When will this unnecessary game bashing stop?

Please excuse and forgive this post if you disagree or I get my facts wrong. I am curious why most people constantly come on this site to troll and bash games that don't spell out doom and gloom for them or their gameplay experience?

Why must people jump up and immediately point fingers and foam spit out of their mouths if they don't like Guild Wars 2? Why get so angry if Turbine has layoffs? Why say a game is dead when there is a server merge? Why not just sit back and think for a moment?

I genuinly believe MMO's thrive on the success of others if they have the resourcefulness and cunning to adapt, which I believe a fair number do.

Do you think Rift would go out of its way to become more than just a themepark if it had no competition on the market? Do you think WoW would have adopted certain features of its competition over the years, despite being on top? What about LOTRO with RoR, the tagging system seems strangely similar to the system in GW2, doesn't it? It is also being called one of the best expansions in terms of improvements in gameplay for LOTRO. So you see competition improves games. Its healthy and its positive. So to the people that come here regularly and say things like "oh I hope x game dies because y game will kill it LOLOLOL", well I see this, I bloody well hope not. I may not be sold on GW2 yet but I am confident in the new features I will introduce, I am confident that some of these features might get into the heads of other developers and be expanded on or tweaked.

What I hope people realize I'm trying to say is other MMO's shouldn't be looked at as enemies, something to be threatened and scared by to the extent that there is much time spent raging at the keyboard about how it sucks and nobody should play it. Why not look at it simply as a positive contribution towards this genre, no matter how small? Even if it is another cookie cutter theme park that can at first glance be passed off as a clone with no contribution towards the genre, how about simply looking at it as a positive thing? Plenty of theme park clones on the market would influence developers of new projects to steer away from that gameplay, to try something new.

Again, if my facts are wrong forgive me. However, I genuinly believe that all of this raging and trolls vs fan(atic)s is really quite meaningless.

We're bashing the games because we are not the ones making them.  Deep down we all wish we could design the game and we are all sure we'd do a better job.  I know I would.

If you keep similar attitude towards these so called 'troll posts' the problem will solve itself.

I used to be a member of this FFXIV fan site before i started posting here. That was the most obnoxious place with fans hi fiving each other on daily basis. I like these forums because it is an open forum where people can post positive and negative views without worrying about biased moderators.

I know you snapped and made this topic because people have negative stuff to say about GW2 but as long as they are not attacking anyone personaly and keeping their posts limuted to discussion of games i don't see why they shouldn't be allowed to have their say.

I bash games when it's fans bash mine. It's a mental disorder I have - one bad turn deserves another, in my case, I return the "favour" tenfold. Adopted that philosophy after being ganked in STV in Vanilla WoW.

I too wonder why there seems to be a lot of negativity about MMOs. I guess it is easier to point out faults than what is positive about a game.

    1) There would be nothing else to talk on this site

    2) People like the sounds of their own voices ( so to speak)

    3) People are bored and wish to stir up trouble just to see what happens

    4) Some people genuinely believe they are smarter and better than others

Im sure there is more..but im getting bored with this already.  Im pretty sure you already know the awnser to your question. You are just currently a #2 IMO..of course so am I.

Yeah maybe I did snap a little and I'm fed up with the hate threads on this site but its not actually about GW2. I'm not even a large fan of the game, I bought it and barely played. My irritation comes from people insulting games and saying how much a game is going to die for no real solid reason.

Not until Frodo tosses that blasted ring into Mount Doom.  Or when the internet shuts down, whichever comes first.

If in 1982 we played with the current mentality, we would have burned down all the pac man games since the red ghost was clearly OP. Instead we just got better at the game.

A lot of it boils down to highschool girly talk in the vein of "look at what SHE'S wearing, that is SO last tuesday". That's basically been the trend since Warhammer Online and explains all the MMO hopping.

MMOs just became another fashion accessory (better not get left behind!), a status symbol (oh, you play that? i got done with that like 2 years ago).

No different than ANYTHING ELSE in the HISTORY OF EVERYTHING.

Lack of talent has never stopped any one from making "music".

What you deem as unnecessary will be some one elses necessary. Opinions are a born trait. You cant just ditch them . You can tame them though. But then what would be the fun of coming to this site?

Criticizing isn't contingent on the ability to physically create something.

Else 99% of movie, book, food and other critics would be out of a job. Roger Ebert isn't a director, he can't make movies.

Yes people can make a living out of such journalism. However journalists at least have to be informed and make structured arguments. My concern here is there are many arguments on this website that don't do that. It is merely childish bashing. Think of the discussions this site could have if only it was positive criticism, acknowledging its faults but also its strengths and what can be learned from the game. Why can't there be plenty to appreciate and admire about games you don't even enjoy playing?

Funny how you subconciously equate playing a MMO product with sports. Putting aside your inability to not take things literally, there's millions upon millions of people who bash one sport and favor another. Glad to see you don't fixate on soccer, but MMOs instead, I guess?

Doesn't detract from my point in the slightest.

Games became fashionable when PSX brought it to the masses. There's even people sporting joypads as jewelry, but that's a bit of an extreme.

There's a boatload of conspiracy theory ideas active on these forums that assume as much. They're not likely, but not impossible either.

If you know you would then where is your title?  Where is your ground-breaking "MMO changing" title that is all the rage and what everyone is talking about? Yeah, not seeing it

People bash every game. The criteria for bashing a game is quite simple, if you don't happen to play it, it is shit and everyone who plays it is a moron.

If you want to see some good old fashioned lunatic style bashing, take a look at some of the anti WoW/EVE/Darkfall posts. The anti GW2 stuff looks like childs play in comparison.

Well its a good point. I come here to learn about new MMO's and keep up to date. It is mainly a news site after all. I do also come here for player reviews of games and discussions concerning games. By discussions I don't mean hate threads and flame wars by the way. Just interesting, informed opinions. I keep my eyes on multiple games out of interest. I suppose I could go to each sites forums individually but that is much more time consuming and possibly more bias.

As long as we pay for the game, I think we're entitled to bash them.

In most cases, the bashing is justified.

People think that they know what is best and whine and complain when something comes out that doesn't cater to them. Plain and simple - very 'It's all about ME!' orientation. That and also people don't understand the time and work involved in producing games - it seems like they feel these game companies shold snap their fingers and things change.

Bashing is NEVER justified - PERIOD. Constructive criticism, yes - bashing no.

All games are made by human design, so we have to deal with that foible.
