The most thing I miss from FFXI that I wish this game had (And even other games) is that you have to buy a map of the locations you intend to go if you don't want to get lost.

Anyone remembers ifrit island?
Remember ffximap.com where I estimated where I was until I memorized the map?

Juntunga Jungle.... UGH! 80% of the time I would get lost even with a map. so many ways to get disoriented in that place.

Good for you, I don't use stuff that breaks the point of exploring.
Reading all the stuff in this thread is getting me hyped up for FFXIV even more. Does anyone have an extra open beta code? I missed out and would love to get in on that

You don't need one, that's the point of the open beta. You just register once they open it up again, and you're in for phase 4. Just need patience, that's all.
Oh okay...I was just confused if there was like a pre open beta or something because I heard mention of people getting codes and then the registration being taken down

Just to make it clearer open beta registrations have closed but they will be re opening the registration after open beta starts. That could be the day of open beta or days after. I think it's a little weird they even have this registration process and don't just let everyone straight in.
I suppose the extra step is neccessary since you can roll your beta account over into the live service. They may need the additional user data to make that transition easier later on.
Wow this thread exploded. I'm glad that there are a few out there like me who had no interest, gave the beta a chance and realized that the game is truly a lot of fun. I know this game isn't for everyone, that's fine.
The main reason I started this post was to reach out to those people on the fence who aren't sure they want to dive into this game.
The end game looks to be shaping up very nicely... here are some examples:
- Level 50 FATEs
- Level 50 Normal Dungeons
- Level 50 Hard Mode Dungeons (different layout and bosses than Normal Dungeons - but in same dungeon).
- 8-player Primal Fights (These will have Hard and Extreme Mode and will drop very nice Primal weapons)
- 24-player Raids - so far 2 Raid Dungeons have been announced (and they will be adding additional area's and bosses to both raids)
- Relic Weapon Quest - Real long involved quest for very cool weapons
- Player Housing
They plan on releasing Major updates every 2 1/2 months, and are planning for an expansion in 1 1/2 to 2 years.
One of the Major expansions will be a huge graphics update that will give DirectX 11 support. I think the graphics look nice now, so I can't wait to see what the update will do.
I get a very strong impression that as a player, advancing into the game, it's complexity is supposed to Ramp up. That would be great if it actually does.
But even if it doesn't I had enough fun in the beta to know that it can at least meet my basic expectations. I'm not going to get all my hopes on something I haven't actually seen yet, but it's just a feeling I got in beta.

Yea the graphics look very nice now I cannot Imagine an update to them this early in the games life. Also I hope the relic weapon quests are hard to do but not as absurd as they are in FFXI. I will never admit how long it took me to get 8 relic weapons in that game....... I have Empy stuffs (Ochain,Almace) but don't count those as they were infinitly easier to obtain than when I first got sword and board.

I get that same feeling and I hope we are both right, Having abilities that sit on the global cooldown earlier in level and then getting abilities that have different timers will add a nice bit of strategy later on. The fact that the Dev team is having so many issues beating the content that they are adding also gives me some hope that this will remain FF tough which is one of the things that has always attracted me to the series. (Notorious Monster, Impossible to Gauge, Team Up, Do you Need it?)
I believe they said the 2 raids will be super hard/long and need a "save" in the middle to progress properly.
Really, I think this game will be fine.
Until the first expansion, that is...
Yeah I read that too. The Raid will eventually be so long that you will have to have save points. Hopefully what that means is that once you clear a section and you come back the next night (or whenever you go back) that you don't have to clear out trash again to continue through the raid.
Originally posted by dyermaker714 Call me biased or closed-minded or whatever, but the fact that this game 1) Is zoned, as in has loading screens between zones, as in not seamless (its 2013...seriously? What in existence could possibly Annihilate immersion more that a freakin loading screen..just..wow) and 2) That there is ZERO open world PvP are just huge disappointments for me. Its a shame too because I truly love Final Fantasy
This post seems very contradictive. If you truly love Final Fantasy, then why would you be disappointed with loading screens and no open PvP? Every ff game ever made has tons of loading screens and no open PvP. So why is this the deal breaker now? Why do you want a franchise you love to be something it never has been in its entire history?
Because at the time when I fell in love with the franchise there just wasn't technology available yet to creat seamless worlds. Now there is. Its disappointing to me to see that it just isn't being utilized.
I didn't play FFXIV version 1.0 or any ARR Betas but I did play FFXI on the PS2 for over a year with a few friends and had fun so after all this time I was wondering if I'd give SE a shot once again with the upcoming launch. My friends immediately said NO to this mmo which was surprising to me since they love FF however maybe down the road they'll have a change of heart. As for me I went with the PC CE for myself & hope it's going to be a fun adventure that lives up to the FF name.

Shocking eh?

The people who were already registered for previous betas got a new code and were asked to register again.
New players who haven't been part of previous tests can sign up for the open beta once registration is open again.
