Are we truly to believe that the servers are really in the USA when the Maintenance is best suited for Japanense players times?
I find it unacceptable that during prime time the servers are down for Maintenance. I don't give a damn if it's a Japanense game, i paid american dollars to play this game on american severs, not japanese. For both latency etc..
Nonetheless this is the most inconvenient time for people who paid american dollars to play a game in America. You can't even mention anything negative on the official forums without the fanboy brigade denouncing it's a JAPANESE GAME.. So where on the box did it say, be aware this is a Japanese game?

Wow. How incredibly self important you are. You think SE is messing with you? They are a business, they want your money. Before you found this unacceptable, did you find out what kind of data center SE has for this? Is it in house? Is it hosted? Did they have to contract out to 3rd party vendors for temporary technicians based on those other companies availability? Did they have t ooperate within a time windo from the hardware vendor? Did they have to make use of scheduled maintenance windows from the data center itself? Would this maintenance interfere with other service agreements SE or this data center might have? Did they have to get reps onsite from the server OS and Apps? (Microsoft/Oracle etc etc)? You know there is a lot going on in Japan. There just may have been restrictive time frames they could operate from and thus requires them to be on a Japanese schedule.........you know...........in Japan.

When did it become acceptable to make and sale crap and for the consumer to keep demanding more of the same?
I grew up in a time when we took pride in what we made and worked damn hard to make sure it was the best it could be BEFORE we sold it.
God forbid we actually let a flawed or broken product get to the consumer, then we would do full recalls with full refunds and when the issue was fixed you would get your product back for huge discounts sometimes even free.
We cared about our reputation, we cared about our market share, we cared about word of mouth, we cared about future sales.
Now it's like nobody seems to care at all.. not the people making or selling crap products, not the consumer buying and defending crap products, not the consumer rights advocates suppose to protect us against crap products..

You know I went in to a McDonald's the other day to grab a soda.. it was flat and I was like hey sorry to bother ya but the soda came out flat think a tank is empty. The girl is like fuck you throw it away if you don't want it, then she turns her back on me and goes back to texting. I was like huh? I need to speak to the manager please.. she ignores me goes on texting. I yelled back to the guy flipping burgers I needed the manager. Almost 30 minutes later then manager comes out and is like " yea what?" I'm like I got a flat soda and would like a new one. The girl is like I said throw it away if you didnt want it. I was like no you said, " Fuck you throw it away if you don't want it. " The manager is like hey don't use that language in front of these kids or I will call the police. At that point I was like screw this and I walked out with the manager laughing with the girl.
Because of this I will NEVER spend another dollar in McDonalds ever again, but the sad part is they don't care. I honestly don't even think the McDonalds CEO cares, even if the company loses all its customers and goes bankrupt, he will still get his 50 million dollar bonus and golden parachute.
It is absolutely fucking stupid this path of destruction we are racing down.
Someone a little more enraged than me could have pulled out a gun and started killing people in that McDonalds and everyone would act all shocked and be like its so tragic and senseless we do not understand what would make people do something like that...

Bad experiences happen in life, they suck, people suck, you get shit on. Yeah it happens every day. It will happen tomorrow. It will happen when you drive that brand new car you just bought off the lot and the motor seizes so you cant get the car and they have to fix it and now you have a new car payment with no new car. It happens with minor and major purchases in life. Someone screws up and your whole experience is ruined. Whether it's a soda or something financed for years.

But here is where your analogy breaks down. McDonald's didn't give you a replacement. SE is compensating us and making restitution for the time lost. Bad shit happened and SE is making good on it. Seriously what do you want from them now?
Evidently they're scheduling it now so it doesn't fuck with us europeans and our main peak time - since everyone consistently bangs on about how europe has a larger playerbase than other places.

/sigh and this is why America can't have nice things anymore. To all the non-American posters, please let me remind you he does not in a LEAST bit represent my attitude or personality in regards to this issue as an American. I have been very patient and understanding in regards to the mistakes this humbled company has made (which they publicly and profusely apologized for and done their best to maintain open communication, cross-culture barriers etc. aside.)
This is like one of the moments where you have that one family member that constantly embarrasses you and you can't get away from it, all you can do is apologize for their actions and shyly grin and kind of hoping this person never actually belonged to you but sadly does. While I support people being able to complain about FFXIV launch I can't support this particular complaint.
If anything this patch is overdue and should of happened earlier at any time of day as soon as it was ready.
While it smarter to do regular maintenance at low population times it's not necessary to do so and emergency maintenance can happen at any time and should happen ASAP.
If this becomes a regular thing and disrupts the majority's playtime that's another matter but a possible one off like this ?Suck it up and be happy they are fixing major issues.
I've seen this complaint before on the official forums and to me if simply translates as Don't do maintenance when I want to play, do it when someone else somewhere else wants to play.
As a FFXI player from the UK I was used to their (SE's) maintenances hitting EU primetime. Typically they sought to do them in the middle of night Japanese time. This kinda worked for the US as the servers would be back up as, or shortly after, US workers were returning home.
In the UK these same maintenances started around 4/5pm. If it included an update we weren't playing that night. Maintenance might end around 9/10pm ish but trying to get the game to successfully DL the updates, with the update servers now getting hammered, meant that no, we weren't gonna get to play until next day.
When TSW launched they had maintenances most mornings EU time. However, this meant that for several days Aussies were out of luck.
Just be glad that SE is now in a position to do this maintence and, fingers crossed, we can see those log-in issues resolved that have marred an otherwise excellent game.
Think about it, nobody wants to die, there's rules to this game son, I'm justified.

To all the non-American posters please let me remind you that this guy represents only himself. Many of us love our country just like you love yours. We expect that when something is sold to us it will take our time zones into account, just as you would expect in your country. The multicultural apologists posting in this thread would be very quick to condemn the United States for not respecting other cultures around the world yet when another country does it to the United States, that is fine in their eyes, as exhibited in this thread.
The real issue here is that MMO companys need to start revolving their maintenance around whatever country that servers are set up for. That would solve the problem. Simply saying "well this is a Japanese game" or "this is an American game" is an excuse only the simple minded would use. If we were all on Japanese servers then that excuse would make sense but since we are not there is no logic to it.
All servers should have maintenance at off peak hours for whatever reason those servers are set up for. With that said, today's maintenance should have been done a week ago anyway. When a great number of people are being locked out of the game every day, there is little reason to worry about what time a maintenance happens. The game has been in a virtual down state since release for many anyway.

Also, Im pretty sure most people would prefer a little downtime to fix the login queue problem. Would you prefer for them to wait until you have finished playing? You should give them your phone number so they can check in with you when its alright for them to do their maintenance on their servers for their product which you use as per the terms and conditions which state they can do emergency maintenance when they like and server uptime is no guaranteed.

This reminded me of an incident in the phillippines...I was waiting in a long line at the airport to get pass immigration and an AMERICAN bypassed the whole crowd of ppl waiting in line and demanded the immigration officer at the window....look I'm American can I get through? What happened after that must have not been good because 3 officers took him to a side room called inspections...told my little sister..." See we are Americans but that's what you don't do in another country...makes us look bad...".
