Here we go with the game must have full loot free for all PvP crap.
You guys already HAVE that game, it is called Darkfall. And I say this coming from the very first days of the Rallos Zek server and I had a BLAST with the PvP back then. Not every sandbox has to have PvP, let them come up with what they come up with.
That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

Personally I think they will do some sort of geographical divide between pvp and pve. E.g. have pve provinces, then have wild lands where ffa pvp takes place and drop rates / xp are slightly higher.
Nah if anything he will separate the servers, Smed may be an EVE fan but that doesn't mean he is going to change the EQ experience into a EQN EVE experience lol.
I'll place any bet you like that PVP will take second place to PVE and RP.
If by when Smedley says EQNext will be the largest sandbox, he means the actual world then there may not be more than one server.
Lol, a hybrid mmo doesn't have to have one server, save yourself disappointment and don't take Smed definition of sandbox as literal.
A true sandbox game is Wurm Online and A Tail In The Desert, i would start thinking hybrid if i was you.

I really wouldn't sweat it, i'll bet my yearly income that the PVP ffa full loot crowd are in for a shock lol.

Agreed...It's either that or risk alienating over half of your core audience...It makes no sense to turn a franchise like EQ, with it's fan base, into a PvP dominated game...For a project this big that would be suicidal...
I am okay with PvE servers coexisting with PvP but wonder how they really get a foothold on branding themselves with "emergent gameplay" and sandbox innovation without PvP in the game...
The other game where I liked how the faction PvP played out was DC Universe Online. You really get a sense of being on a team and the "us VS them" feeling.
But again, if they really want to go sandbox and break free of the conventional MMO mold, I see the full-world PvP as part of that. It might mean alienating some of the traditional playerbase to get a foothold in new markets.
I guess we'll see.
It's really a non-issue to people who don't want/like pvp.
If you take away a component that no one cares about, no one will miss it. I imagine they can make a pve version of "us vs them". The "them" being pve opponents.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
One thing we know for sure, much to the dismay of the bluebies, is this game comes standard with world shaping. That means building and destruction.
That means PvP.
It may be PvP with safe zones on normal servers. It might even be without looting or with level limitations, but one way or another you might as well get ready for a healthy dose of pvp if you plan on playing EQ Next.
I'm all for 100% open PvP if it were possible that the entire server consisted of hardcore roleplayers. I'm find with a Highwayman killing me and taking my stuff, though likely if he was roleplaying he would offer me the chance to surrender my items first and spare my life.
But unfortunately, you're more likely to just get jackasses "ROFLMAO I pwned you n000b" ganking people for no reason. That doesn't add to my immersion.

I'm sorry, I disagree. You can build and shape a world without destruction or PvP.

I'm not saying you can't, but destruction is a feature already said to be in the game, thus implying there will be pvp.

Excuse me if I'm a bit blunt, but either you are thick or just plain didn't read the post you quoted. I believe it to be the former of the two.
Environmental destruction in no way shape or form implies PvP. Just because I can light a forest on fire does NOT mean that doing so will cause other players or their property to light on fire with it.

An RP PvP server would be quite awesome, but only time will tell if it will be included.
l love the situation you presented in the first paragraph, but the second is more like the community in mmorpgs that you find these days.

Explain how I am wrong IF you can, please.
You may not have read what Smed has said about the EQ Next world, but he said the game will be sandbox and almost everything you see will be destructible.
Though you can have sandbox without pvp, you are hard pressed to destroy what other people have built without it.
As a whole most games claiming to be "Sandbox" that only had open world PvP has failed in a big way so far. So here's hoping they know to release PvP servers and PvE servers that have actual sandbox elements within them.
Due to frequent travel in my youth, English isn't something I consider my primary language (and thus I obtained quirky ways of writing). German and French were always easier for me despite my family being U.S. citizens for over a century. Spanish I learned as a requirement in school, Japanese and Korean I acquired for my youthful desire of anime and gaming (and also work now). I only debate in English to help me work with it (and limit things). In addition, I'm not smart enough to remain fluent in everything and typically need exposure to get in the groove of things again if I haven't heard it in a while. If you understand Mandarin, I know a little, but it has actually been a challenge and could use some help.
Also, I thoroughly enjoy debates and have accounts on over a dozen sites for this. If you wish to engage in such, please put effort in a post and provide sources -- I will then do the same with what I already wrote (if I didn't) as well as with my responses to your own. Expanding my information on a subject makes my stance either change or strengthen the next time I speak of it or write a thesis. Allow me to thank you sincerely for your time.

Ah you dodged the direct question. You might as well have agreed with me, for dodging it shows you realize your comment to be incorrect.
I do infact keep up on everything EQN related, and I also know that there is a reason Smedly said 'nearly everything' and not "every single thing." He could have stated that even player houses won't be safe, but he did not, so what you are talking about is pure speculation. Stick to the facts.
Sticking to only what was said, and not what COULD have been implied, you will be able to destroy almost everything in this sandbox SoE is creating.
I don't pretend to know to what extent that means, unlike you. I also do not pretend to know what he meant when he stated that this would be the biggest sandbox ever made. He never went on to detail what he feels a sandbox is and what elements of that EQN will have.
You seem to like posting opinions as facts; not a good practice if you ask me, but that's my opinion.

I think the word "fear" is a bit ridiculous...
Let's say you're at work and you have an important business call...During this call a 5 year old child runs into your office and hangs up on your client...You call back...The kid comes running in again and does the same thing...You go to move to another office the kid follows you, all the while giggling hysterically, and ready to ruin your day...Now...Do you fear this kid?...Um...No...Do you want to get as far away from this brat and go about your business? Sure you do...Or better yet lets find a place where the kid can play with other kids just like him completely separate from your office space...But fear?...It's not fear...Believe me...
I've been in huge PvE Guilds for almost a decade now and just about everyone in the Guild PvP's...At least on occasion...What most PvE players dislike is the completely uncontrollable element unleashed with a 100% open world PvP rule-set...The guaranteed unleashing of (some not all) players who's sole purpose is to make someone else's game experience miserable. That is what comes with 100% open world PvP, and that is simply something traditional RP and PvE gamers want nothing to do with no matter what kind of rule-set is incorporated...
I understand your point...And I agree with it...But again it has nothing to do with fear...If there is an emotion you want to tab it's far closer to anger, hatred, irritation, pity, etc...

Sounds like you can't handle pvp. Plenty of people experience this same kind of "harrassment" you explained while pvping, but they don't get upset and demand that developers change the game or ban other players. They just deal with it or log off.
If you find yourself playing a video game and you're having legitimate feelings of anger, hatred, pity, etc, then you should stop playing and get to the real reason why you're so upset.

Haha!!! Right...I can handle anything just fine there big-guy...Don't worry about me...I'll be just fine...
The only option is to go with a SWG-type system of optional PvP. Open pvp WILL drop this game to low-pop fringe status, there is no if, ands, or buts about it. The metagamers will drive this game into the ground if open pvp is allowed.
Three factions: Good, Neutral, Evil
Three statuses: Unaligned (Pure PvE), Covert, Overt
Simple, effective, and broad.
And if the devs were smart, they would include a Full FFA full-loot server just for the hardcores (maybe even permadeath).

It's A Tail In The Desert - Wurm Online., these are true sandbox mmo's

Again, really think you are going to be disappointed, better to stick with Age Of Wushu for your player bounty kicks.

I'm fine.
I know that some get worried about FFA worlds. For them a strong bounty/crime/punishment system will be needed.
First; exactly how can there be a negative chance of something happening?
Second; everyone that thinks that there WON'T be a server or two with full open world PvP obviously never played an EQ title.
Not like darkfall, somewhere between Darkfall and Wushu.
