Since its obvious to me that EQN will not be released before somewhere in 2015 i gave other games some attention. On my nice spot in the shadow near our pool, i abused my ipad to browse stuff about TESO. And it got my wondering, espescially after watching all these videos of RatzCast that neatly explain all known features of the game. I can only advise people with some time at their hands to watch all of them oldest first.
http://www.youtube.com/user/RatzCast/videos
Since i love games with a darker more dreery background that feel more Epic and less like a game, the story and lore of tamriel seem spot on to sattisfy that part. And as a player that loves discovery and good combat in an immersive world, i could seriously not find that much irritators with this game. To me it now feels like the perfect blend of an Elder scrolls game and an MMO.
There are absolutely no No-Go items with this game, and only a few (i would like to see that improved things) While people are complaining about instancing, phasing and no raids, they obviously missed some information. Because next to instancing, this game will have open world dungeons, open world bosses and dynamic stuff going in the open world. But there are also so called adventures, which require up to 24 people in PvE. It feels like AI in MMOs got to a new hight.
PvP will be closest to DAoC so far (closer then GW2) with the Imperial city being a special place in the center and i asume taking the place and function of Darkness falls in DAoC.
So far i could only say :
Annimations
Death pennalty (to easy)
Mob leashes and mobs ignoring other players.
Have some room for improvement..
Thats not much, so why in heavens name do i get that feeling that everyone is dissapointed with the direction this game takes?
I will list what other things come up in the post downhere that are actually worth mentioning as shortcommings..
- Only the console version will have build in Voicechat.
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

Strangely I am very turned off by the immersion breaking glowing character outlines. If this is optional I'll certainly give it a try.
anything known about the businessmodel yet? B2P I hope?
For me.....
-sometime in 2014 launch
-ongoing series of game development decisions I do not agree with.....that,for me,call into question the vision expressed by it's producer at its introduction
net net for me..."nothing to see here...moving along"

In my case there's no major item that has reduced my interest in this title, more of a sum of the little things that I've read about it along the way that has turned me off of it somewhat.
True, the PVP system sounds pretty good, which is one of the few reasons I'm still following it, but there's been some others that makes me leary of this MMO, still seems too much like more of a standard theme park title rather than a new, more open world game experience which is more what I'm looking for.
Perhaps I'm wrong about it, once it becomes available to try in open beta, and the NDA is fully brought down I'll be able to make a better determination whether this is a game for me.
For now it sits at about a 7 in my personal hype meter, which these days isn't enough to draw me to it.
We'll see.

What's there to talk about that we haven't already talked about?
Without new information there really isn't much more to say.
Even with the Quakecon video there still isn't a huge amount to say.
We haven't seen how pvp will work, we know little of guilds, We don't know about adventure zones heck, we don't know a lot.
so it's probably better that they pushed back the release date.

Well i saw copy of Morrowind (not morrowing like you said) and i am very pleased to see one game going in to realistic direction, we saw that disaster with EQN and how much hatred was present on twitch tv

While some people don't like the stylized look, it takes more than pretty graphics to make a good game (See: TERA)

seeing how both games actually require you to press a max of 8 buttons ingame.....
all i have to add here is... yea... nice console bullshit
"I'll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up! Not me!"
Well, maybe its better this way...
Please everyone close your eyes for this game, stop hyping it just to find out that at release the game exactly became what the developers promissed, an MMO with the depth of a single player MMo, the perfect mix between an edlerscroll game and an online community.
I bet noboddy even took the time to see some of those videos.. Those guy are pretty good at explaining how things will work..
For me it really looks like there finally will be an Epic gaming world thats immersive, has a lot of character depth and is a fun place to be..
I feel sad for most of you, as no MMo ever will be good enough to satisfy you, on top of that most of you probably havent figured out what things actually attract you in MMOs. All thos people not playing games because they dont like one or two little features is so sad. And when they then finally buy the game all they want to proove to themselves ; I told you so...

Reading about EQN made me realise that I forgot where I put my hypemeter. I still haven't found it. Might have shoved it up some devs behind at some point, I don't know. Anyway, nowadays I skip hype and wait for one of those public 'betas' to judge a game.
So far what I read about ESO wasn't that interesting to me overall. It still isn't a big NO, so they could still surprise me at release. Funny, how I forgot the details about why I lost track of this upcoming title.
I think that TESO is just following the pattern of most games that come out these days. I follow the hype rankings on the Game List here at mmorpg.com just about daily and over the past few years I've seen a few patterns emerge:
- The first few days after a new title is released it usually goes up in rank to the top 5 rated/hyped games, only to plummet a few days later. (unless it's a gem that sticks around)
- Games like EQ Next which are announced and hyped before having any footage and/or real info released always take the #1 spot until people realize it's not going to be their dream mmorpg come true.
- Good games tend to fall down on the hype meter until a few months before they are released, then they slowly start to climb again. Case in point: Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn was down next to TESO and Wildstar a few days ago and is now climbing higher as we approach release.
- As a whole, mmo gamers are very cynical because we have seen so many crappy games come and go. When it comes to a franchise such as The Elder Scrolls, many of us have played and loved these games in their single player formats but are both concerned and excited at what the switch to an mmo format means.
Overall, I think that as this game comes closer to release we'll see it's hype rankings go up. I think it's going to take a lot of people watching videos and realizing that it is an actual Elder Scrolls game and not just an attempt at an mmorpg port of a console game. This game being available on xbox One and PS4 is no different than Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim having console ports, so I don't quite understand the logic of complaining about that part.
Regardless, it will be interesting to watch how this game's hype ebbs and flows and how the development comes along.
Yeah, I think you raised some great points, what they've shown me so far hasn't grabbed my attention, and I'm really waiting for more info on some of the features you mention before deciding to get excited for this title.
Actually despite what the OP thinks, I'm quite clear what I'm looking for in a new MMO title and equally clear what I would prefer to avoid. So far TESO doesn't have a lot of the former, and clearly seems to have some of the latter.

Latest video didn't look too bad, but there are 2 major things I can't digest.
1) It is a Multiplayer game not a real MMO, by devs admission.
2) There is no major Sandbox element, I don't think the Themepark category fits well the TES IP (my personal opinion)
As a TES fan I will buy it, but I don't expect to play it for too long (I did the same with SWTOR and GW2)
Whats a Multiplayer RPG thats not an MMO.... yes there is instancing and phasing, but most of the game world is open world. It even has open world dungeons.. People allways bend the words of developers to prrove what they want to proove and take those words totally out of the context it was said in..
The last sandbox (and actually the first sandbox game ever created) was Daggerfall, after that it became much much more small scale and story related content. And TESO is more open world and freedom then Skyrim was...
Poeple need to step back a little and stop treating every MMO thats not totally according to their book like a failure. Just start accepting every game you play as a new experience and just accept that experience.. While everyone talks about the failures of MMOs these past years i am still having fun playing most of them from time to time.
These developers are really pushed in having to sattisfy both the elder scrolls crowd and the MMO crowd. And they are doing a great job so.. but whenever they try to explane how true the game is to an ES game, the MMO crowd yells.. told you so its just an online elder scrolls game and not an MMO.
And whenever they try to explain something to an MMO player, the Elder scrolls crowd starts yelling, see told you so its just another WoW.
I think i safely can assume now based on my knowledge and insight from the gaming industry that they are making a perfect blend of he two where almost everyone can find the stuff they love from their genre and get some great stuff from the other genre added for free.

I agree with 2 though I know people would argue that TES games are not sandboxes.
As far as "1" goes, they did say that but they also said that the reason they said that was so that non-mmo players, or more to the point "Elder Scrolls players" wouldn't be turned off by the game.
So "yes" it's an mmo but players who are not used to mmo's will find game play elements to relate to.
