you're right it is dumb.
its dumb because none of the groups you listed are fighting for basic human rights. none of the groups you listed are still hesitant to display public affection in certain parts of our country for fear of physical reprisal against them.
how many straight people or church going folks fear kissing in public or are fighting tooth and nail for the law to change on marriage equality.
what you are describing is dumb because the balance of inequity most certainly does not lean in the direction of sexually straight churchgoers in america.

in league of legends u can get banned for cursing
calling someone a fag is considered hate speech, if you said it in a public school you could be suspended for a few days or even expelled
while i personally have no problem with it, overall, using the word fag as a joke desensitizes people overall, just like calling women bitches and i think it overall has a negative effect on society which is why some can view your ban as being appropriate despite the fact that you weren't targeting a specific person in particular
whether or not SE should be doing that is another matter too but you shouldn't feel like your ban was completely unwarranted
You were banned because you broke the policy. Never ever bring real world issues into a MMO, it goes against policies of the game, and on this website for that matter and it disrupts the gaming community. Light joke or not, rules are rules.

May seem very complicated but when you look at it it can be sum up to 1 word : Respect.
Church goers..............aren't those the guys that preach love but have a book that directly tells them to hate certain groups of people.

Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
The only group I listed was straight people, as "church goers" are in that category too.
As for how many are fighting for basic rights?! Hundreds of THOUSANDS..... have you ever heard of any other type of bigotry?! I know of some people who, currently, are fighting for the right to simply not be shot in the street and defamed after death, simply because they look different. Or those who are looked over and are homeless and in some cases hunted, simply because they crossed a boarder...
Sorry if your problems aren't FIRST on the To Do list. I'm ALL for equal rights, I hope we can ACTUALLY start giving those out Soon. And not just to whoever has the microphone at the moment.
Well OP, for one, they are private forums and private business. They can exclude whoever they want. Two, it is near impossible to ascertain the true meaning of someone's words on the internet so most of the time it is taken literally (we cannot see your facial expression, hear tonal changes, etc...). As has been stated here, you have to be careful with your words. Hopefully this is a lesson learned. I am pretty sure most of us have been there at some point (or will be).

I'm gay and although I'm not offended by the joke, most would be offended when using the word "Fag" jokingly or not. Just like any black person would be offended using the "N" word....in a joke or not. Gamers use "Fag" so commonly now that they dont even realize anymore that its offending....it's a normal part of their trash talk language. There is a big gay community in FFXIV, I dont know why anyone would assume using the word Fag is going to fly, especially with the moderators.
I understand you support what they are asking for and didnt mean it in a demeaning way, but people need to watch what they say. Just because it doesnt have any importance to who you are, doesnt mean it wont offend or hurt someone else reading it. And no, I dont think they are overreacting to the seemingly simple three letter word, it has a much more serious and stronger meaning to the gay community that most dont seem to understand, just like the "N" word still has such a strong meaning to blacks. I'm white, the "n" word means nothing to me personally....but I understand why its important to not use it, and I'm respectful of that.....so should the word "fag".

The word "fag" has been used to identify "cigarette" in England for centuries("lighting a fag" or "pass me the fag"). one the other hand the word "faggot" has been used in England to describe annoying old people or generally very annoying people, even now they use those words openly(or at least in manchester where my uncle lives, i grew up learning english from Hollywood movies and it took me quite a while to stomach these words when my uncle used them day to day). problem here was the north american community, these words "faggot" and "fag" are explicitly used here as slang toward homosexuals(i don't understand why at all). but anyways slang in one country is common word word in another, people just have to realize on which country they are.

We ask alot of things from SE to be implemented lol wouldn't of thought this would be overblown. Friendship links like friendship items or tags on jewellery would be cool for all genders to enjoy. But straight marriage is alot more conventional especially in asian cultures and there will be people from all different ages playing this game. I dont think children or young teens parent's will appreciate exposure to same sex relationships as its not really the norm in many countries,
traditions or culures. Thats how I feel about it!

you were given to discuss why same sex marriage wasn't/shouldn't be allowed.. not to make fun of those 'people'.
best reason i've seen in thread was that some culture/country doesn't allow.. game may be rejected or rated to certain crowd... which may involve accessibility of game for others.

I think, as others have stated already, words are very powerful and there are some that simply should not be used any more imo.
I actually switched servers while trying out tera, because there were some players who used very offensive language in general chat (e.g. 'fag', and nazi related words). I reported them (as, i am sure, others did) but nothing happened...

The world has gone to Hell with all this PC BS. You can't speak or crack a joke without someone being upset! What a sad little world we live in.
One of the worse parts is that all these "offended" people are the worst white knights you can get, they "demand" equal rights, free speech and respect, and yet fail to see that by doing so they are abusing the very ones they are demanding it from.
It's time to revert back to one of my old, favourite jokes... A drunk guy says to a policeman "If I call you a **** ****ing *******!" would you arrest me? To which the cop says "Yes!", the drunk then says "What if I think it?!?!" *boom, boom*.
