I love FF14. Dont get me wrong. Im just saying to those who havent tried it. Game should be fun once you get past the totorial.

    That goes for all games.

Free Open Beta. Try it, you may like it! The tutorial is like 15 levels. I made it just past that. I found the game to be fun, solid, and very old school.

Always a good sign, that's all I'm saying.

You know the GW2 fans have made the exact same argument since all the haters like to dump on it.  I'm just sayin, it's the exact same argument.  Why is it supposed to work here, but not there?

I think the game is going to be a good one, but I still haven't seen anything that would make me leave my current themeparks to start all over again, let alone rent the game to do so.  The most appealing thing about this game is the job system.  I really love how skills work in TSW and roles work in Rift.  I think the job system and building a single character with varied skills and potential is a core strength of the game.

It's also sort of weird that the OP and fans need to drum up revenue support for the game by sending out the warning not to let it pass you by.  Is the game going somewhere?  Will people who join the game in a year be so far left behind they will have to get twinked to catch up?  What exactly is the worry here?

They're FANS, it's not a worry, they're just letting people know they enjoy the game and hopefully people will try it bassed on their experience and enjoy it as much as they do.  It's no difference from you (I know you're a hardcore GW2 fan) talking up GW2, the weird one is you my friend.

The game is $30 for the box, and like $13 a month. Its also one of its biggest selling points. After years of all the F2P crap thats beien passed out in the last couple of years. I find this refreshing.

I have seen a lot of new MMOs offering new this, or new that. They dont make the cut and go F2P so they can milk it for all the cash they can.

Some people show more enthusiasm in the things they like more than others. The OP is obviously using exaggerated phrasings to catch people's attention. You don't need to look so deep into it. No one's forcing anyone to play anything. Isn't it common to treat what most fans say as word of mouth advertisement anyway? Isn't that the purpose of forum like this? I see nothing weird about fan hype or critics chiming in to say they don't like the game and give their own opinion.

And I don't get why you brought up the GW2 argument. You're saying why is it supposed to work here, but not there? Isn't it the other way around since GW2 have been doing so well? Again, not every game caters to every crowd.

Anyway as a fellow TSW player I'll just say that you should at least play through the open beta week since it will be the final time you can try out 99% of the full game for free for a while.

The only reason I haven't been too bothered about this game is because I haven't seen anything in it that I haven't done 1000 times before in other games under different guises. But who knows, if there is nothing else to play when it releases I am sure I will give it another look.

Why shouldn't I pass up this game? It's 100% nothing like FFXI and has none of the features that kept people playing for years (ffxi was built off the forced grouping social classic eq model and ffxiv is built off the anti-social solo model). The world is almost as linear as SWTOR and the quests are a straight rip from the generic mmo model. The only thing different that ffxiv is bringing to the table is crafting but then again its a straight rip from eq2.

Typical fan, get all defensive if someone asks questions.  I don't think I have ever made a post urging someone not to let a game pass them by unless they first expressed interest in it.  My likes may not be what someone else likes.

I'm not a super hardcore GW2 fan how would you "know" that?  You don't know me at all.  I'm not a super hardcore fan of any game.  I urge people to enjoy the games they like for what they offer.  That's about it.  The OP brought it up for discussion when they opened the thread and started making comparisons.  Funny thing is you couldn't answer any of the points I made.

I most certainly argued the point you made, you just don't like the answer.  There is nothing weird about what the OP and FANs do, again you're the weird one thinking it's any kind of conpiracy or FANs worrying about their game not doing well or something.  Some people just like to let others know they enjoy something, you come in questioning their motive and go all conspiracy theory on the post.  It's more like you have an agenda then what you make the OP out as trying to do.

What exactly is refreshing about paying a sub-fee for the exact same gameplay we've been paying sub-fees for since the beginning of time?  That is the exact same thing that has been done for years.

It s very refreshing to pay a sub fee to get an old school feel type game again. It s very refreshing to pay a sub fee to not get the same game we ve seen for the last 20-30 games since WOW(yes that includes GW2). Theres many more but this game is refreshing in general.

Thing is these "Fans" are trying to act like the game is a breath of fresh air to the genre but the reality of the game is that it's the same old themepark mmo that has been released since 2004 (and history will repeat it self since the game doesn't offer anything new).

I disagree. For years MMOs have been looking for New stuff. New combat, new questing, ne events. Each of these games eventually falls into F2P.

FF14 is bringing nothing new, but it is goin back to what I like about the old games. The sub fee means that there should be less haters, or troll or whatevers becasue it will be P2P. A lot of people, including me, are looking for better comunites in MMOs. The sub should "weed" out some of them out.

Not to sound elitits, well too late, but community is a big part for me in MMOs. Subs should help out with that. IMO.

I dont think the fans are saying its goin to bring new things to MMOs. Just doing the old things but updated .

I know thats why Im goin to play. Nothing new., Old school stuff that has worked for years.

What old school things are you talking about? Most of the gameplay in FFXIV is the same as most current themepark mmos on the market. Going old school would be going back to the old FFXI model with forced grouping and quests that don't give exp.

TERA, Rift, SWTOR, RO2, and to an extend GW2. Yes, also WoW, but Wow has millions of players. Theres goin to be a vocal minorty thats louder than the majprity. I found a lot of good people in WoW. Made more than a few freinds there. Tehy still play. I quit WoW for other reasons.

Never played FF11, not big into the whole FF thing at all.

Old school I mean Story driven MMO. The NON twitchy combat system.

That wasn't the point of the post, he suggested that P2P will force out the "kids" and keep the community pure.

Thing is these "Fans" are trying to act like the game is a breath of fresh air to the genre but the reality of the game is that it's the same old themepark mmo that has been released since 2004 (and history will repeat it self since the game doesn't offer anything new).

Never played FF11, not big into the whole FF thing at all.

Old school I mean Story driven MMO. The NON twitchy combat system.

Well not really old school since SWTOR was the first mmo to make story lines a big part of the game. Also ffxiv is a twitchy combat mmo with hotbars, macros and skill combos.

Tried it wasn't for me so I moved on.  I don't think the game is anything special nor does it bring anything new to the genre but for those who love the game and enjoy the slower paced combat I am glad the game is here because it gives you baddies (J/K image) something new to play and allows other games to fully embrace the future of MMO combat.

Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!

Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!

Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!

They're FANS, it's not a worry, they're just letting people know they enjoy the game and hopefully people will try it bassed on their experience and enjoy it as much as they do.  It's no difference from you (I know you're a hardcore GW2 fan) talking up GW2, the weird one is you my friend.

Typical fan, get all defensive if someone asks questions.  I don't think I have ever made a post urging someone not to let a game pass them by unless they first expressed interest in it.  My likes may not be what someone else likes.

Pretty much agree with you.  It pains me to understand how this game has done so well on the hype meter when this site for the most part has been on an anti-Themepark crusade for years now.  Ohh well I think it just goes to show you that Themepark model of design will never truly die and for the most part I am fine with that, as long as you have innovation In the genre.  FFXIV has some innovation but not nearly enough but that isn't why I dislike the game, me personally it is the combat that kills it for me.
