I must say there is NO MMORPG that has come close to the game experiance SWG gave me.
And from what I read and viewed about GW2 while certain aspects of the game do make me curious. GW2 still hasn't shown me the things I truly miss since 2005.
But I am still sure one day I might get GW2 and might even enjoy it. But I am also sure it will not match up to my awesome game experiance with SWG, GW2 is just missing to much for me. Still doesn't make me say it's a bad game as said I might enjoy it as a game......
vanilla AoC - played it for 8 months from release in a guild with about 45 active players during the entire time. Vanilla AoC had IMO the best melee combat system out of any mmo released to date.
aion - played it for about 6 months in a very active guild, had a blast, was a very fun game.
rift - loved it
prior to 2005 - gen 1 games still own anything released in the last 8 years - UO, eq1,AC, DAoC
Can't understand why people like that rift. When I tried the trial it felt like WoW on rails, which is a really bad thing. It must be a late bloomer. Maybe that's why I like GW2 so much. I get so much enjoyment from the first to last moment and I don't have to wait for the game to "come into its own."
I dont get all the Rift love either....Definitely stole the majority of their game from WoW and WAR.

This, to me, is a huge endorsement for GW2. Surprised I haven't heard of this til now. I haven't sought any info about GW2 because I suspect it is a loby game; and really not an MMO at all.
Luckily, i don't need you to like me to enjoy video games. -nariusseldon. In F2P I think it's more a case of the game's trying to play the player's. -laserit

Just watch a gameplay video of it or something, at least. Of course it's an MMO.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
I personally think GW2 is the best MMO I've ever played. Of course, that's just my opinion. I know there are plenty of others out there who don't share that opinion.
Not really sure what this poll proves other than some people think GW2 is the best and others don't.
You want me to pay to play a game I already paid for???
WAR and SWTOR were massive failures trying to copycat one of the best MMO's ever created.
Fixed this for you.
You not liking a MMORPG doesn't make it bad. WoW is the most successful MMO of all times for now, and there are many good reasons why so many players enjoy(ed) that game. And commercially, it's definitely still the best.
A game which maintained millions of subscribers for 8 years is definitely one of the best games ever, and that would be true even if I don't like the game.
Sadly, the above mentionned clones completely failed where WoW succeeded.
So what? If WOW never had been released the MMO market would still consist of quality games. I take DAOC quality with 200k players over WOW (aka hello kitty online) with 10-15 million players. WOW made cartoon graphics and lackluster combat the norm and standard of MMO's, companys saw the big $$$ signs and started trying to mimic it.
GW2 has alot of the old school gamers/creators of DAOC in their team, I will be playing this game for a long long time. At last a game that requires situational awareness and REAL skill to succeed in pvp. It's like DAOC with a great combat mechanic. Loving it.

GW1 was lobby based, and not called an MMO even by the devs. GW2 is a full MMO.
Better is such a subjective word. I do know that I amassed 400 hours on Guild Wars before I had ever started feeling bored. Guild Wars had so much more replayability, a far more interesting story, and a much higher quality PvP system. Guild Wars 2 for me is reduced to farming dungeons every night at 5:00pm.
Gw2 definetly isn't a lobby game, like gw1, wow, swtor and tsw are.
You won't be stood in a city spamming lfg. There's plenty of outdoor pve and pvp content. That's my favourite thing about gw2 compared to other recent themeparks, it hasn't got an instance instance instance endgame.

You might be stretching the definition of lobby game.

GW2 isn't the best even though I rated it a 10/10. I think they are the best out of 2011-2012 releases though but not the best since 2005 till today. My sig says it all, I havent seen any mmo to beat my best just yet.

Um... GW2 isn't that great... yes, there are a couple games better then GW2. Plus it is basically an opinion question. Anyways, moving on since this seems to be a GW2 fanboii thread... /facepalm

Why? What did fundamentally change since Freemium?
Epic quests, world design and book authenticity hasn't really suffered. They introduced more grind. But they already had this for 2 years into Moria... It was even worse back then with no small-scale possibility to gain end-game gear.
And they did it, because people DEMANDED it. People were complaining left and right during SoA and Helegrod raids that there was not enough endgame content to burn through. So they introduced guilds, rep-grind and gated content. Again, yeeears before Freemium.
So for me, it hasn't changed a bit. I sitll pay my 15 bucks a month and get everything... even more, mothly points bought me Riders of Rohan right off the bat.

Yeah design changed as well, but you're right it was changins since Moria, but they just enormously pushed it with f2p.
Also I could not stand cash shop ruining my immersion. Not to mention things like dools with shop clothes.
It was not an money issue I had ~7000 TP when I left, most of which I got from bonus for long-term players when going f2p.
Anyway that's not a topic for Lotro. This game convinced me I will never even look at freemium / f2p mmorpg again.

Games better then GW2 since 2005: Atlantica Online, Fallen Earth, The Secret World, TOR, Tera, Rift, Aion, Lunia, DF
UO will always be the best though, I played from beta till trammel/fel split, quit right away from that point on.

In my opinion GW2 is alot better for me then SWTOR, Rift, Aion, Lotro etc.
Yust as with any game you have people who like it and people who dont, as easy as that.

PvP wise, Darkfall.
PvE/exploration/challenge/class/crafting wise, Vanguard.

I played it, and I will disagree with you. There was soooo much promise there, though.

You were playing it wrong
The poll is missing the option "gw2 is not a mmorpg".
But there are plenty proper mmorpgs with char progression and roles that are better.
Just the same as gw1
Haha I see what you were doing there! (traditional GW2 fanboii response) XD
