    1. The art style

LOVE IT!  This is a GAME after all and I get enough realism when I go to work.

    2. Destructible environment:

I was playing cube world and was wondering how long it would be before a major title game would be voxel based. I now have an answer.

    3. Class system

Over 40 classes that you have to find then you can mix/match skills from each to make your own class......LOVE IT! I'm getting that GOTTA CATCH EM ALL! feel from this.

    4. Player made content

This leads to more creativity and is good.....so long as entries are screened.

    5. Combat and UI

No boring sandwich combat thank god, and I will be more involved playing the game instead of playing Hotbars Online.

What? How?  GW2 is nothing but a static world with timed PQ's that change absolutely nothing with a masked quest grind in the shape of a heart.

The art style fits the world perfectly, and gives them a lot more room to grow over time.  Not to mention the ability for us the players to create things for the world too without making it an eyesore if we don't get hyper realistic art right.

The class mix and match is new too, you can't do that in GW2.  The one thing that is going to be a nightmare for SOE is class balance.  If I can mix and match classes and abilities you know people are gonna find god mode combinations.

I think the first line in your statement kind of points a bit drama your way when there are plenty of positive comments. Don't read one or two comments then base your decision on who is critical and trolling. People won't take you seriously.

I hope you arent required to have any experience with Minecraft in order to participate successfully in EQN Landmark. I really just want to play the game not build it, but I am open minded so we shall see how it pans out.

Im pleasantly surprised however I still want gameplay details. Difficulty, death penalty, level progression, end game, crafting? These are all areas that need some illumination.

Concerning the parkour idea -- does that mean it will be easier or harder for my friend Vidalia to fall out of the tree in Kelethin?

Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

Graphics and combat animations as well as combat look awful and I really doubt that they can pull off the whole dynamic content concept. Thta din't work in SWG, why would it work here? This and the desctructability thing look like they gonna be exploited day and night by doodz trying to be cool instead of "playing along as the devs intended".

It's gonna be interesting to follow this one but I'm not holding my breath.

Oh, and WoW called, they want their giant shoulder pads back.

It was a nice beginning.. Still TONS of detail and info that needs to come out over time..  We'll just have to play the slow hype train to release..  I'm still holding our for intel on crafting and economy.. and just how big is this world?  I did get the impression that instance dungeon and raid grinds will be axed or limited..  You don't spend this amount of resources to make a destructible world for everyone to live in a private room..  The mention of PvP was there, but at to how?  Factions?  I did get the impression that the UI will be very simple and it looks like the game will not be  addon friendly.. So.. bye bye "I win" macro..  It will be interesting to see how much intel they release in the future and how often

Good lord... People are complaining about this?!  This is probably the best MMORPG reveal I have ever seen, and people are complaining?! So the art doesn't match exactly what you see in your head... Big deal? The art is what it is, and I really hope people here watched the video reveal, because looking at the art in a screen shot is one thing, but looking at it live in motion is totally different. Most people don't want to jump into a game and have it look like the world when they walk outside their door, certainly not in a fantasy game. But again... Even if you are not in love with the design direction of the art, the game itself guys... Jesus.. The stuff they are doing is amazing. I am in 200%. and I will be playing my @ss off with the creation studio up until release.

Amazing reveal. We all win with this. Looks to be the king of future MMORPGs.

    +1 and lol'd

Also since the enviroment will "heal" after a while so that players cant ruin the whole fken game world in the first week, I realized they havent shown a single sandbox feature. Only announced a separate little sandbox builder game.

  • Ok here's my beef

The game they presented was in my eyes very nice, but to be honest it just didn't feel like EQ and I think a lot of other people may agree.

Typically EQ has had a fairly gritty realish look to it, obviously there are exceptions but it has never been blatantly cartoonish. The character models we’re very reminiscent to of a WoW Disney hybrid. I am astounded that SOE would go this route even with the clear trending of dislike for that style.

Aside from the graphics, which in the end mean squat when compared to gameplay, the combat left me feeling underwhelmed. The flashy hack and slash was over the top and as another user mentioned before “I’m tired of enemies dying in one or two hits” and that’s exactly what those mobs did, died in one or two hits. In EQ and EQII there has always been a looming danger involved in just running up and smacking an NPC and that was part of the allure, and that was also the reason for groups.

I am also dubious about the mixing of classes, and here is my reason. When you build a character that can do a little bit of everything what is the point in even starting a group? Grouping is the seed of building friendships and ultimately forming a strong community.

Procedurally generated.. Anyone play Warframe lately? Tell me how long procedurally generated content remains interesting. But I’m willing to wait and see how this pans out.

Destructible environment seems like a very cool idea and I would love to see it work in game. But again this feature plays to those that want a arcade style hack and slasher.

They have a solid game here, but it’s not the best example of a sandbox and it’s not what EQ players were expecting. I think it will be popular for a time among the new generations.

I still have hope though, and if my doubts are unfounded I will gladly eat crow.

I have to apologize i havnt read a word of the article yet,

Wanted to comment on the screens and vids. The grapichs and art style look neat it is nicely done.

Just one problem. Where is my Everquest? it looks nothing like it. Not a tini tiny bit.

  • 9ineven9ineven Member UncommonPosts: 168

I'm sure I'm gonna have more fun with EQN Landmark than with the actual game, even though we don't know much about EQN yet.

I was expecting a non-realistic art style but not that much stylized. This will shock a lot of EQ fans.

If you watched the video reveal... The town building and smart mob(s) is about as sandbox as you can get. God... People just love to complain about everything. I'm disappointed in MMORPG fans... They get what they ask for, but complain about the manner in which it is being given to them. CRAZY.

SOE you have been forgiven for not having Erudites

Any mmo worth its salt should be like a good prostitute when it comes to its game world- One hell of a faker, and a damn good shaker!

Good thing they chose cartoony graphics. You can do so much more with it. I am very curious, how this wandering monster AI will alter every games gameplay. Building und disrupting stuff while parts of the world regenerate sound interesting as well. I don't care much for the classes we will get used to it. The only thing pissing me off is th F2P modell. Hopefully it won't be to broken. There is plenty of time to see, where they are heading. But totally different than expected. Sounds cool...

Well it's not really meant to be EQ. It's wildstar + gw2 + minecraft with the EQ brand to sell it.

As for combat, it's meant to be actiony - I'm looking at PS4 as a real possibility, even if not on consoles it'll be a bit neverwintery / gw2

Mixing classes always always always devolves into "this is the best build for X" Luckily, if you play with laid back and cool people, they'll let you play what you want.

Yeah I'm with you on warframe.

I doubt it's going to be destructible for a long time. I'm thinking it's quick build and break. And the "healing" time will be fast enough so that ruining an area will be a futile effort.

Yeah, not really a sandbox. But it seems fun.

they not given 1 single fuck about telling the people who like to pvp anything not fare.
  • kingotnwkingotnw Member UncommonPosts: 103
...and thank you SOE for not showing me any clicky quest churning crap. I'm so over that whole idea. If they just pulled that out of the game all together I would be happy with it. That actual reveal video proved to me that, even though I haven't seen it, I feel like they are going to do something new with the independent quest system and I have faith in them.

I dont like the weapon skills things ala gw2

Everything else seems really good, cant wait to explore the depths

Telegraphing and weapon skills, I had the same thoughts.  I'd rather see a more naturally occurring telegraph system, eg. the ground in certain areas shifts and slides up and down for some type of attack coming from the ground or, say for a water based attack, some mist starts to be pulled into the target area and puddles start to form and then boom.

For weapon skills, I really hope it is not like gw2's system.  I sure hope you can learn new techniques from npcs in the world or through some type of learning system and are not basically stuck with some very small set of abilities from the get go alo gw2.  That system just left nothing to push towards for me, and made the combat stagnant after a bit since once you had those it was basically the same thing over and over.

Overall I like a lot of the ideas and concepts that were shown, and if they can pull them off I think the game will be very interesting to play.

As predicted a great groan was heard.

EQN players came face to face with their game.

Expectations were popped and reality will finally settle in.

To those who did enjoy what you saw. Kudos.

As for me? It looked good. Like any politician there is many promises being made. Lets see if they are kept.

Game looks exactly like Wildstar. To the telegraphs and giant robots.

    Final thought.

There will never be an MMO to please EVERY audience.

MMORPG Gamers/Developers need a reality check!

  • Bluefear77Bluefear77 Member UncommonPosts: 112

I love the idea of releasing Landmark before EQN is released. This will give guilds the opportunity to build castles, towns, homes. How long those castles and towns will last will depend on the guilds strength. Sounds like so much fun.

When Neverwinter was released I really thought it lacked content. I thought this could have been avoided if they had released the Foundry several months before the game. Then players would have been able to create content and thus solve this problem. I think Landmark being released before EQN is going to add so much great content to the game. I believe player added content is usually more interesting and creative than content from the developers anyway.

It sounds like EQN has so many systems in place which will add longevity to the game: player created content, 40 classes, ever-changing world, and a permanently changing world. Most MMO's released have such a short lifespan, but with all of the systems of EQN I don't think this will be a problem.

People complaining about "nothing new here," you have to be kidding me. Have you made that claim so many times before that you just repeat it without actually thinking about it. If EQN has all of the systems promised it will be revolutionary.

I'm not in love with the art direction. I prefer games with more realism, but this isn't a deal breaker for me.

Truthfully, I don't think I could be more excited. There is so much to look forward to!
