Here's a comment i found on the comments section of an article about FF XIV ARR, which may or may not clear some doubt for the FF XIV 1.0 Collector's Edition owners.
" I've already spoken with SE about this. They stated that Final Fantasy XIV: CE owners will get grandfathered in to include the digital downloads and all bonuses that come WITH purchasing the Collector's Edition of FFXIV: ARR CE, INCLUDING Early Access (which was my main concern). You just don't get the cool wing-dings with purchasing the physical."

This guy's statement may or may not be true.
This is most logical and I always believed it will be this way up until somebody (a very rude individual) posted this in another topic on this issue:
Many thanks for posting this, created an account and bought 2 keys. Both arrived within a few minutes of payment and just trying to access the preorder site now but it seems under heavy load, will report how it goes once ive entered the codes.
Once again thanks!
Edit: Just added keys to the preoder site and worked fine. It may come up with an error that there was a problem, if so check your profile at the top right on the page and there you can see if its registered.

Thanks! It does say that I have registered FFXIV today but I am not 100% sure that this account is connected directly to my FFXIV account since it doesn't show my old FFXIV and FFXI registered services there...
Any idea how to "link" them together?

Im in the same boat as you Sudo. I would assume since you have to login with your SE account it will just check to see if you have entered a code, if so you will have access to the servers, if not you wont.
Ive tried logging into my square enix acccount where you manage your FFXI/FFXIV accounts (subscription etc) and there is no mention of early access there. Like i said before, i would assume as long as its showing up on the preorder site you should be good to go but keep checking the preorder site and read the comments. Only thing i can suggest atm. If i find anything else out ill post it here.
g2play code still not working. "There was a problem. Please try again later"
edit: also not showing on square enix, my profile
just did the same, cant stand not knowing if im in or not, but mine worked though, and says registered, but i had to press teh reddem code once every 30 secs a few times until it worked
My code wouldn't work on the NA site http://preorder.na.finalfantasyxiv.com/ so I instead tried the EU site http://preorder.eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/ and though I did get a "There was a problem" error message the game did appear in my profile. Could have just been a delay but I recommend trying the code on the EU site in any case.

I believe they are linked: same email correct? I changed the password on one account and it changed it for both. So my guess is they are linked.
Just a quick update for people who tried to activate their code while the servers were under heavy load.
You will need to enter your code again on the links on this thread until you get a congratulations page, you will then get an additional code that you can enter into your SE account or once you first start the game on early access. The code that you are given is for the mog cap and cait sith minion.
Once you have done that you are sorted for early access!
I entered the code i bought from the game site you listwd, and i got the code through the na.preorder site.
Problem is that it states I cannot use the code due to it being from a different region.
Then I see under my account that I have attached FFXIV to my account. I am not sure if that is good though, because it shows 8/21 as the date. I legacy... so I would expect it to show the game having been there a long time ago. I hope it didnt mess up my existing account in any way.
I don't know what the solution would be but im sure you're not alone in this as i have seen similar posts on SE forums from people who pre ordered normally.
On g2play site there's a link in your order which tells you where to introduce your code which links to the NA pre order site. Even though i am from Europe everything worked fine for me.
EDIT: Just so there is no confusion, i have registered my code on the EU pre order site.

Dude, if you are legacy you literally have to do nothing.

A lot of people I see are confusing "Legacy" status. Legacy does NOT mean that you purchased 1.0 and still have that account info. You only got Legacy status if you paid 90 days of game time towards the end, right before 1.0 shut down the servers. You do NOT get Legacy status just for owning 1.0.
I would love to get a pre-order key for NA version. I own 1.0 so I can play on the 27th BUT I'd really like the pre-order bonuses. I think if you pre-ordered 1.0 you should get ARR's pre-order bonuses also.
3. Check email for preorder code that arrived 32 milliseconds after you ordered.
4. Follow the emails instructions
5. Log back into amazon and cancel order
Voila you have Early access
Better to find a solution for honest decent folk. The method you suggest seems a little...dishonest.
Not a little, it is very dishonest. Plus it won't work anymore.
And for the website selling early access keys, I don't see how they are possibly doing it legally. They probably bought a bunch of amazon orders and canceled just like suggested above.
Does it really matter if its a EU or NA key as they are not separate clients to download or anything. Couldnt you register a EU key then just select a NA server?

If you have an EU account you have to use an EU key. But yeah after that you can pretty much play on any server you want. The account differences are probably payment related. Euro's and USD's don't have the same value.

I don't know but I can always say that a friend of mine pre ordered and decided to not use the early access key and hand it to me instead.
