You will most likely miss out on some great games my friend...F2P is only the way to sub-par games...I know f2p sounds great but nothing in this world is free and you will spend money or you will end up quitting the game because you will see that f2p doesn't mean what you think...
Yea I'd pay the sub but I wouldnt be happy about it. Lets put it like this: If a game I am following and I deem I like (ESO) based on all the knowns then I am inclined to play regardless of business model but if a game I do not follow (in this case say Wildstar) but only have passing interest in announces it as a Subscription game I will never look at it.
Note to Devs *do not announce business models early* lol
Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!
Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!
Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!
Probally not, I won't even touch the game unless I get into a beta or some form of trial for it, been burned by too many shit mmo's lately that I won't risk another without trying it first. A beta gives me a rough idea of what the game will be like and if I'd like it. I already dislike how races are locked to factions that fact alone is a major detterant to me considering buying it, it has to change, I'd rather it be you can pick what race then pick your faction without them being locked to it. That and the fact I fully expect it to be just another wow clone with a newish battle system, kinda like Tera, after the combat got old you relize the game offers nothing.

not pre-ordering anymore. not paying anything anymore, until at least a month goes by and see the current state of the game. after that i can hold a monthly fee, if i think that the game deserves it.
enough with milking cows. at least for me
Best to wait 3 months. First month some people may not like it then are like "Well maybe i'll sub a month past the included month to see if it gets better). By the 3rd or 4th month you can generally tell how its going to be. Honestly the best mmorpg out there right now is probally FF11, because it doesn't hold your hand like every other mmo since wow, and you actually feel a sense of accomplishment when you get stuff done, some stuff in the game takes a while. MMO's these days just don't give me personally that sense of accomplishment because everything is way to damn easy/soloable, making mmo's too soloable is what is ruining them. Most mmo's these days are bascally a single player game with a glorified irc chatroom, till you hit level cap after 2 days. Also in ff11 your rep matters since you can play all jobs on the one character, and the time some things take you don't wanna make an alt (is no reason to unless you wanted a crafter alt since you can only max 1 craft skill per char). People in FF11 tend to be way less of a bunch of asshats compared to say WoW where they can just make an alt and get back at lv cap in 2 days. Not that FF11 doesn't have its share of jerks, every game does.
I dunno I just haven't played any decent mmo's at all recently, all are basecally the same copy and pasted crap from wow over and over with 0 variation. Though I do admit, although Rift is a wow clone, it actually does quite a few things diffrently enough to make it not feel like a carbon copy of it. Which is more than I can say for all the other clones.

Also what made you think this is a pro-f2p thread? My poll and first post are completely objective.
True, but most of those p2p games end up going freemium within 6 months because they just don't got enough intersting stuff to actually hold subs. How wow does it is beyond me, I find wow personally to be about as fun as watching dog shit ferment on the grass. I had wow at release and loved it, but then every damn mmo that came out has bascally copied wow exactly or close enough to it, that I now cannot stand it anymore.

First off, there are 3, potentially 4, big titles this year that will more than likely be going p2p: FF14, Wildstar, TESO and ArcheAge if it releases in 2013. FF14 and Wildstar are 100% p2p at this point. We know Trion has had success with p2p already. Zenimax would be foolish to not go p2p. So the end is no where near so don't say things that are so far from the truth it is hilarious.
The main reason recent games that started p2p and have had to drop to f2p is because the devs put out very poor products. Plain and simple. People get the scent of free stuff and then demand it 24/7. Look at the awful state the United States is in as a perfect RL example of this...no one wants to work for shit. Instead they want everything handed to them. 15-30 bucks a month to play a couple MMOs is peanuts even if you have a minmum wage job.
I dont know because i expect it to be generic as most mmos that have come out since early 2000...I hope the PvE is as good and immersive as the single player games. Cuz these days I feel like single player rpgs have more longevity than mmos have for me...for instance in fallout new vegas I am about 70 hours in and i havent even gotten to vegas yet. I think the problem withh mmos are is that they focus too much into end game content than the whole game experience from lvl 1...why cant they make all content from level 1 to max like its end game?
The only thing I would rather see happen, is for this to be B2P like GW2 (not endorsing the boring game, just the pay model). If that isn't going to happen, then I would rather have P2P then P2W... err.. I mean F2P : P .
I had some interest in this game, but I would vote no. Regarless of the game, I dont like how the subscription model works for me. It makes me feel compelled to play more often then I would normaly to justify it, and in general I cannot come and go as I please. And this is from a generally hardcore gamers point of view. It also leads to design elements that tend to waste my time, so that they can get another month out of me.
You can argue that p2p gets better or longer development and better maintained which may very well be valid. But at this point in my life I just dont like subscribing to anything, tv, phone, whatever, and I dont appreciate my charicters (aka time invested) being held hostage to that.
I would add that in my opinion in this game environment and this economy, any game that goes back to a sub model just signed its own death sentence. I dont think it will ever come back like it was for better or worse.
Hmm big maybe. Honestly initial reviews always tend to be escewed. Look at SWTOR, it got a lot of big reviews *coughs and looks at MMORPG* and it didn't turn out to be that great and was shrugged off pretty quickly.
It really depends if a game catches my eye and if others I know are playing it. Thats typically the only time I jump in and try something day one.
Sub amount, as long as it is not $100 a month or something has no bearing on if I will play something. If I try ESO out, and I like it I will pay the $15 no problem. So I couldn't answer the poll, because I have not tried it. I will have to try it, before I buy it, it has too many questions about the UI/controls for me....Along with other things.

I'm sure that I will miss out on some great games, and F2P is of little interest to me. I only want to play B2P games, where I pay my cost up front and suppliment the games life with cash shop purchases and expansions. It's not about spending the money, rather I don't like the feeling that I have to spend the money or everything I've done in the game just goes away. So if the subscription was $1 each month, I still would have no interest in the game.
All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.
I prefer games made with a subscription model in mind. I like the general design philosophy that goes with it over those of Freemium or Free to Play games. I no longer pre-purchase games unless I get into beta and really like it, otherwise I wait and see.
B2P is nice, but then you have people not interested in playing in game, causing a mess. Also, they have to monitize some how, if its not a sub its going to be a cash shop or DLC or both. This is unpredictible, and can end up being way more than a P2P sub.
F2P is nice for a quick in and out...but the heart of the game must revolve around getting people to spend and spend big. Why? Well most dont pay a dime, so those who do need to get hit hard in the wallet. This creates a game that (in the end) must revolve on squeezing the shit out of that 10%'s wallet...again more expensive than a p2p sub...but the good thing is if you dont like the game after a week you can leave with no loss.
In the end, P2P is the most straight forward payment model. I know exactly what the game costs, everyone pays the same. I know theres not going to one day fiull the cash shop with game breaking items. When people are no longer interested in playing they leave, which imo, makes the community a lot better in the long run (launch is always bad with community, and that highlights getting those not interested out of the game)
If this game goes free, or B2P, ill probably wait on it. If its free...not even sure ill bother, been around that block too many times. My guess is its either going to be P2P or B2P with pay per content and a cash shop. B2P games imo work best when they are games i can come back to later and jump right in. Getting re-aquainted with a deep mmorpg isnt as easy for me, typically involves me rolling an alt (even of the same class as my main) and trying to get back into the groove...basically its rare i return to a mmorpg and play...so B2P has no value to me as something i can just waltz into months or a year after leaving.
P2P is fine, its if its going to be fun enough for me to hang around is what matters. Never had a problem with P2P being a factor in if I would play a game or not, its all up to the game to earn it.
Not sure what the big fuss is over games being F2P, I can't stand them or cash shops for that matter, if the game is good and I like it I will play it, if it sucks I'm not going to play it even if its free. I know I will not play ESO if it launches F2P though and if it launches B2P with cash shops I will probably wait to purchase it, which I should have done with GW2.
A bit off topic but in response to those people who want p2p without a cash shop. I doubt many games from here on will not have a cash shop regardless of their payment model. At this point it is just to appetizing for publishers and devs. So to think that p2p means no cash shop, remains to be seen and is in no way as certian as you may think it is. If i was to bet, I would bet that ESO has a cash shop. Not condoning it, just the reality of modern MMO's (and single player games, but thats another story).

Yes, I will buy and play for $15 a month. I prefer subscription based games. You get nickeled and dimmed to death in the "free" 2 play games.
at this point everything I have read about this game makes me want to play it. Even if it ism rap they have my initial purchase.
