The rework female looks more natural (not essentially beautiful), yet one look can still tell it is a "cartoon" character.
Of course, this is MY OPINION. The hostility here is strong.
I like both, much better in my opinion. Less Disney/WoW/Free Realms and more mature and believable.
Don't get me wrong, I play Free Realms sometimes, but I could never take it seriously for "adventure" or "a place to settle" no matter what the gameplay would be. It just looks like a sugar shock snack in between that constantly reminds me that it is ... fake. Adventure/home is where I forget I tinker with an artificial stage. This doesn't mean it has to be realistic, I prefer stylized actually (less chance of flaws to stick out like a sore tooth) and I know this simplified art frees tons of resources for "voxel" calculation and interactive things.
But if stylized goes the way of what the current char models are like, something has gone seriously wrong in my opinion.
Played: Pretty much any fantasy MMO, some did not even make it to release ... Favorites: UO, EQ2, Vanguard, Wurm Online, Salem, ESO, Creativerse Playing: ESO, Creativerse, Guild Wars 2 Anticipating: (sigh) ... maybe Ashes of Creation
I wouldn't mind of they added options during character creation to to tame down the over-exagerated parts. If a player wanted that look they could have it but a player that wanted a more normally proportioned character could have that too.
Why are people so concerned about realistic graphics looking outdated? Half Life 2 is nine years old and still looks great. There's probably a limit to how much graphics can improve anyway so I don't imagine a game would look considerably different a few years from now.
The environments are gorgeous and forgelight looks impressive so far, but I'm not a fan of some of the art style. It looks like they're trying to attract soccer mom Sally and all her friends. I really hope those character models are just prototypes.
I think what most people in this thread have eluded to, is the "Aesthetics" are not pleasing. Most relate high detailed graphics to a more realistic world. I have played AoC on and off for years and it was amazingly detailed for its era, even by todays standards I think it would be ranked in the top few of released games and TSW which I also play blows that away with its detail and emersion.
Aesthetically early AoC had an awesome beginner area and whilst the detail remained the same through the rest of the game some zones and particularly raid instances felt very empty. Aesthetically there just wasn't enough stuff in the zones/ instances, but later expansions have noticeably improved this, and the amount of "stuff" and detail in TSW is phenomenal. What lets TSW down is its just another "Themepark' grind fest, but it looks awesome and is fun
I had high hopes that EQN could bring the level of TSW into a sandbox with familiar settings and lore. but that is not the "Style" direction they are taking, more like bringing a modernised "graphical enhanced' WoW into a sandbox.

I know right.. Age of Conan is 5 years old now and its still one of the best looking MMORPGs on the market.
I am not a big fan of the art style SOE have gone with.. but i might be able to put up with it if the rest of the game turns out to be good. It all hangs on the PVP system and crafting system for me.

Play for fun. Play to win. Play for perfection. Play with friends. Play in another world. Why do you play?
