You can still employ the trinity style gameplay if you wish.  But if you can't find a dedicated healer isn't it nice that you might have a character that can add healing to his action bar?  So you can keep playing the game rather then sitting around waiting for someone to reply.

I listened to the class Q&A panel and playing a healer is OUT OF THE QUESTION..  One gent already asked them directly about tanking and healing, and they shot them down..  They told him there are NO roles to play in the game.. They said it's impossible to play a dedicated healer or similar..

It's not Everquest and it wasn't even "cool" as a poll option was given but I'll probably still play it. I've got really tired of quest grind themeparks so why not dig some tunnels for a change? Art style, while I don't like it, isn't a dealbreaker for me but too many similarities with GW2 can be.

The trade off is your identity. Your character is really just a multi-tool at that point and does not have a static set of skills. The utility is undeniable and handy, but the sacrifice is the archetype, which has that Jungian appeal.

Maybe it wont be like that and the sum of your talents will be your identity, but the "Superman Phone Booth" as someone put it does not lend itself to that. If I am a warrior who learned some magic then I am that, i dont have to change my clothes to access my knowledge. The RIFT system is flawed and should not be used imo.

From what I heard in the Q&A, yes you do have to change your clothes.. YOUR starting class might of been warrior, and while adventuring you unlocked "Mage".. Great.. but if you wish to use your NEW learned magic you must wear CLOTH to be AKA Mage.. You can NOT be a Warrior wearing plate casting fireballs.....

EDIT: one gent in the audience actually brought up the "switching" out of gear as you change roles.. and the devs told him they have things planned for that..   Probably like a one button click similar to WoW's switching talent trees..

Actually what they said was your Armor and Weapon are tied to your base character class.  They also said that you don't have to multi-class.  You may need to watch the Class Panel video again.

What do you consider opinion?  What does how you swing you sword have to do with the Everquest lore?  What did you get from the class panel?  It was pretty clear that the trinity is still there if you want to employ that strategy.  Anything else about strategy hasn't been released yet and is being reserved for future updates.

Me and my wife have played eq and eq2 for years it is her favorite game  bought every expansion for eq 2 and the first 5 years of eq   . Now for the last few months all we talked about was the next eq  .. the day before the big show on aug 2 she almost took the day off work I even got no sleep from returning home for work wait for the 3pm  est time.. then the news and the betrayal .. the people we thought would never  turn eq into a wow clone decided to turn it into a gw2 clone... should have known it was bad when the first 20 min was a dumb sand box art show.  I download a few vids off youtube for my wife to see and her reaction was ha  that's a joke right.. nope   when she sat there watching the human face animation she said what now we have eq Disney  .. some who that was funny and not

this maybe the first eq game we pass on will keep watching and will play final fantasy  arr  until or make it the new mmo..

p.s. maybe like they did fable the journey for the kiddies , just maybe we will here eq3 in being made for mmo players..we can wish...

I heard GW2 has the longevity of a justin bieber song ^-^

You never played Old EQ if you think when we say the number of buttons spoil longevity . Longevity in a mmo will only happen if you have a reason to come back to the game. If you make combat fast paced with little to no consequences for your actions then ever time you log in it becomes same old same old. Now slow down combat and give use lots of ways to get it right or mess it up ever time we log in it is different. It all so gives us that want to better ourselfs and do the same encounters in different ways till we mastered it.

It's been like this for many players over the last year or so since the rise of more action combat.  Sad that people refuse to adapt.

Random Forum Poster: I want an MMO that is different, original and fun.

Me: So you want something like EQN

Them: Nah dude, I want a Holy Trinity, Tab Target combat, Instanced Raiding, and Rigid classes.

    Me: Double Facepalm.

Look ,Everquest IP is hardly Lord of the Rings or Star Wars.

Everquest Lore was created for the game itself, and although it is important, people are attached to Everquest because the wonderful adventures they played and the great friends they made in the game, thanks to the game mechanics.

EVERQUEST IS ABOUT THE GAMEPLAY, and not so much about the Lore, sorry to disappoint you.

Oh and by the way the Lore is not right either (See Firiona Vie)

LOL you know a few months ago we heard blizzard went back and are redoing titan . Maybe they got a sneak peak at eqnext and said wow (sorry could not pass on it)   where we really going to make a gw2 clone.. I have an ideal since they are not lets make the next eq game ... you never know titan the new eq ?!?!
  • ComanComan Member UncommonPosts: 2,178

EQ1 + expansions are still online and playable

    EQ2 + expensions same

Why would they want to make an other game in the same line? The only thing that would happen is that these two game complety die out. I understand they take a different direction.

Blizzard already did the "new EQ" once... it's called World of Warcraft, and was released in Nov. 2004.

indeed and apperently people call GW2 a wow clone.

So if EQNext is a GW2 clone

    GW2 is a WoW clone

    WoW is a EQ clone

then I would say EQNext is a Everquest

    • Rogue's Hour, by Scott Ciencin (October 2004)
    • Ocean of Tears, by Stewart Wieck (October 2005)

With is a good thing. Both EQ1 and EQ2 is still being expended. You know how hard it would be to expend both games while having them stick to the same lore. It's not even something new either. Comics books pretty often have a lore reboot and just call it multi-verse.

I'm a comic reader-- I'm so weary of all the reboots lol

    on a personal note,

I bought the console action game, Champions of Norrath

I bought the stupid RTS game, Lords of Everquest

I bought weak D20 system, EQ the RPG

I have seen EQ in many flavors and EQN is an EQ game to me

If I am not wrong it was not a reboot but a timeline shift from the date eq2 came out hard to keep making  eq expansion if you are going to destroy most of the world .. not a whole reboot like to turn FV into a brat child .. we will have a good chance to see her wearing  a item store t-shirt saying team vampire ...Lucan D`Lere will have Team werewolf , then the two will get nuts and start to date .. yep fun time to come

It is how SOE branches out. MMO players will not make much of a fuss if Everquest is to make a console game, board game and whatsoever, since it is not what the gamers desire.

Creating a new mmo that is based on Everquest will be scrutinized heavily by current EQ players.

The possibility of the universe collapsing into a singularity is higher than the birth of a perfect MMORPG.
