Gameplay isn't one important part of a game, it is the game. Skyrim with WoW's graphics would still be Skyrim. You can try to argue that all you want, but it's not going to change the fact (yes, actual fact) that graphics in no way, shape, or form are more important or even as important as gameplay.
lol well I wouldn't play skyrim with WoW's art design. At all.
Yet I have over 843 hours in Skyrim proper.
Looking at WoW's world is just too annoying for my senses. I started a character at WoW's launch and couldn't get it past the teens,. Now, years later I think it's in the early 30's. The world and general art design always tires me and kills it.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
There is nothing "messed up" with wanting or not wanting to play games with a certain art style. I'm not really into Van Gogh but I love Monet; does that make me "messed up?" What's messed up is somebody forcing their opinion on others (i.e. "There's something messed up about you because you prefer not to play games that have childish, exaggerated visuals!").
Gameplay is an important part of a game, not the important part.
Personally I like a sense of immersion when I play a game--especially an MMO--and I just can't get that with cartoony graphics. I can't imagine myself being a cartoon. If you think that makes me "messed up," you have more issues than I do.
Totally comparing two different things
Paintings are specifically about the vizualisation, and thats ALL they are about. Comparing styles of two different paintings is 100% legitimate because that is the primary focus in a painting.
Games primary focus is gameplay. Not wanting to play a game because of artistic style means that you couldn't care less if the game was fundamentally broken or literally the BEST game ever in existence, You will not play it because it doesn't look good.
You are completely entitled to your opinion and you are entitled to value one aspect over another, but if the make or break deal for you is how the game LOOKS, then you void any legitimacy in having any serious discussion about the merits of any game
I used to play WoW and a bunch of my friends played EQ2 and refused to try WoW because they said it was too cartoony. Looks like those guys will be sticking with EQ2.
I like the EQNext art style
If in 1982 we played with the current mentality, we would have burned down all the pac man games since the red ghost was clearly OP. Instead we just got better at the game.
