I don't agree with your opinion of the game. Honestly, I think FFXIV is the best MMO on the market atm. There's just so much detail in the world and gameplay that other games don't have. You complain about killing stuff being the primary reason to play but what else are you looking for? FFXIV has the best crafting system ever and those activities can give you something else to do. I can't think of another game with more out of combat activities unless you're just referring to roleplaying. I guess you're saying that you just want a cash shop, roleplaying servers and more exploration?
Just do the story quests, read the dialogue, watch the cutscenes, do some extra FATES along the way and take up a tradeskill like crafting or fishing when you get bored.
So wait... your upset that this is... in fact an mmoRPG... RPG... RPG...
RPG as a game often focused around progression and getting better? A game that focuses on earning your stuff and not just being handed it? A system that, even in its very base form, has been used in games like CoD in order to promote multiplayer attention since people like progression? The basis of... I don't know... every single Final Fantasy game?
Are you sure you are a FF14 fanboi?
None the less, well stick with casual games. MMORPGS are focused around that element of progression. Ones that don't are easily able to be discarded and forgotten, its the reason people have the desire to keep playing IS that progression. Casual games might be right in your ally, and honestly don't be upset that they are. Some people just aren't die hard gamers and do like simple games that reward right away. Not really my thing typically as the rewards feel less significant, but I enjoy dropping the hardcore gaming and playing casuals as a nice break, and some people find it as a satisfying source for all their gaming needs.
You might want to look up the meaning of "fanboi." And no, you do not fit the definiton. A "fanboi" doesn't quit a game of which he is a "fanboi" a couple of weeks after launch, and then proudly takes to the forums to proclaim his departure with baseless complaints. You are just another wishy-washy MMO player.

Nah the meaning of fanboi has changed, at least on this site. It USE to mean what you think it means. It now means you actually like the game you are playing and will openly admit it.
Same for a lot of older negative mmorpg terms such as grinding now meaning any form of progression.
So in that sense he was probably someone who posted a few time about liking the game, but now realizes what they meant by old school mmorpg and doesn't want anything to do with that.
That's fine, many will be in his boat soon enough.
I hate to say it, but I've decided to not subscribe to FFXIV ARR after the free month is up.
I'm not one of the content locusts that have already capped a class in the first week of launch. I'm still in my 30's on my conj. Main because I tried to approach the game with the oldschool mentality of "wow, let's explore this vast new world and see what adventures and new friends we experience on the way" just as I did with FFXI.
It had me fooled for the first couple days of introduction and learning curve.
It's really just another 'grind up to cap asap and do 'epic battlez for uber lewt' game. There's nothing else to do but kill stuff. Lady bugs and Wasps. over and over and over at varying levels. FATEs as it turns out are the main focus in terms of leveling up. So, in practice, you RAID/ZERG to level up so you can RAID/ZERG the primal battles over and over.
That's not what I wanted. I wanted all the other features that make an MMO and MMORPG. Housing, Role playing, Pubs, inns, aesthetic items, fluff, trinkets, collectibles, easter eggs, hard to find/reach places in the world, exploration just for the sake of exploration.. not to get achievements or search for mobs on a hunting log. (which, i must say is at least more fun than FATES imo)
and let's not forget CLASS CUSTOMIZATION. This does not exist in FFXIV even in comparison to FFXI, which is pretty sad when comparing to other RPG's.
The armory system is cool but leaves much to be wanted in the likes of being 'unique'
And now they are adding Gear Scores to Final Fantasy XIV.... smh. I'm over it, then. Maybe I'll come see if there's more to do than just RAID stuff after the 2.1 patch or whatever.
Such a shame though. I was way too optimistic.
PS: I mostly made this thread to see if anyone else felt the same. (for those of you who wanna respond with "cool bye" and "can I have your stuff?" lol)
Anyone else disappointed in the WoW-ish approach to things? "end game" "new raid content" "gear score" "hard mode" "best in slot" .. "progression guild/FC" .... all this been-there-done-that shit but no talk of Community content, social tools, housing, crafting recipes for things OTHER than more crafting mats and gear to battle in i.e. tables, chairs, lamps, fountains, etc...
Anyone else feel like they were tricked into playing another Raiding-hack-n-slash, gogogo, fasterfasterfaster action game instead of an MMORPG?
I also subscribed for one month just to finish the game its not to bad I only play it cause their is nothing else to play at the moment ,the targeting system on pc is horrible just like wow of 12years back.
if any of the good mmo games of next year was out like ESO,EQN,wildstar, shroud of the avatar ecs. I wouldn't have bothered.
its fanboys that keep average games like ffxiv and wow on the mad instead of pushing developers to create better games.

I was kinda thinking the exact same thing. They have laid a good foundation that's ready to be built into something great.
You know what's funny is I feel the same way. But rather than leave the game, I look forward to being a part of it as it grows and matures.
Having a great time playing this gem. So glad I get to be a part of it from the beginning.
lol, for a guy that says he's not a "content locust" he sure as hell sounds like one. "Im not in a hurry ... but im mad that FATEs are the best way to level!" As if youre somehow forced to do them. Im 34, I do the FATEs I run into or discover nearby but level with what I like most. Also 99% of games for anyone over 4 are mainly about killing other things .. are you seriously whining about that? It may be mostly killing stuff, but there are many things to do ... and theyre adding many more.
I enjoy it enough to sub for 180 days. But as I am not a big end game gear grinder, I am really hoping the housing system is as robust as it sounds. A great housing system can really make an MMO feel like "coming home" lol. Developers overlook housing so much but finding new items for my house in EQ2 was one of the most fun experiences ever. I loved just doing heritage quests simply to put the cool weapon on my wall. My house told a story, the story of my adventures.
To be fair to FFXIV, it never promised to be anything but what it currently is. Noone should really be surprised if they did any research.
I got a few weeks of playtime from buying the original (for about $3 from the bargain bin) but just can't bring myself to log in dispite loving the graphics / art.

in a way i agree but i still think its fun. im disappointed that you cant go WAR/DRG or something with WAR but with JUMP attacks too !! but anyways.. forsaken by my own mind
No, don't do that. Last thing we need is to convince this type to stay. The FF:ARR community will be better off without them.
Oh yeah, because those kind of playes, who actually love the idea of MMOs as expansive, explorable, community-driven experiences and don't want to play just for epeen raid grinding, are truely ruining the community! XIV will be so much better off without them!
I think you're going to be in the minority as it pertains to FF fanboy. I am a fanboy.
I have already registered the game for 6 month subscription.
I love the crafting.
I love the gathering.
I love the music.
I love the dungeon design and unlike other games, I don't mind doing them repeatedly.
I am waiting for Housing where I can make furniture or get furniture by beating content.
I am waiting for the PvP.
Golden Saucher sounds a lot of fun, ESPECIALLY if they can give us a deep and satisfying card game.
I can't wait for more specializations to be added to the classes I already have at 50.
A tall claim to make to say OP is in minority who won't renew sub. But we will know the truth once free month is over very soon.
However the past experince states that population will drop faster than dead flies. A P2P MMO with nothing but 'raid or die' end game in 2013? good luck with that SE.

you are not a fanboi. Fanbois (fanatics) are blind and narrowminded people who turn hostile towards anyone who says something about their game of choice even if the other person is correct and the fanboi is wrong. Also fanbois dont accept improvements / evolving of game. They are blind enough to accept garbage as good enough content.
As for the reasons you wont subscribe, thats fine. Every person doesnt decide to sub or unsub for the same reasons. I am enjoying the free days slowly leveling like 5 characters in different servers, and doing crafting on one of them. After my free days are up ill see if i still want to do what im doing now. I plan to subscribe to continue with this amazing crafting that i havent seen in other mmo but that alone doesnt justify a sub. More content down the road will decide my subscription's fate. But i am enjoying the game pretty much, so far.

Correct me if i am wrong but that 14 days free time is only for 1.0 owners. Those who bought the 2.0..their free month has already been going on. For 1.0 users once 14 days are over they have to resub. I have 5 days left on mine.
Yeah, if anything, the game is completely open and unapologetic about what it is. Noone should claim he didn't know what he was getting when he signed up for it.
Yep, i quit the game after i got lvl50. The only thing i had look up to was grinding the same dungeon called amdapor keep to raid the same type of raids i've already been through in WoW and other games. Even WoW nowadays has something for the non raiders but in FFXIV the only thing you have to look forward to is the raids and even they seem basic compared to the HC raids in WoW.
The content i got for a 30€ purchase was enough so i'm not dissapointed at all with the purchase i made. This was one of those single player MMO's you play for a while and it would be unfair to say i've been scammed etc. after i had as much enjoyment from it as a normal single player rpg. The MMO i get hooked on has to have something more though.

6 Months here as well.
Although i wasn't a fanboi and am one now. I came into FF14 with no idea and zero expectations. Did a little research prior to launch, asked a couple questions, got a good feeling about the game, just knew this was going to be good, turns out way better then i could have imagined.

To all of you who keep saying "they are open about it. you should have known what it was gonna be" --- give me a break. Before a game comes out, NO ONE knows exactly what it will be like to play it for any length of time. I did plenty of research before it came out. Read the blogs, watched the videos, felt heartwarmed by yoshi's tears. I'm really not bashing the game as if it's "terrible" but, really.... the things said about how this game would be were to be taken with a grain of salt. I don't remember at any point reading anything that said "Our new vision for the game is ZERGing FATES until you get to cap and then RAID for tokens to get the 1 set of gear for your class, so that every character looks and plays exactly alike" -- anyone have a link for me where they warned us of this? Because I specifically remember being excited for the "FFXI-like" features they mentioned, including furniture building, decorations, character depth, ability depth, housing, fluff, USEFUL crafting, not just to be able to slot materia (pathetic use for crafters. that's literally the only reason they have crafters in the game right now)
I'm not mad. I got the digital deluxe edition from GG for $37. Not like I feel like I wasted money.
I've spent much more for less.
I was just hoping someone would shine a light on an aspect of the game that I missed, but unfortunately, it is what it is.
When 2.1 comes out, I might check out what they've added, but, I no longer have my hopes up. Starting to see the wires in the genre now. Just too many young, stupid, unimaginative, and "hardcore' gaming kids now that companies want to cater too. I really need to just stick with EVE or jump ship.
PS: No, EQN is not the answer. Enjoy your free-runner wizard doing front flips off rocks... (smh) what a joke.
