+1 :) If done right it can look great and be less demanding on computers.

Agreed!, as for OP if you won't play a game even if its the game changing game of the genre because of the graphics style, /wave!  See ya later =)

Personally, i don't mind WoW's art style, which is similar to Warhammer's.  Is it over the top and exaggerated?  Of course, but at least it sticks to some western mythology, such as orcs, trolls, and goblins.  When art style, starts looking like Wildstar though, that's where i draw the line.  I can't get into furries or anime toons with huge eyes.

Totally agree with you. I like the art style of ESO and what I've seen of Black Desert. Anyway, we are all never going to agree on this topic.

OP and the rest of this forum.

So many times I mention the bad artstyle and people say they do not want a photorealistic game. Wat.

    Favorite MMO: Vanilla WoW
    Currently playing: GW2, EVE
    Excited for: Wildstar, maybe?

So you don't want EQN to look anything like its predecessors which were both cartoony? Cool? Not sure what you were expecting....

I hate it when people make this claim about EQ. It's not realistic.. it's not gritty. It uses over saturated colours and models with exaggerated features.

Here's some food for thought about your realistic Everquest.

    Everquest Orc:

    WoW Orc:

... and then there's EQ's giggling skeletons and stuff.. jeez. EQ is one of the more immature MMOs. Just because the playerbase wasn't or isn't doesn't meant the game wasn't/isn't.

Hey, look at this giant that came straight out of Jack and the Beanstalk or the BFG movie, love that beer belly:

Case and point, WoW looks like it does because EQ set the bar. EQ started cartoony graphics in MMOs. Look at those Orc shots again.. check the colour palette.. the colour and shape of the Orc.. the colour of the sky and the ground. WoW copied EQ in art style. Warcraft: Orcs & Humans probably took it straight from Warhammer in the first place... then EQ copied it.. then WoW copied EQ.

I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

If they don't get fantasy back to how it should be, and make it some cartoony crap then I'll have no interest already.

Could you please give some examples of MMOs that have had art styles which you think are realistic?

Normally I would have thought you were dumb for believing art style was a deciding factor in whether or not to play a game , then all these truly ugly Korean MMOs starting arriving, Aion etc...    and TERA ugh  sooo ugly and those super giant weapons.!  I refuse to play it

I'm bored of the whole cartoony thing, they all do it now and everything ends up looking the same. It was great when WoW done it, like yeh it was something new back then but now it's like "geez another one of those?" and I just want something that looks more like Skyrim/Oblivion and less like a cartoon.

EQII had realistic graphics but the secondary sounds of the game and some of the character designs and animations made the game just that - cute. On the other hand, WoW may have been cartoony but I never felt out of place while grazing the plains of Mulgore.

EQ2 had such poor art, I mean I loved it in alpha and then some how it turned to shit between beta and release.

It's really hard to take you seriously. Go back and look at a few Everquest screen shots. The game looked worst than vanilla WoW.

Can somebody make some side by side pictures showing NPC/characters from Vanilla WoW and EQ1 so we can do some comparisons? Lols

There are only 2 things that can keep ma away from Everquest: P2W and FFA PvP shite. Everything else is completely acceptable for me.

Good news, The Elder Scrolls online is just around the corner. Besides, most games coming out are going for pseudo-realism. It seems only Wildstar and EQNext are not.

  • capitalTcapitalT Member Posts: 20

One thing I really dont like is when all the races available just look like humans with animal heads . or witchypoo noses type things, or just a skin color or texture change.

One of the greatest things for me about WoW , upcoming Wildstar, original EQ( pre- graphics update)  was that ,in general, you can tell one race from the other just by their profile .  Sure in EQ there were several huminoid races , but in the context it made sense.

I hated the EQ1 graphics update, especially the new versions of Ogres and Trolls. They became so ugly!

You are correct those are the Original graphics when the game was released, in 1999, they did upgrade the graphics before wow was released to :

    Ruins of kurnak ( aprill 24 2000

So if you do want to bask in realism.. then lets be realistic.

Well I guess I'm out then, I don't like how the game looks, just looks like WoW on DX9 : Inf act looks exactly like GW2 or Firefall or any other stylized MMO.

Non photo-realistic means they can jam a lot more characters on screen at once.  Could be worth the tradeoff.

This is complete crap. It is WoW 2.0 graphics, and our family is completely heartbroken. We're SICK AND TIRED of all these "Modern" titles coming out with aweful graphics aimed at pre-teens.

JUST LOOK AT THIS! Everquest: Next is a failure.

I think it looks fine.  Then again, I did not like the character models in EQ2 at all.  I never played the original EQ back in the day so I can't really judge how it looks with 2013 eyes objectively.
