It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!
I would like to see a system that has a more involved experience with mounts. For instance, the need to care for your mount. You would have to feed and properly house your mount otherwise it might become temperamental or just die on you. Imagine riding out to a dungeon and leaving your mount outside and when you come back you notice some orges came by and killed your mount. You would have to walk back to town on foot.To put it more simply your mount would never be in your inventory, it would exist as it's own entity.

I like where you're going, but you would need to trim the idea a little.
It being always out in the world, I like.
Feeding and caring, while immersive , will get old very fast.
Instead of it getting killed when baddies go by, it just vanishes/runs back to town where you will find it safe.
So you would have to take care as to where you place your mount before leaving it alone.

I like it, but instead of horse being back in town, you should have to rescue it from the wandering ogres. Gives you a cool side quest. Also feeding and caring wouldn't be so bad if done like EQ1 eat/drink system where if u had it in your inventory it would auto-use. To balance the time/effort of caring for it have an encumbrance system, so if you want to have heavy armor and take a bunch of loot, you could carry extra on horse. I know some of these little things can seem like an annoyance but can make you feel more like in a world and not just fighting like an action type game. And i don't want to hear comment about having to use the bathroom in the game, thats not a good point, because its not going to be the game, just an over exaggeration.
I don't want boring clicky mounts for moving faster.
I want to have horses that I can pull my merchant wagon with. Be able to raise a horse or buy a horse from someone that did. Maybe train it for stuff.
Good ideas here and from the OP.
If this game wants to be a "sand park" we should be able to raise and care for mounts on our farms according to our needs.
ArcheAge already does a variant of this, EQ:N should be ahead of the curve not behind it.
True but we can hope for a world big enough to need both .
I like the idea of mounts and needing to take care of them, maybe one of the many traits to advance in. I also like the idea of wagons to maybe have a mobile storage much bigger than your inventory. That would work with localized markets like they talked about in EQ2 before it's release.
it would be cool to have a different system of mounts. Having to get them in the wild or rescue them would be cool. Don't make them another clicky instead you have to stable them. Also, if they get killed they are gone forever. So mounted combat would have a drawback.
Perhaps some players could make a living gathering horses to sell to players...

Philosophy of MMO Game Design
i would like it more if mounts were Not in the game to start...and then make it Hard to get one
so everyone was a Newbie for a long time in this game.....don't really enjoy seeing people with Crazy items on day 3 of the game.....would like to see a More Hardcore game that takes a long time before anyone has special magical items of power including mounts....I enjoyed EQ 1 a lot back in the day when there wasn't even mounts
I would love to see EQ do something a bit more with mounts then most mmo's do.
I'd like to bring up flying mounts.
If they do have them (I hope)I for one would love to actually see gameplay built around VERTICAL things. Being able to fly your mount to area's you can't get to from foot (IE the top of a cliff/mountain peak) and other things, actually give reasons for the flying mounts to exist and be more useful.
Also for the love of all that is holy, for ANY mount, ground or air, I hope they get controls and animations done better.
Horses need to have "gaits" of speeds, walk, trot, canter, gallop. Have it work like a "Throttle" (mount and blade style), where you push w once, it goes up a gait, push w, it goes down. You push (and hold) w or s, and it goes to the fastest speed (or stops you if you hold s).
Horses and other types of mounts should control an dmove like you'd expect them to.
Flying mounts should be able to actually you know......do barrel rolls, do loops/flips, they should NOT control like a ground mount.
I HATED that about WoW and other games with flying mounts, it juts felt like you were riding a "horse" in the air, ther was no new controls and you couldn't move like a real flying animal could do. Diving didn't give you more speed, you couldn't roll it, nothing.
The flying mounts should control like an airplane, allow you to make them go faster/slower, allow diving to give you more speed, all that you'd expect from something flying.
I would be fine with no mounts at launch, but it is something that is too attractive to put in the cash shop, for them to not do it imo.
Yes ArcheAge wins when it comes to mounts, no other mmo can come close and the icing on the cake is that ArcheAge also allows for Duel Mounting.
Yup that's right people, two people can ride mounts, one controls the mount while the other attacks.
This is why i keep saying that Smed needs to come correct because games like ArcheAge and Age Of Wulin have some really great features.
Look at Age OF Wulin's offline system for a start.

Nope. SOW was the best mount ever in EQ. Waiting and MISSING! the boat was awesome as well. Although I do like taxi systems like DAoC's horses (rent a horse that takes you from A to B, can jump off, but can't control) or WoW's griffons (fly you from A to .
As mounts are pretty much mandatory these days, don't get your hopes up though.
I really hope they don't go with the flying/jumping mounts of EQ2. Such a horrible design. Keep it simple.
I'm all for realistic mounts instead of Pokemon style.
Would be interesting for players to own stables and raise mounts for rent/sale. If you owned a mount, you would have to keep up with maintenance of some sort, but could just rent one to get from A to B or carry a heavy load of supplies without all the extra maintenance.
Also would like a stamina meter for mounts. Instead of being able to zoom around all day long, you could sprint for a while, but eventually would come to a trot and have to build energy back up or you could feed mount something to give it a boost.
Crazy idea would be having player made towns and being able to connect with a trade route. When on road, maybe have speed buffs for mounts or be able to connect multiple mounts together and attach a cart for others to ride (think Archeage maybe has something like this).
Yeah i feel ya on that, also go back to only having a Wizard and Druid with gate spells.
Not going to happen unless Smed gives us a classic type server.
I like this.. It reminds me of WoW feeding so your pet begins to like you.. I do like the idea of mount being outside, and you have the choice to send him back home, or mob's make it vanish as you explained.. I also hope that EQN brings back the need for food and drink for our characters, and I would add mount food as required too.. Games need money sinks as much as time sinks.. That is one problem I believe we have, are items come into the game, but never leave..
And for the love of god.. NO FLYING MOUNTS.. Please..
I do like the idea of variable mounts.. Just not horses, but zebras, mules, or whatnots.. Each not only have different appearance but skill or stats.. Easy example would be that mule carries more then horse, so on, and so on.. Zebras a little slower then horses, but eat less
Never thought of that before. Would be interesting to have multiple mounts at your house and you can only pick one to adventure with. Would make us have to actually think and plan ahead and go with the mount with the best stats for that adventure instead of having 20 mounts in a bag.
My thoughts too.. I would treat the stable like WoW does with Hunter pets.. You can house up to so many different kind, but you can only pull one out at a time for it's intended use.. I sorta like the idea that you think you have your horse in a safe area, stumble out of Blackburrow for example to put more hides and ores on the mule, ONLY to find that he was scared off and ran back to town.. So now you have to huff it and puff it back by foot either being encumbered by the loot, or drop it and run.. or .. sell it to someone in the vacinity at a discount..
Some players might actually become profession traveling bankers in their off time going around buying loot at discount, and making those runs back and forth from town.. I loved finding a banker for me when I was farming giants in Everfrost.. ..
Neither of those videos showed at all should an ability for the player to actually have full access over flying to tilt or do loops like you'd expect a flying mount to be able to do.
I like your ideas. I also think, as adventurers, mounts should be available from early on.
Wizard and Druid ports would be able able to transport you (and your mount) half way or all the way across the world, but what if you just wanted to go from Qeynos to Halas? A mount would be the way to go.
Perhaps having to feed mounts might be too much of a pain for some, but what if you could feed your mounts and they either get a bonus (10% faster while fed) or a penalty (10% slower while unfed)?
I guess we'll find out soon... The clock is ticking.

mounts are ok but lets have wizzy/druid only ports.
I want to see race restrictions on mounts. Humans can ride horses/zebras/elephants ect. Small races have to ride small animals like dogs and deer ect. Big races can ride bears and dragons ect. Maybe then refine it more where evil races cant ride the same as good races.
Classes could also be important as a druid can ride any animal but a enchanter can only ride elemental creatures.I know i am asking for too much here but i can hope.
I like the idea of breeding your own mounts and for it to take time to breed them so in that way players wont be riding about on mounts for a few weeks after launch atleast.
While I don't like the idea of having a lot of ongoing maintenance, I WOULD like there to be a whole lot of effort players have to go through in order to acquire a mount to begin with. Also no flying mounts....
If it were up to me, we would have to go through a difficult series of minigames in order to get horse-rider training.
