Well the fact that ncsoft has an expansion planned on their roadmap, I doubt this.

Hmm I like the living world updates, but they aren't big like an expansion would be. So far all the living world updates have been small and incremental to tell a story. Unless they plan to do much much larger updates(new continents, races, classes) as part of the living world then I will be disappointed if they don't do an expansion in the next year or so.

That's annoying, I wanted to see a nice big Cantha or Elona expansion rather than this piecemeal living story crap.

Fret not, they will DEFINITELY have full (game) priced expansions like GW1 did, the cash-shop alone can only fund them so far..
http://neocron-game.com/ - now totally F2P no cash-shops or micro transactions at all.

I have never been a fan of expansions that you have to buy. Everybody wont buy the expansions at the same time and some wont even buy them at all. Everybody wont have the same content which can be a pain when trying to group and do stuff. Free major updates is what I like in a mmo because they come faster and because they are free so everybody has the same content at all times. If Guild Wars 2 can get small updates every couple of weeks like they plan to do and get a major update every 6 months then that's good to me. Kinda like how Lineage 2 and Aion get free major updates every 6 months.

This is from the article and from the lead content designer Mike Zadorojny.

I pressed him to tell me whether there would be a Guild Wars 2 expansion this year and he shook his head to indicate no. What about next year, I asked?

"If we do this right," he answered, "we will probably never do an expansion and everything will be going into this Living World strategy."

Either he's telling the truth or deflecting attention away from an expansion, if its the former that makes the reported news from a few months ago about an expansion in the works rather strange. And with 250+ devs to support is the cash shop really making 300k a week in revenue if average wages are about 50k? (not in the US so don't really know the average dev wage therefore puling numbers out of my arse here but it gives us an idea of how much the cash shop needs to make)

ArenaNet will deny, deflect and misdirect any and all discussions about possible expansions until they are ready to officially announce an expansion even if it means disavowing the existence of an expansion the day before the official announcement.

Expansions are obviously in the works but ArenaNet only want to talk about their Bi-Weekly Updates currently.

     Same here.

I want to see new classes, new races, new weapon sets, new skills, new utilities and new areas to explore.

Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!

Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!

Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!

If enough people spend money in the cash shop, they won't need to have a paided expansion.  Whales will be paying for it.

Whales only exist in games that have extensive cash shops that use consumables needed at endgame to refine/gem/upgrade weapons and armor coupled with useful pets, mounts and costumes but the biggest money spinners are those consumables as they are an ongoing money sink. GW2 has no mounts, pets are cosmetic and no upgrading consumables so where are these big money spenders coming from? I've put money in gems but cannot find anything worth buying in the shop so they just sit there until I do.

Obviously there will be a large content expansion for this game, Arenanet as a business has to decline that though until one is Officially announced.

    Have they denied this?

Ofc they will release an expansion, i would assume at end of 2014 or start of 2015. I hope for Cantha.

The thing is they don't need to release an expansion in the coming months, the game need to be built up with monthly/weekly updates at the moment and strenghten the core game and add new features that are needed.

When ArenaNet feel pleased with the current game world and the updates they've made to it they can go on with an expansion.

With a new continent though, they won't be able to update both continents as much, unless they make the live teams bigger.

There will be an expansion but it's not this year or early next year.

Colin Johanson gave more words on this:

"Just to clarify a bit, as Mike said there are numerous teams beyond our Living World teams, and some of them are working on much longer term projects which we’ll go into details on much further down the road.

It’s entirely possible some of the types of content which you might traditionally find in expansions would be released through an expansion in the future for Gw2, and it’s possible we’d try something different when it comes to integrating those type of releases.

We have no final plans one way or another about expansions at this time, and certainly haven’t ruled them out, it’s something we’ll discuss more in the future.

Edited to add: Our primary focus right now is on making the core Gw2 experience as strong and compelling as possible, we’ll release a blog post later this month detailing more specifically our plans for Gw2 in the second half of 2013."

Well, that unbreaking Axe I just bought for 800 gems for logging certainly fits the bill. After getting the harvesting sickle this was a "must get", and I have non-buyers remorse at not getting the pick earlier. Sigh...

Volkon I'm sure those are popular I nearly bought the axe but they need to generate at least in my view 300k a week and there are no ongoing costs like there are in a true f2p game so where is that revenue coming from? don't get me wrong I like GW2 a lot but I don't see how the shop can generate that kind of income alone. Unless the events that will be coming every too weeks have shop additions as well. An expac would sell very well and generate big income if done digital only.

Let's go with your 300K per week number. That's what... $1.00 per person per week if there are only 300K players.

Dynamic events failed so hard, the leveling process from 1-50 is so empty. You only see a handful of people occasionally. If they were to make expansions it would totally rip the game apart. Guild Wars 2 has a bad game design. It is only good for the moment and after a month or 2 you get bored.

Yeah, if NCSoft wants an expansion, then GW2 will get an expansion. Not to underplay bi-weekly updates and microtransactions plan, but paid expansion sales would look good on their financial spreadsheets and would raise awareness for the game.

I cannot really believe there are 300k players paying let alone any more, this move to biweekly content is an attempt to get players playing more often and paying more often as I bet numbers swell with the Living Story updates but the rest of the time from my observations the mid level zones are empty and Lions Arch doesn't even go to overflow these days. 10 months in and not much new permanent content for people to get stuck into to keep them playing and paying.
