Longevity of Guild Wars

Judging from the BWE's, i'd say that to complete all of the main story would take up to 30 hours. But even then, you've got the PvP zones. Which to be honest, could be a game in itself :) The PvP will spure you on to go to explorable instanced zones to find parts for new craftable gear, to take back into pvp. Theres huge depth to finding the best combination of skills and tactics.

Don't expect a WoW-like experience with Guild wars. The two really are quite hard to compare side by side. I kinda see guild wars as more of a traditional RPG, with a story and narrative. Just completely online. Creating a role playing character and starting from scratch, or creating a pvp character and skipping straight to PvP are almost like two different components of the game. That later blend together if you've taken the RP path, of course :)

The game straddles the line between Neverwinter Nights and traditional mmorpgs. Many would consider this to be an mmorpg. I wouldn't. It's a new beast altogether :)

I've been to last year's E34E and December's WPE, as well as this month's BWE, so I can pretty sum up the game as very refreshing, less taxing on me as a player.

True that the game has that certain Diablo II feeling to it (even though I had never played DII before), but the instanced area gives me more freedom to explore and listen to the story of the game better. Since the instanced area also removes interference with other players (since the area is only reserved for you and your allies), I can better play the game at a much relaxed state, never worrying about kill-steal and farming problems.

I preferred this type of gameplay, because I can take time to play the game and not worried so much about levelling up to get uber weapons, while at the same time enjoy the surroundings (which, BTW, is pretty amazing...). So I can see that the game will have support of the general populace (i.e. your average high-school students/siblings/friends/schoolmates/classmates/colleagues people). So I guess this game will be popular for the first 3 ~ 4 months.

Longevity-wise, the constant update of expansion packs and the update management system in the game will probably help to either lengthen the popularity of the game, or keep people refreshed every six months of new updates. The fact that people can still play the game without the expacks feels like you're playing Magic: The Gathering game. Quite an interesting concept, so I will see if this concept works on the general gamer populace.

Overall, the game should be popular among the MMORPG community for the first 3 ~ 4 months. But I'm no a seer, nor a prophet, so I can't say much about longevity. But as a casual gamer, this game will stick up on my alley as one of the games I will definitely play as long as the game lasts.
