I voted 8. Since I could only vote based on what I have personally experienced (i.e. I haven't done dungeons yet) I think an 8 is a good score. Not perfect, but not too bad either. Solid game. Well worth the purchase price and time put in.

voted 6 cuz it is what it is..GW ..many ways its like the old GW..many ways its diff. most bad tho..altho i do play and it seemed great at 1st but now has gone stale fast..its riddled with soo many bots it makes me sick and trying to start a conv. with someone out of main chat is like trying to talk to a brick wall and rly anti social in many ways.

but over all IMO its meh ..at 1st it was cool that the idea that you didnt have to send invtes to grp was nice..now i find myself missing invites and a playable role...yah i get its diff. but i dont find these values good in a mmorpg..many things missing from a mmorpg and many things that i like in a mmorpg

IMO its an OK mmo at best..diff. and good to play for awhile but i will not ever see myself sitting down and playing  ALL DAY as i would with a newer mmorpg or older one..its ALOT of zerg zerg zerg

The MMO is a good fit for me:

    • Jump in and find action almost immediately, regardless of area
    • No fighting over resource nodes or xp on kills
    • Non-grindy crafting system
    • Not too complex, but not too simple character customization
    • Beautiful graphics

There's more, but those are the main points.

It doesn't matter if it has room for improvement. What matters in this particular thread for whether or not it should have a 10 is: " being outstanding and can't wait to play it some more"; if you feel that way, you ought to vote 10 regardless of whether or not the game can be improved.

Loud and clear. So I'll say I'm docking a point because there's not as many "side" activities to get involved in (need more things like kegbrawl!), plus the sometimes lengthy WvWvW queue is a deterrent for me to queue up when I don't have much time to play. I'll stand by my 9.

I gave it a 7. Well above average. Not quite near perfect.

if you want to make your own poll with your own criteria for different grades, you are free to do so, but the opening post specifically stated "1 being the worst expereince you have ever had" and "10 being outstanding and can't wait to play it some more".
Sorry I am not of your camp. What does 2-9 mean? Why not have a poll that is either 1 or 2, love it (1) or hate it (2).

Sorry I could not bolster your feeling about the game. As you see the poll, it is meaningless. I don't give out high numbers just to give out high numbers.

Because are there a wide range of possible subjective positions between "being the worst expereince you have ever had" and "being outstanding and can't wait to play it some more".

For instance, if you enjoyed your experience better than most games but you've grown a bit tired so that you no longer have the "can't wait to play it some more" feeling, then neither 10 or 1 is a fitting score, but it would go more towards the higher end of the scale.

Which my 7 did quite adequately. What was your gripe with my score again?

I did not object against your score per se, I objected against your scaling because your "1. 1-2 = Downright unplayable. " is far from necessarely coherent with the 1 ("being the worst expereince you have ever had") given by the opening post. Analogously, your "10 = Perfection personified. " is far from necessarely coherent with the 10 ( "being outstanding and can't wait to play it some more").

I chose a 7, but I will raise it to an 8 after they fix certain annoying things. I need more camera options besides the horrible camera we now have that sometimes makes me want to ragequit. And then there seem to be more skillchallenge bugs popping up. Or they are more apparent to me now that I'm completing maps. I also would like to see travel costs based on location, instead of lvl. Having to keep checking areas to see if the skillchallenges are fixed doesn't help with the travel costs either ofc.

On second thought, I might raise it 1 point just for being B2P and having a cashshop that I have been able to ignore so far (bought bank expansions by buying gems with ingame coin, so ppl keep buying gems pls to keep their prices low :p).

Gave it an 8. There are some areas they could improve on but it's nothing that would turn me away. I haven't been this hooked on an MMO since I started Warcraft years ago.
