people still beleave WoW has no invisible walls they arnt aware that they actually exist or that zone loading was done via a kinda phasic transfer.on the other hand WoW was one of the first games to pull off a filling of there being no invisible walls, or no barrier to zones and I did luv this about the game, but man them mountain sure where all over the place huh LOL

umm most games with high end gfx have the loadign zones for some reason hell alot of instancing.
And most of them were criticized heavily for all the zoning and instancing, and how it disrupts immersion and the destroys the "world feel".
The zones in FFXIV are tiny when compared to most games. Load screens are very, very common as a result when travelling.
I don't think anyone truly enjoys the loading screens but well lets be honest MMOs are getting bigger and consoles have limited hardware so I would expect them to become more common. If they made it for PS4 they might have been able to get by without them but who knows. I would rather a loading screen than constant lag like 1.0.

it may have worked but the lack of load screens is the reason all travel flight paths took the scenic route it took the exact same amount of time to get somewhere as a load screen would and longer on the farther places, the reason is it took time to load the zones without showing load screens, yes its immersive, but I never found load screen immersion breaking, cause its still a game on a monitor ether way it takes the same amount of time to get from point a to b normaly., course starting a flight path and having enough to time to go make dinner, eat and take a shower during the trip made life easyier some times I must admit.

That makes absolutely no sense when you consider now you can fly direct routes every where via your own flying mount. Heck you can fly right down the middle of like 3 "zones" and see each one. Also, how can the game be "taking time to load new zones" while the current zone/in between zones is currently loaded up? The answer is new information is constantly being loaded in and out of the RAM. It's like a bubble around your character almost.
Now you're probably going to come back and say they completely redid the entire games engine and tech to allow for that which is not true.
Also, you could always walkbetween two zones and not have any load screen or flight path time. Something that would cause a load screen in FFXIV.
Personally, it doesn't matter that much to me since I have a pretty fast SSD and the load screens are maybe half a second? But don't make things up just to defend modern MMO decisions.
i think this game will be played by a lot more adults, judging from the replys in this thread.
There is a lot of " I never liked any FF games" or " I don't like Asian style games" not once while i played any final fantasy game did i think this is a Asian art style game.
i think players that played final fantasy since Atleast FF7 will enjoy this game more then the kids who never really got to play Square Enix games when they were in their prime.
maybe your an adult that played final fantasy games since early 90s and still didn't like them..if that's the case you should of probly known this game wouldn't be for you
i knew what i was expecting from this game and i love it..
at any rate it beats any mmo out there today, games like wow have become so easy gamers should be ashamed to play it.
i think wizard 101 is harder then wow infact i don't even think that is a exaggeration someone should do a "is X harder then wow comparison" i bet its up there with hello kitty online.
If ff14 is atleast half as challenging as the single player RPG's then it will be atleast a game worth playing for any gamer.
I probably won't touch the game after release, despite playing through 1.x and all the beta phases since then. Unlike some here, I'm perfectly okay with Asian-style games, and I've always loved the Final Fantasy series. But...
The combat system is a train wreck. I'm not sure it's possible to be any more bland and generic if they'd tried. Slow combat I'm fine with, but the current system is just boring. The combat they have no would have been fine ten years ago, but gamers have higher expectations now.
The zones are tiny. I don't mean smaller than you would expect, I mean miniscule. I literally can't travel more 2 minutes before hitting a wall or zone transition. At best. These are the smallest zones I've seen in an MMORPG in a long time.
Quest hubs. So sick of this model. I realize not everyone is, but....just no.
Yoshi and crew seem to have wanted to casual, WoW-like version of FFXI with this game. I would say they've succeeded. Unfortunately, that is a game I have no desire to play.

I can vouch for this. Anyone who did wall running back in Vanilla could tell you that the game in no way loads on a per-zone basis. Even before flying mounts were introduced clever people found ways to get places the game designers never intended, and it was fairly easy to find places where you could straddle 3+ zones simultaneously.

Ouch, i hope this is an exaggeration.
It's ridiculous hyperbole.
You can play the game for yourself, or watch the tour of Eorzea videos (like above). Do you see them zoning every 2 minutes?
Wow OP you must really hate the game if it means your returning to neverwinter that game is real trash, o well not all games can suit everyone I actually quite liked the return to tab base combat myself, believe it or not I actually find it refreshing after so many action combat mmos.Personal opinion I guess.

do the opinions of someone who thinks neverwinter is better really matter?
It's a beautiful game, I'll give it that. Not bothered by the instanced zones or loading screens. I'm just a little confused as to what market they're trying to target with the current design philosophy. Are they aiming for FFXI and EQ vets who don't mind a bit of the same old, same old? That's kind of a small market to rely on long term. I can't see the casual hordes sticking with this for long and vets whose preferences have evolved with the current trend of faster-paced action mmorpgs may not be willing to give this game the time of day.
My personal pet peeve is with the combat and skills.
I see a lot of number boostin' based on positioning which isn't groundbreaking in the least. Reactive skills which aren't exactly groundbreaking either. They added a "haste" type of mechanic to gear/food in the game to shorten the whopping 2.5 sec gcd? That seems familiar. Anyways, at this point it wouldn't be my cup of tea but I'm willing to wait and see what happens.

It's a bit humorous that the video actually changes scenes every ten to 15 seconds. I do agree with Murugan though - you should definitely see for yourself.
I stand by my original assertion, however - I honestly can't believe how small the zones are.
Guys, am i playing this game wrong, or do i really only have 2 offensive skills with my lvl 12 druid? When i'm playing the cutscenes, the music suggests my battle should be epic, but all i CAN do is hitting my dot one time and then hitting the standard attack for the remaining 3 minutes.
In 95% of other mmo's you have 2 offensive skills already with lvl 0 (even with a healer class), here i still have 'em with lvl 12? Seriously?
This game is very strange. It has the some of the best graphics, objectmodels, animations and music i have ever seen in an mmo, feels like the game designers worked day and night on them, but then there are areas where you feel they worked 2 hours a month on them (skills, quest design, ...).

Yeah it does it is called editting. Still it shows the variation found within zones, and clearly demonstrates in many scenes how the zones are anything but "very small". Did you play the game?
You are right people can see for themselves, but the facts are the video shows different and varied areas within a number of zones. There are many different landmarks, level of mobs, points of interests, dungeons, FATES (of varying levels), beastmen and garlean strongholds, NPC hubs all within zones.
I don't dislike the game but then again i don't see myself playing this game more than a month. It is an average themepark MMO. Although i do agree with those who are saying that map/zones are very small. Especially after coming from GW2 and enjoying its exploration aspect..FFXIV zones feel smaller and bland.

I wasn't aware there was druid class. You have to user the right terms for us to help you. And, FF is all about specialization. So if you picked Conjurer it's not a surprise that almost all your skills are healing.

Damn the game looks so good. Every time I see a video, I try to forget the issues I have with it.

you talking about conj? level thm till 10 then switch to conj and use thm skills on him
It's quick to get into if you have ever played a themepark before. It's standard stuff all across the board.
The graphics are superb, and I found myself staring at the scenery all the time. It feels like a world, and I like all the mechanics I've seen so far. Sure it's old, but why change something that works, huh?
The major problem I am having is that most NPCs are children. Some of them are clearly babies. I am convinced the arch mage in the thaumaturge guild is actually wearing diapers. I try to think of him as "Stewie" in "Family guy" but it isn't helping. All the other leaders of the thaumaturge guild are babies too. They look like they need to be breast-fed every four hours. It is immersion breaking.
It only makes it worse that some of the babies are not just cute, but they are obviously made to look and talk sexy. Am I the only one finding it VERY disturbing to have five year old girls with big glossy lips and revealing cleavage flirt with me between quests? Sometimes I need to look away. I don't feel well.
I know it is Asian, but what about ditching the children? I expect my hero adventurer to be old enough to RAID without having to ask his mother for permission.
It has a final fantasy feel to it which is great. I enjoy the character creation and the world is breathtaking.
What i've noticed over beta , is it's just too slow. I played through found some bugs, reported them , have done my job as a tester.
I will wait at least a year to purchase though. There are so many titles coming out that I am interested in ,i'll wait to see how they all perform before buying them.
I tried to like it, I really did but two things make me not like the game, well 3 if you want to count the inability to skip through all the cut scene bullcrap at character creation.
I really dislike Asian themed games, I do not, nor will I ever like a bright, vibrant cuddly wuddly environment in my fantasy game, This was strike 1. Killing Squirrels abd bunny rabbits was strike 2.
lastly, the flow of combat is SO SLOW, its boring to me and I can never go back to the tab target. stand still trade blows with my target type of combat. On top of that the combat flow feels even slower then say WoW or Rift. Not fun at for me at all. Ohh well I tried but it's back to Neverwinter I go.
I personally love the game, but I respect your right not to like it.
I personally love the environment ( yes the character model is asian style, but I don't really care, and the male models really aren't girly...).
The fact that you talked about killing rabbit and bunnies mean you were about lvl 5-6..... You really expect to be fighting ''UBER MONSTER OF DOOM WITH TEN HEADS'' at lvl 5 ? EVERY game has little cute and inoffensive monsters at lower levels... You have the right not to like the game, but next time, maybe be a little more patient instead of dismissing a game after playing 0,0001% of its content ?
The combat is slower than most games because you have to move around (the part where you talk about tab target standing still just means you were playing wrong...) and also it's designed a little slower because FF is all about group play and you have to do group combos and really synchronize with your teammates, that would be hard if the GCD was 0.5 seconds and you were spamming spells like a mage on crack...
BUT, saying you don't like FF:ARR and then saying you're going back to Neverwinter ( implying Neverwinter is better than FF:ARR) makes you loose all credibility for me...

It has the some of the best graphics, objectmodels, animations and music i have ever seen in an mmo, feels like the game designers worked day and night on them, but then there are areas where you feel they worked 2 hours a month on them (skills, quest design, ...).
never be enough
Yeah it does it is called editting. Still it shows the variation found within zones, and clearly demonstrates in many scenes how the zones are anything but "very small". Did you play the game?
You are right people can see for themselves, but the facts are the video shows different and varied areas within a number of zones. There are many different landmarks, level of mobs, points of interests, dungeons, FATES (of varying levels), beastmen and garlean strongholds, NPC hubs all within zones.
Here are maps of all the zones

(they are missing more than a few but you get the point)
They don't look small to me, and I can spend much much longer than two minutes in each zone. As could anyone who actually plays the game.

I wasn't aware there was druid class. You have to user the right terms for us to help you. And, FF is all about specialization. So if you picked Conjurer it's not a surprise that almost all your skills are healing.
Damn the game looks so good. Every time I see a video, I try to forget the issues I have with it.
you talking about conj? level thm till 10 then switch to conj and use thm skills on him
I've played for a few hours this weekend.
I wouldn't say I don't like it.
