What if someone had internet access.. but then for whatever reason got cut off.. maybe the lines to their street melted, they could not afford it or whatever..
The xbox one would become useless if they didnt have access to the net after 30 days. I dont care too much as I dont play games on colnsoles but its utterly wrong for them to put this kind of system in place..
Saying that I am sure it wont be long before someone hacks the system
I had more power outages this past year than internet outages.....therefore had I owned a Xbox one, and PS4, they would have been unusable for just as long.
LOL really did you just say that.. I think you might be missing the entire point buy hey ho..
This thread makes me happier about xbox one actually. All of the solo gamers can go to PS and make PSN suck as it always has, and everyone left playing xbox one are going to be focused on online communities and game longevity as a result. If you don't like playing with others than keep your complaints to yourself and go play PS4 as you probably would have anyways even if xbox had discs.

Well the PS4 will have that online community as well.. you just wont be forced to always be a part of it.
I'm not a console fan at all, hardcore pc gamer, but I'm considering in buying one of the new models.
I don't mind beeing online all the time, since my pc requires that aswell,
but this comment + the fact that the camera is online all the time & some other really stupid things on microsoft's side, made me chose for the PS4 !!!!

It shouldn't make you happier, this will result in a lot less users on Xbox One, which will result in less exclusives and less games.
Xbox One won't launch in Japan at all and will not launch in Asia until a year later. That means no big titles from Japan.
If you want a lot of game choices, you need a console with a big userbase and for whatever reason, Microsoft is doing a good job making sure they have no users.
And this is one of the reasons why I don't like Microsoft, but we're stuck with them because they're the only ones that can produce a good operating system for the PC. Consoles however they're gonna fail, with that attitude people aren't going to give them their money, unless they have no self respect. Too many big companies that are about thinking because they have the money and the games they could take control of our privacy, well I think people need to stand up and say enough is enough. Stop giving them money if you don't like what they're doing.
The Internet auth. doesn't bother me. My 360 is on it 24x7. So no change. I actually like the fact games will be on the HD. No, it's not that I'm lazy, it is because I have an 8 year old, and eventually the disks end up everywhere, in other jackets, underneath the TV unit, etc. This way, with them all on the HD, I'm set, and just can say XBOX on, and off I go.
If anyone has read any of my posts regarding consoles and the future of gaming, then they know I'm first and foremost a PC gamer and have no love for either Microsoft or Sony (In fact, I may even lean towards Microsoft since I use Windows).
But some of the comments here such as "go to the kitchen" (even if a joke) or "pay for a wifi" are just ridiculous and missing the point completely if anyone does any sort of research on the matter at hand (and not just join a fanboy mentality or jump on the hate train).
The fact of the matter is that this is an inconvenience that should not exist in the first place. The point is that there is a more powerful, cheaper and less restrictive option on the market. There is no logical reason (at least no one has succeeded in convincing me yet) to pick a Xboxone over a PS4 unless it's your job to do so or you're just a loyal consumer of the Microsoft Brand.
Why should someone move out of the family room and into a kitchen to play games? Why should someone have to go through further expenses and problems (wifi have been a problem in the past, not sure how far they've advanced) for the sake of a inferior machine that costs more? What of those who simply use consoles as single player machines when their internet is down or maybe for the occassional RPG and the like?
The whole thing "if you can afford this, you can afford that" is nonsense. Heck, why don't we hire a butler to do it for us, then? Seriously, $500 and more expensive just to avoid making the thing a paperweight with restrictions that shouldn't be there in the first play. That Microsoft caved into and put in. This is beyond anti consumerist to the point I just quietly lose some respect for any of my colleagues who say they might get one over a PS4 or actually defend it (luckily only one has tried to defend it, but has since changed his tune after the conference and this combined).
Yes, it's getting a lot of flack that it may not deserve, but also a lot that it does deserve.
Due to frequent travel in my youth, English isn't something I consider my primary language (and thus I obtained quirky ways of writing). German and French were always easier for me despite my family being U.S. citizens for over a century. Spanish I learned as a requirement in school, Japanese and Korean I acquired for my youthful desire of anime and gaming (and also work now). I only debate in English to help me work with it (and limit things). In addition, I'm not smart enough to remain fluent in everything and typically need exposure to get in the groove of things again if I haven't heard it in a while. If you understand Mandarin, I know a little, but it has actually been a challenge and could use some help.
Also, I thoroughly enjoy debates and have accounts on over a dozen sites for this. If you wish to engage in such, please put effort in a post and provide sources -- I will then do the same with what I already wrote (if I didn't) as well as with my responses to your own. Expanding my information on a subject makes my stance either change or strengthen the next time I speak of it or write a thesis. Allow me to thank you sincerely for your time.

Microsoft seems to have a tendency to believe their own propaganda until the world actually hits them in the head with reality. The thing is, there are people cheering them on. Brand loyalty will carry them for awhile. I could see them actually releasing the Xbox One, watching it tank, and only then making some minor changes.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
I just quietly lose some respect for any of my colleagues who say they might get one over a PS4
Huh? Really. What if there are a bunch of Xbox One exclusives that you colleagues wants to play? Sheesh. I guess I'll lose your respect when the time comes to pick one up?
You see its the smug and arrogant attitude that gets me, not that I expect anything different from Microsoft these days. It is absolutely MADNESS as a business to force people to adopt to you. Good business and good consumer practice looks to innovate with themselves to make sure that their product and vision is tailored to the ideals and demand of their intended market.
It's just smart business to build a product you know that your fans and potentially consumers will desire. Making a product that is not desirable and going, well... here it is, one of the two only consoles able to play your next gen games, take it or leave it is insanity and just forcing people to pick the lesser of two evils. In this case, SONY have a major edge over Microsoft.
A lot of people in support of Microsoft are a little ignorant. Just because you have a property and internet does not mean this becomes a non-issue to others. Yes, this is the 21st century, yes a lot of people have internet but there are still issues.
I personally have two problems with the always 'on' agreement they want me to sign into.
1) I am a family man, with a router that is packed to the brim for everyone that lives here. Essentially everyone has a free slot. I have both PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. I tend to play on the PC more than I do consoles to which I only go on to play a game from start to finish then I shelve it to perhaps play at a later date. I like to download and upload on the net, then I use my consoles to have some fun. Now, because I have a router that is filled to the brim I typically if I am looking to go the console online unplug the Ethernet from the PC and rig it to whatever console I wish to use.
I am not going to have a new router put in place just to feed one cable to have it connected to an Xbox One. Of course I could just swap them between each other when I need to verify, but why should I as a consumer meet their requirements, they should be looking to meet my requirements.
2) I travel a lot, for work and I stay in hotels and rented houses depending on the period of time. I take a console with me, I don't connect to the internet because my stay does not warrant it. So, if I am doing a 6 week job, it essentially means I can't take my xbox with me because I need to freaking verify it every 24 hours.
For these reasons the Xbox one, despite it's many flaws (in my opinion) just won't be worth the hassle for me. I am a hard working businessman I choose when I want to play, not Microsoft giving me time windows to play in.
I have also been a gamer since the 80's every since I got my hands on my first gaming machine which was the Commodore 64 which I still own today. I do tend to buy all consoles as I like to play games, the consoles are just the formats I need to play them. But, I think Xbox one will be a miss for me this time. It's just too much of a pain in the ass.
if you dont have internet access then you are living on north pole
ohh wait they have internet access there
If you dont' have internet acces then you are 40 to 55 percent of the country. What we do is not what everyone else does.
Here i did some research for yous since you clearly didn't http://bit.ly/11z8ZXg its only 20% of america that doesn't have internet. Frankly designing to 80% of the market is not a bad idea. There was a good quote from the conference yesterday that there are 220million games in america which is just over 70% so its entirely possible if not likely that almost all of those fall into the 70% category. In most places if you have a cable tv you have internet access.
In 2007 15% of internet users still had dial-up were you all complaining about how rediculous it was that xbox live wouldnt support dial-up? I am quoting loosely from the article below but still the point is the same learn to keep up with the times people. The world is changing and games are requiring new levels of connectivity. Games will eventualy be all digital its only a matter of time so why is it so wrong for a company to embrace and push this.

40-55% of what country ?
you can get internet access almost everywhere, tho not having it becouse some reasons is another thing
and no im not a fanboy
according to many websites that track population % of internet users about 78% of the US population has internet access. From those 78% you can take a wild guess on how many are gamers.

I am sure thats not 100% accurate but thats a lot of customers microsoft are gonig to be missing out on..
Well the PS4 will have that online community as well.. you just wont be forced to always be a part of it.
Because i can.
