Did I get in before people started arguing about why the OP is wrong and why he can't possibly like the game that much because they think it is crap?
Stampede of consumer converts rushing to defend their individual brands?
Meh, of course it's bound to happen. Arguably, what this message board exists for.
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
This kind of discussions always happened since the first mmorpg. If we visit other forums in this site we will always see people defending, bashing , praising, hating the same game.
Tastes apart, one thing most of us don't consider is the route each one of us took until playing certain game. That detail should always be considered on the equation while reviewing games.
What I mean is: imagine that I started playing EQ, then DAoC, ATID, SWG, FFXI, EVE, WoW (and much more) and then Neverwinter. Most probably I wouldn't like Neverwinter as much as if I did a break from the mmorpg genre.
For the sake of clarification, if between Wow and Neverwinter I played Football Manager for 2 years, most probably Neverwinter will have a much more positive impact on me.
The route each one of us took until playing certain game also have a direct influence on the way we perceive it.
Quite one sided but yes, it does have good qualities. A flawed game but one I have a lot of fun with. I can nit pick this game all day really but in the end, I enjoy playing it despite its issues and it turned out to be far more entertaining then I thought it would turn out to be.
Its fun but has many flaws... Dont see me playing this for a long time, but it passes the time in a fun way, would never spend 1 cent on it tough. Many things could have been alot better, but for a free to play mmo its a nice inbetween mmo.
I play mmorpgs since 2000 starting with EQ and Neverwinter is the best so far:
took the best features from other mmorpgs, improved them and added really innovative and groundbreaking features.
If I had to buy this game and pay a monthly subscription I wouldn't be choked. I was taken by surprise by the quality of this game:
- combat is simply the best
- UI is very intuitive and polished
- classes are interesting and the soft trinity really nailed it
- the game feels alive, people always running around everywhere, lots of events going all the time
- animations and graphics are very good
- the Foundry is genius
BUT the most important, its really a FUN game to get into, grats Cryptic , the mmorpg genre really needed this!
I dont like the soft trinity. I rolled a cleric, im around level 15 maybe little more and joined a long dungeon, sorry can't remember the name it's was boring as hell once I realized it didnt mattered if i used my heals or not. They were not going to die. Probably a lot of people enjoy it but for me, as a healer it's not fun.
The game is great but the companies behind it will kill the game, the CS is by far by miles the worst I have ever had in anything in my 33 years of living.
