Hey guys, it's Creslin. Elikal posted a comment on my YouTube account asking why I left, which made me check on these forums and I noticed that a bunch of other people were wondering as well. So anyway...
There are basically two reasons why I decided to delete my account.
First and foremost...I didn't like how much time I spent on these forums. Whenever I sat down to do something productive, it was all too tempting to hop on these forums "just to check" and then inevitably involve myself in some silly argument that would occupy me for like 2 hours lol. This had really made me comtemplate just deleting my account to help stop me from coming back for a while...kind of like a symbolic ripping off a band-aid I guess. If I continue to visit the forums too frequently, I will be deleting this one as well haha .
Second, I didn't really like what most of the threads on these forums had become, and how I had become one of the main participants in what I didn't really like. What I mean by this is that I used to come on these forums and actually post fairly thoughtful things that I found interesting. And then I would have fun discussions with everyone about them.
But now...everything just seems to be one circular argument after another. I can't tell you how many times I have argued that GW2 is social or that it's a good game, or whatever. These arguments never go anywhere, and the sad thing is, that most of these arguments are based on simple misunderstandings...and I often even know this, but decide to argue anyway just to kill time. For example, in the huge antisocial debate I had with grimal, I knew that he probably felt the game was antisocial because of his particular experience on playstyle, but I didn't really want to just ask him that and try to understand because that would have resulted in resolution and I wouldn't have had a fun argument to kill 2 hours with.
Eventually, I started to see a parallel between arguments on these forums and arguments in politics. What I mean by this is that, much like politicians, it seems like I (and we in many cases) stopped caring about why we are arguing, and really only care about winning. Many of us will go through a crazy amount of research just to prove the other person wrong, like digging through their post history, or spending an hour googling to find some obscure dev post made in the distant past.
And since I disdain politics with a passion, I started to hate how we argued on this site. At one point, I just decided to poke fun at everyone's arguments with meme pictures, maybe to lighten up the mood or something. But I wound up getting banned for posting a "beating a dead horse" picture in response to a guy who had basically made the exact same argument for like 3 pages. This was kind of the straw that broke the camel's back, because it gave me the impression that the status quo was basically what was desired around here, even by the moderators. So I decided that the only way out of it, was basically to just walk away.
Anyways...I did actually like some of the discussions we had here, so I don't want to give the impression that it was all negative for me. I will still try to check in every now and then...but I'm going to try to spend a lot less time here. Thanks for the memories all!
i very much know what you mean and can relate... gl and hit me up in game sometime:)

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. The truth may be puzzling. It may take some work to grapple with. It may be counterintuitive. It may contradict deeply held prejudices. It may not be consonant with what we desperately want to be true. But our preferences do not determine what's true.

Originally posted by Aerowyn special event thing would be good and remember them talking about stuff liek this although honestly GW2 is a MUCH more fun game IMHO with the zones not being overcrowded.. DEs are more fun and challenging and actually get to see many fail with less people.. oversaturation of the events is what makes most of them not very much fun imho.. adding couple more zones in the 70-80 ranges should help out overcrowding in Orr though on top of some special events around the world.... from reading the about next content patch seems like there will be some events leading upto the patch
I totally agree here, the release overcrowding was too much. It's way more fun to level alts now that each event isn't zerged.
Yeah. It is really nice. Stuff fails. You don't win everything. And when you do, you've accomplished something.
The other day I killed the Bone Ship at that fort in north Spark Fly Fen by myself. It's not the first time I've done that event, being a US player on a European server when I play at night during a 'work night' there just aren't a lot of people on. So, anyway, I figured how to solo the event (that is, kill the ship and save the fort with no help and no support from another human or pet). I was pretty pleased with myself to find the solution in an event that is built to win with a team.
Still haven't figured out how to solo the equivalent event in the Straights of Devistation. There's only the one trebuchet and I just can't get the ship HP down fast enough in the time I have.
I also figured out how to kill the risen Meglodon in Spark Fly Fen and got it down to half-points before I let it go because it would have been a cheeze victory... (It was a bit of an exploit -- I lured it into shallow water where it couldn't get me, but I could shoot it...)
