First off, I've been playing MMO's since the day Ultima Online came out. I've messed with them all.
A buddy of mine sent me a Scroll of Resurrection and asked me to come back to play. I got to level 5 within 20-30 minutes and was about to go do the boss in the Dwarven starting zone when two players surrounded me. One was spamming scallywag and hopping around me, I quickly ignored him, the other runs up and says "Hey Faggot! followed by my character name.
This is the main reason I left in the first place quite a few years back, I can't believe that it's actually gotten worse!
I'm a guy in my mid 40's and I can't see how anybody could actually pay 15 bucks a month to be abused by players like this.
I'm going back to EQ1, EQ2 and Vanguard. Fuck WoW!
That's weird, i've never ran into anything that blatant but ya the MMO communities in general are cesspools nowadays. Even if the people were nice WoW is not worth playing right now nor is any MMO. F2P made EQ1 a single player game as everyone just boxes every class they need and fills any gaps with mercs. EQ2 is just a poorly programmed WoW nowadays and have fun soloing every level to max. Vanguard is still unplayably buggy so not even an option imo.
We're in a drought, I hope you guys have a Xbox or PS3.
Well, according to the OP's post history, "WoW is the Walmart of MMO's." Since that is what he believes, then he should have also expected to find the same type of people in WoW as he would find in a Walmart...
It's pretty clear that we are being trolled by a hater. His little "story" is utterly bogus.
People are going to behave like this in MMO's because mmo's stopped being a niche thing and started being a common fad. Common people are a miserable and unhappy sort and it has a lot more to do with other parts of life than just MMO's. If any of these people in this thread are serious about building communities of empathy then they probably need to shut their computers off and go start at the source, society, not the symptom (blowing off steam in an anonymous environment). Bad marriages, bad economy, crap jobs, government scams, bad laws, etc. etc. etc..
As long as MMO's and Gaming is a fad, and as long as society is an angry crap hole, then MMO communities are going to be similar.

If that's your worst experience in an MMO, you've had it it good over the years. I've been playing them since 1991 with Neverwinter Nights, and I've had a million things worse than that happen to me lol.

Not sure if I'm more sad because two morons have nothing better to do than spam someone, or because someone is actually letting that ruin their game experience instead of using the /ignore function and being above them as a mature person.
Either way, it's sad, very sad.
and it happen's to every mmo outhere so you are not safe from it even on eq1 or 2 or vanguard, oh perhaps you are cause there is lees players to interact, so if you are lucky and dodge as you go maybe you are saved anyone talking to you.
I have had some really weird sh*t happen to me in WoW. People are strange. It doesn't keep me from enjoying the game. Amazingly enough some of the worst behavior I have ever seen wasn't in WoW. It was in SWG. Pre-cu and years after the NGE the game seemed to attract a lot of people that had some serious issues. Some people use a MMORPG as a place to dump all of their emotional baggage on to other people. It happens. Ignore and move on.
WoW-The game world is pretty cool, the community isn't....With the exception of maybe Runescape and Eve, WoW has the worst community....You can jsut sit in Orgrimmar for 10 minutes and know that.

Um, Okay...
It IS the Walmart of MMO's, but you know, sometimes you just HAVE to go to Walmart...

I have had a look at his whole history, not just knee jerk reactions at something you dont like to read, and he is not a troll. wheras many attacking OP here are most definately trolling (or just being anti social). Attacking Op is exactly the kind of behaviour that is not wanted in mmorg communities i.e attack//mistrust/abuse/assume worst to feed own arguements. Even if he was trolling in this post, the correct response is to ignore the troll and take the point as a theoretical scenario or ignore - but many are incapable or even understand how to do such a thing it seems.
rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar
The OP makes a post advising he had a bad experience and over reacts a little. He is then atttacked by people in this thread- This thread is a snapshot of the mmorg culture as it stands today. No empathy, just foul and bad tempered with weak justifications about why the OP deserves foul and bad tempered responses.
Why react this way? I would guess for the same reason people are obnoxious in mmorgs - boredom in stale environments.
It is all very well and good to jump to the OP's defence and it is poor that anyone has a bad experience when playing a game, but if you read the OP's initial post you can see why some reactions here have been the way they are.
First - He was given a scroll of resurrection, so he had played the game before with a full account, so he already knew the game, it's players and the environment
Second - It is just two idiots throwing stupid comments, just ignore them and move on
Third - He judges that the whole game is now worse than before (so he thought it was bad already) because of an encounter with two people, probably a couple of friends pissing about, annoying yes, but hardly a reflection of the whole community
Fourth - After pointing out the immaturity of the guys who annoyed him, he then goes on to basically call anyone who subs to this self abusers and finished with the brilliantly mature "fuck WOW!"
Fifth - Title is a little misleading because it seems everything was fine up until the last few seconds/minutes that he had the poor encounter, so it was actually the worst 30 seconds - 2 minutes of MMO playing (depending how long her put up with them i guess)?!?
Sixth - Probably the most important fact, he has judged the whole WOW community to be like this after 20-30 minutes of play?!? I know there is a token mention in a later post that he raised another char on another server and had a better time of it, but that isn't mentioned in the initial tirade now is it?
Taken all together, you can probably see why people are not exactly fetching the kleenex and patting his sad hunched shoulders and bucking him up with reassuring comments.
It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.

Use of hyperbole, mock rage, and exaggeration of relatively minor issues does not come across as a well thought out discussion topic.
Pbbbt....what am I saying, SOP around here.
Seriously, OP had some really bad luck to run into a couple like that, can't say it's ever happened to me despite over 11 years of MMO playing.
Best to shrug it off and play the game if you enjoy it, if not, move on to one that you do.

No wonder, though there are clearly cesspool tiers since nothing really compares to the amount of trollkids in League of Legends.
