Worth getting the game after upgrade?

Ive been thinking about getting swg lately, but I've been hearing a lot of bad stuff about this upgrade thing and I was wondering if its still worth getting the game?

Well I can only speak to the Doc profession.

If you dont enjoy combat dont be a Doc.

However if you like to heal during combat and dont mind dying a lot go for it.

Sorry about the negative answer but I am so upset with what they did to the Doc profession.

IMHO yes definitely worth getting. Even if you are not a fan of the ground game, the space game alone is worth having - and no one has complained about THAT. And if this is the first time you play SWG, you wont "feel" many of the problems of change between old and new system that the veterans are talking about.

At the moment SWG is buggy after the HUGE patch (pushed live too early) and the expansion scheduled for Friday. And as you already have seen opinions are divided about the combat revamp. But they corrected more bugs in 2005 than in the 18 months before it, so I think this will work.

I recommend you wait for the next free trial and then take a look for yourselves. Or you pick up the Total experience package which is, even if you dont play it for much longer than the first month, great value for money.

You can also join us here http://www.impslave.com/forum2/index.php   for more info and we would be happy to answer your questions. Several of the readers of MMORPG here have joined me on Naritus for a look see ... most also new to SWG like you. They may be the best people to ask what you can expect as a new player.

    Have fun

If your coming into the game new.. yes. it's and easy game to learn and understand. If you love star wars, you will love this game. There is a lot of content, missions, and quests, given by famous characters.  In my opinion, I feel this is the best game when it comes to content and attention to detail.  A sense of community stands out in my mind also.  Being new, you will have everything going for you.  As a veteran, I am re-learning the game.  Try it out, get involved with the progressing civil war.  Bottom line, it's all about having fun, and if your a star wars fan, you will like it.

Like someone else said, since you will be new, you won't understand why there are some of the complaints. If you are used to playing games like WoW, EQ etc. you might even find it somewhat similar.

The biggest thing you will notice is the massive amount of bugs and inbalances that will go unfixed for long periods of times. That's if they ever get fixed. SoE doesn't take a lot of time and care to fully test their "patches", expansions and new content before sending it to live. They also enjoy swinging their huge nerf bat around. Or through their lack of testing, something becomes more powerful than originally intended and they then will nerf it out of existance.

If you want to play a continuously broken game, you will enjoy SWG.

And even with the problems SWG has sometimes its STILL an insanely complex and vast game that attracts one of the best communities in the genre. 2 years have come and gone .. and there is still so much to do, explore or kill :-)

    Have fun

I wish they would have started out with this kind of combat at release. You have to realize that people always get used to a buggy system, that's why everybody became certain professions for a while, but when a Master get's his profession nerfed, they usually get frustrated, quit, and come to the boards and complain about how bad it sucks. Yet often times, it's for the betterment of the game, and they still get pissed that they are no longer the L33te$t guy around. One of these days, there will be a MMORPG that comes to us more or less balanced, and fun... someday...

All Cmbat is Crap, u have to Master 2 Elie Proffessions plus a Novive.
To just Make an Elite Proffession now takes 1Million Xp not includeing the other Crappy skills we didnt need before.image

how kind of you to decide peoples personal choices on their recreation time makes them pathetic because of WHAT they do in a computer game. And deciding to try to be a jedi in an era in the SW timeline where there were only TWO doesn't make you pathetic?

The doctor profession is FAR from dead, I think you need to actually engage some creative thinking here. I beleive what your tring to say the days of sitting your backside in coronet and selling BUFFS are gone, doctors are doing just fine, as a combat class now, and when they finish balancing him, probably the best healer in the game. I am sorry you feel that you had to get god buffs for a doctor to be worth while.

You don't have to master 2 elite classes, no one is making you, and missions are geared towards your level so you can always find something to kill, unfortunately however going out in the wilds to gain experience without missions right now is very lacking however.

Perhaps you should elaborate on what crappy skills you had to take now that you didnt before, because I see very few issues with the changes in the skill tree. I think you just hate that its different then what it was more then you actually have found a real flaw in the system. I was a TK before the CU, I was miserable after, but guess what? They gave us /respec! So now I am a Master CM / Commando and I am loving it, far more fun of a class then TK ever was for me. I suggest you try to some different professions til you find one that you enjoy again and quit trying to hate it.

Very true and I agree. I do not agree with the level system they attached to the whole thing but I have far less issue with the new system then many. I am having fun in the game and there are alot of people online right now trying out the new system, so its been fun for me.

I however do understand alot of the LEGITIMATE complaints about the new system and I reall HOPE Sony does address them and work them out with time. My hugest beef with the whole thing is me paying to beta test it honestly. The double experience week isn't feeling so warm and fuzzy when every mission objective I get too dissapears as I approach it.

2 expansions now have caused the players pain in regards to the combat system. The first holding up the CU because Sony said they needed more time to get the CU done PROPERLY, so everyone waited til after JTL for them to get to it, everyone was excited. And now after they couldn't get the CU out in a timely and finished fashion before the next movie released we have been pressed into yet another beta like combat system that we are paying for. I think Sony needs to learn from this and promise no more expansions til we get this thing right and people are happy, I think that would go miles with the community right now.

I would advice waiting for the inevitable '14 Day Free Trial'. There are too many issues with the Combat Upgrade, which may unfairly turn you off to what otherwise is a fun game.

Don't even think about buying it right now. Besides the fact that the CU has made the live game into 1 big BETA for months to come there just aren't enough people left to make it fun even if you do like the sound of the new system. Some of us stay with it just because we have so much time invested in it already. Realistically though we can't ignore how empty the servers have become lately. Hopefully they'll consolidate the remaining player to fewer servers within a couple months rather than just shutting down the game entirely. Wait for that to happen before locking yourself into something that has no hope of suviving if they don't do that.

Quite, it's sad to see really. Until the rollback I was pretty confident that Bloodfin would be in good shape afterwards. To the point I tried to organize others in my crafting profession to weather the short term economic upheavals that were expected. Most of those opposed to a lot of what we were seeing on TC were optomistic the big things could have been fixed in time for May 5th and indicated they'd live with the lesser bugs (as they have done all along). Then threads started getting deleted and people banned form the forums and game for exposing the relative-level damage multipliers or for no reason at all. 1 correspondent got canned and 2 others quit and it started to dawn on people that the major problems weren't bugs, it really was what SOE wanted to do. Then they launched even earlier for no other reason than so people would be too distracted trying to figure out the CU to notice that Guild Wars came out the next day. Now Coronet is a ghost town, all my RL friends are trying to agree on what game to move to, there's 1 other person left in my guild, the other 23 vendors in the mall I'm in are never going to get restocked, I get another 5-10 goodbye emails a day and haven't seen more than a few people on my friends list on even at peak times.

Please, it's quite obvious you have no clue what you're talking about. If I wanted Jedi now it would be as easy, if not easier, to get it. Because XP flies in a good group and NEWSFLASH people are grouping a LOT. My guild groups all the time. On the ground, in space, etc. We get insane xp (especially right now while it's doubled, but even without the doubling it would still be faster than in the old days).

Getting a Jedi isn't hard and you don't have to grind professions anymore, just convert xp to force points, which isn't that hard either. The part that takes the longest is waiting for the villiage to cycle, not getting xp. Please get a grip on reality. And, just a hint, it's SUPPOSED to be hard to get a Jedi. They're SUPPOSED to be rare.

Buffs are not the be-all-end-all of the Doc profession. And you're wrong. I get 175 minute (3 HOUR) buffs from both doc and entertainer now. Dunno what kind of math you're using, you must hang out with Bush or something. Using his fuzzy math?

And Elite Professions aren't all that hard to get either. Lord, I swar people are never happy.

"We hate having to teach players skills to get master"
"We hate having to get XP to get master"

Well just a clue: Getting master isn't free, so get over it.

And nobody here has it JUST for the space expansion. I played in Beta. The current system (yah that's right, the CU) is BETTER than the old system. I've played solid for almost a year now (didn't buy it after release) and the game is MUCH Better today than it was a year ago.

And in answer to the original question:
Yes, the game is VERY worth getting now. People group and hunt together but you're still perfectly capable of soloing as long as you're careful.

The people doing the whining and moaning are only complaining because they can't join a solo group and go take on groups of mobs that were designed for 30 people by themselves.

Hey Fadeus sorry man but your kinda a TOOL!!!  Have you even played this game post CU?  Let's just forget for the moment that vets got the shaft and all our hard work and effort has been tossed in the pooper and look at just the game.  Combat is now slow, generic animations, special moves in certain proffesions are still broken just like pre CU, confusing due to state indicators being so small, and also constantly looking at your tool bar to see if you have "cooled down" enough to attack again!  Let's look at bugs.  Lag is at an all time high on all server, and we have already had multiple servers taken down for emergency maintenence, oh but i forgot SOE's explanation of this and I QUOTE "there is no server lag on dantooine right now your lag is a client issue!"  Proffesions are still unbalanced, even more so now!  Proffesions were unbalanced pre-cu as well but proffesions being unbalanced was blown way out of proportion when in actuality it was the fact that most players were walking around with 80-90% base on their armors and had anywhere from 2600-3000 across their primary and secondary stats.  The new level system is horrible and will make grinding solo nearly impossible and grouping a must!  Anyone that has played the game long enough remebers what hunting parties were like back in the day.  You would spam for a half hour to get enough people to go take out some squills or voritors get your missions and 8 times out of 10 your group would fall apart before you got to your 3rd mission....hence the end of the hunting group!  Don't get me wrong if you were lucky enough to have enough friends on to form a decent group at any given time then sure group hunting could be fun!  Jedi got shafted worst of all they cannot group without gaining visibility and cannot solo anything worth their time in hunting!  Let's talk about these new animations, you have been ROOTED lmao this is ridiculous who ever heard of being rooted in any kind of Star Wars experience....oh but heres my personal favorite jumping on your speeder and the nuke going off on top of your head animation lol.....very star wars like.  Now lets look at the community, the crafters are hanging on by a thread and only the die hards remain trying to weather the storm.  Armorsmiths are irate that their beloved proffesion has been so dumbed down that any noob can pick it up and get the hang of it in a day or two.  Not to mention that the new system allows for very little difference between one AS's product and another AS's product!! and this pretty much apply's for all the crafting proffesions.  When was the last time you were in a cantina, remeber a few days ago when they were full of dancers, musicians, players, etc....now you'll fina maybe 1 or 2 if your lucky!  Why, you ask....I'll tell you because they aren't of any use anymore same with docs.  The reason you can't find any docs buffing anymore is because doc buffs are close to worthless and as far as their role in combat goes they aren't even good healers and will most likely die before they get a chance to heal you anyway!  OH and now my absolute personal favorite favorite.....I'VE PAYED 15$ A MONTH TO TEST A GOD DAMN BETA FOR 2 YEARS JUST TO HAVE THE SYSTEM I WAS TESTING YANKED AND A NEW EVEN MORE BUGGED SYSTEM PUT IN TO REPLACE IT THAT WILL TAKE 2+ MORE YEARS TO SORT OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!  So yes it is my opinion that you are a tool for even attempting to defend this abomination of programming called the CU and I would never suggest SWG or any SOE/lucasarts product to anyone!!!!!!!!TOOL

P.S.  UUUUMMMM I was kinda replying to a comment made on the first page that now that i go back and look at wasn't made by fadeus lol....I'm gonna go edit this now and please disregard the whole tool thing please lmao!  But the rest is good :)

CyberKaos, what server u on because ive been on most servers going around planets looking to see if ppl are truely playing and grouping with u few Noobs thats are left and fact is ur doing nothing but sitting around and doing nothing but picking ur noses.

And i know more of what i'm talking about than u do thats why at least 85% of the players have left and grouping doesnt get u that much Xp as i used to get that a fact.
