Seriously. All you defenders you know he cheated right. If he was mad and said this is messed up im not playing anymore, okay that sucks. But this is the second thread I know of that he keeps going on and on and on and on. How innocent he is. And lashes out at everyone who questions him.
Ive been on gaming forums for a long time as many here have. You kinda get a feel on those who legitimately get screwed and those who were caught and lash out. Sovrath was the nicest person ive ever seen post on a topic like this and the op got pretty angry over their post.
Im 99% sure Mattatron of 69 posts and troll of any thread that has to do with the RMT investigation. Has a legitimate reason he got suspended. After all two others have posted the number of players suspended for investigation and its not many.
This is a small incident someone is trying to make into a wide spread massive event. Not all players with large amounts of Gil were investigated.
Hey that reminds me, If I start a business selling stuff to counterfeiters, will my store get investigated and all my money be taken if all of it in the register is counterfeit and all of it in my safe in the back is counterfeit? I think so.
If level 50s are buying gil from gil sellers to buy from you and you obtain 90% of your wealth and resources from tainted revenue you can best believe you ain't coming back. Sorry to say.
You have no way to legitimize your numbers or actually anything you just said, sorry to say.
I'm just saying that you may not even know those players buying from you bought their gil. Either way it goes you were legit who could have happened to be caught up in illegitimate activities. And if that's the case, it's safe to assume that your account will not be returned the way you first lost it.

Why does everyone suppose "my stuff was bought with purchased gil"? You're right, I can't control that, and if it's the case, the company designed their software poorly to differentiate the fact I'm not involved, so they are inept.
Maybe I bought something and that seller was caught selling their gil. Just as I sold 1-star garments for up to 65k, I also bought items for slots I couldn't make for 30k+. The 4th day of the server I bought a botanist off hand for 70k so I could have the stats to farm hq off unspoiled nodes. I just bought a new hq spinning wheel. On days I was lazy and didn't feel like spending 2 hours farming shards, I bought shards.
It's good all you experts know so much. I'm learning alot here. not.

Businesses have ways to detect and report counterfeit currency. There are other institutions involved in high value transactions, such as the financial institutions transferring those funds, so they would be culpable for storing and passing on the fake currency. In the U.S. if a person comes in with huge wads of cash in high dollar denominations, they will be vetted before being cleared.
By the way, Squeenix offers none of those checks and balances to their players.
If we use your analogy it would be like the U.S. government arresting and detaining any business that earns over $8M because they could have counterfeit money or probably acquired through nefarious means. That wouldn't fly in any court even if a business did pass fake bills because you can't just round up a large demographic arbitrarily, look through all their stuff, and prosecute them for what they might do or have done. That is exactly what Squeenix did. Not only that but they seem to have horrible heuristics because they apparently garner a lot of false positives.
But the illustration still fits. Like the fruit of the poisonous tree cant be used in the courts even if it proves a person innocent. The gil gold sellers put into the game needs to be removed. What you are missing is this is a game not RL where the removal of the gil is not going to cause anyone suffering or the ability to feed their families. This is a micro world that has been effected by RL money. This needs to stop or the game will be broken for everyone. If you dont get it then you dont understand MMOs or played one where gold sellers can do what they do unhindered. Every player is forced to buy from them to keep up with everyone else because there becomes 2 markets. One where people are to broke to buy what they need because they dont buy gold and another group that inflates the prices because they can afford it and to keep affording it they to need to buy from the gold sellers.
By the way, Squeenix offers none of those checks and balances to their players.
Just a friendly word of advice. If you want to at least pretend you are making constructive criticism unstead of just being a "hater", you might not want to use derogatory nicknames for the game company.

SE is not investigating accounts based on amount of Gil you have. That rumor came about from a internet blog that has no affiliation with the company. In the blog he also said that it was his guesses that this is the reason.
There is no proof that SE is investigating accounts based on the number of gill you have.
This was just a rumor being spread. Some have posted facts from the company and the number of accounts suspended is very small. If you go back to both threads on the topic the facts were posted on the number of players who had there accounts suspended.
I repeat myself because some are more interested in bashing SE on rumors of a few who were investigated instead of the facts.
There is no massive suspensions going on, the servers are still full of high level crafters who sell on the market.
No one's saying RMT is good. Congratulations. You won an argument with no opponent.
The issue is, the inept company is incapable of dealing with this without hurting legitimate customers.
Anyway, it's past 12 noon pacific, the time I read somewhere representative of when NA suspensions start/finish. It's been 5 days now (120 hours) since I was kicked from the server and sent an email I was suspended pending investigation.
My subscription update is slated for the 5th. I can't control my account and disable payment.
Phone customer service has no real info, says the issue is above them as an investigation, and they couldn't do anything if they wanted to. There's no way a convo with them can be elevated so I can discuss with people who do know anything.
I guess I will report back tomorrow around this time.

This is where you are wrong. The are proving they can handle this by taking action. They dont care how much they hurt their profits to make sure the player get the game they should. Intact of inflated prices because of gold sellers. As for hurting customers... this is a game. Not a place you get income to feed you or your family. This is just a game. You have been hurt in no way. Inconvenienced sure. Duly? Well we will have to leave that subject for now. You say you have been wronged and we dont really know. But by most posters here, this is an action the FF14 community supports. Now if SE charges you game time for next months subs, you will have been wronged at last. There I agree.
"Just a bump; we really do need some support here as CS live chat, phone support, and a support ticket have all been utterly unhelpful. I recognize that based on what I have been told by CS I will not suffer any penalties as I did not engage in RMT or exploits, but being told by the CS rep that according to my account data I'm suspended through Friday when I was originally told last Friday it was a 72H suspension... the lack of communication here is astounding. I was charged over the weekend. I literally can't access mogstation to turn off automatic payments. I won't reverse the charge since I don't want to lose my account, but this feels a bit like extortion. "

No one has forced or blackmailed you. You keep picking words to make it seem its more then an inconvenience. If its true you want to keep your account then when its over and you have your account back. Ask for a refund of time paid of how many days it takes to resolve it. This is still action that proves SE has what it takes to look after their customers as a whole.

That above quote is not me. I can't log into the forum. From my understanding, that person has been logged into the forum since before his/her account was suspended, and remained logged on it and no one has kicked her. Otherwise, people have been communicating to that forum via accounts of significant others or friends, because once your account is suspended, you cannot log on anything, even the forum, with that account.

Ahhhh. Well I cant wait to see the outcome of all this. I really hope this stabilizes the market as everything is way out of wack. If you really did no wrong, I hope your account comes back to you soon. It sad that to fix this some customers had to take some down time. Would have been nice if the gold sellers could have been kept out from day one. Seems they always get a head start on every new MMO. Would like to see a company with a proactive plan for a change.

I didn't introduce the analogy only commented on it. I agree it was a bad analogy. Most are.
I also agree that gold buying and third party RMT adversely affects the game for everyone.
Where we probably disagree is their approach. I don't think this is the best or only way they could address the problem. It is the developer's fault yet they're making the player pay. I have yet to play an MMO where the player is not supposed to make the most money from crafting or the AH or where guilds are supposed to sell dungeon runs for cheap so it's fair to all. An entire cornerstone of MMO play is to try and amass resources and wealth for your account.
If they would have warned the players before, telling them to be wary and that they intend on dealing with this, then I would have no sympathy for those who still chose to skirt the line. However, they gave no warning for a problem they created, and then punished paying players. That's not only wrong, it's just unprofessional.
They took the action that was IMO still best for the community. By putting accounts with huge bank rolls on a freeze. They have made sure they can track what gill came from gold sellers it and effect less players that way. They could have looked into it and not put some accounts on hold but that would have made it harder to tack the gil and harder to remove and would have hindered more accounts in the end. That money needed to be removed.

Leave it to a select few to over analyze a simplification of a scenario. Honestly the Pulitzer prize winning piece on "real world" business legalities was not the response I was shooting for. But I'll break it down even further for you:
Bad money is removed from the system and burned. No matter the impact it may have on legitimate businesses or people.
Also Protip: The $20 bill is the most commonly counterfeited note use within the US.
So someone looking to get rid of loads of counterfeit money will probably not be walking in with a million dollars in $100 bills stuffed in a briefcase waiting to get popped off. And businesses get shutdown all the time for money laundering. That's where the term came from.....businesses trying to clean dirty money.
"Small minds talk about people, average minds talk about events, great minds talk about ideas."
Iam trying to figure out why anyone needs to buy gil in this game anyway. Horrible game, worthless combat (no loot) no reason to do anything in the game. You can buy anything you need......*rambling on and on * sry...just a VERY disappointing game. Going back to EQ2.
This morning I called customer service again. My account apparently is slated to come off suspension tomorrow (oct 4) and no information was available to the csr about the reason for the suspension except that it is "under investigation".
My account's been frozen now almost 6 complete days (about 141.5 hours) since I was disconnected from the server and received the form email a number of other customers have received.
Dear Customer: This notice is to inform you that we have lifted the temporary suspension of the FINAL FANTASY XIV service account registered to this e-mail address. This suspension was due to one or more violations of the FINAL FANTASY XIV User Agreement.
Specifically, you have violated the following Section(s) of the FINAL FANTASY XIV User Agreement. ------------------ SQUARE ENIX ACCOUNT TERMS OF USE 1. ... blah blah, with some minor changes, like the fact suspension was lifted and the date and time it was lifted. It still doesn't say, nor do I have any clue, what I actually did. It just accuses me of everything across the board, says I violated tos from botting to rmt, no details.
I would think if I did all these things, I wouldn't get my account back.
I guess I don't deserve details.
So I logged on and they've taken 2 million gil from me. I earned that gil. Any review of my transactions over the market says I earned that. I spent time leveling, becoming self-sufficient to farm my own mats, sold all kinds of weaver items on market, the highest individual item sale was 70k.
So, I won't be resubscribing. I will communicate my experience to any who are interested in the state of this game. This is an indignant slap in the face to me as a customer, and I'm not interested in continuing participation with a company like this.
edit: as an aside, they left my retainers on the market while I was suspended and they earned almost 700k between them. It's pretty god damned obvious, had they looked, I earn that money legitimately.

Dude your money came from gil buyers. you had illicit gil. SE removed it. If you hadnt overcharged in greed on the market youd be ok. You have no one to blame but yourself. But to claim you are innocent LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. Please quit the game.
Any graphical, audio, or gameplay restrictions not seen in other mmos but found in FFXIV can be blamed on one thing. PS3
I've heard that gold sellers would buy high priced items on the market from you once you digitally pay for it (RMT). Have the caught on to that so now they buy a multitude of lower priced items? Can became a legitimate or accidental suspect. The gold farmers could get you banned (at their loss).

There was nothing "overpriced". Everything was priced appropriately to supply and demand. This is a silly argument from bad players who couldn't figure out how to, or didn't want to put time into, earning money to keep up. You're young-minded and jealous.
If I can make something 6 other people on a server can make, because we took the time to be able to make it, and hundreds of people want the item, the price goes up so only the people who REALLY want the item can get it. There is no obligation to continue to price an item very low so everyone can have one. This is what you apparently don't understand, and when you do, you won't be saying the same things.
And I am quitting the game, along with most other self- respecting gamers, for various reasons.
So I logged on and they've taken 2 million gil from me. I earned that gil. Any review of my transactions over the market says I earned that. I spent time leveling, becoming self-sufficient to farm my own mats, sold all kinds of weaver items on market, the highest individual item sale was 70k.
Actually, while this sucks, if their investigation reveals that the Gil used to buy your merchandise came from illicit sources, they may feel the need/right to take it away from you with no compensation.
CCP actually does this in EVE, if you have ISK in your account that will ill gotten, even if you received it innocently they just take it all back, with no communication whatsoever.
Additionally, if you don't have enough ISK to cover the removal, your account is frozen until you buy enough ISK via Plex to bring your balance back up over zero.
I know because one time a billion was removed from my account along with many of my corp mates and when he reached out to support they said the Corp mate who gave us the isk (supposedly leaving the game) had obtained it by botting (and he was no longer allowed to play, his accounts permanently frozen)
Fortunately I had plenty to cover, but I began to be very careful and decline offers of gift ISK from others, even if well intentioned.
Same in real life BTW, if you accept laundered money you risk having it seized by the government if they decide you should have known better. (like guy walks into your car dealership and buys a Lambo for cash, small bills only and bad ID)

Yeh, I would have understood if, like, someone bought a few pricey 1star items from me totalling 110k to 150k, but taking 2 million is basically saying all money I made for a week or more came from people who bought gil.
I made alot of money daily selling hq woolen yarn, hq undyed velveteen and linen, normal and hq undyed wool, normal and hq undyed felt, hq twinthread, and materia. This is all stuff for which I got mats myself and would just spend 3 or 4 hours every few days to be able to restock the market for the next couple days. I netted 50k-100k a day on this stuff. Prices of some of this stuff actually are now higher than what I was charging.
Then I made 18-30k on non hq and 25-70k on hq 1 star crafter robes, pants, etc. whatever a weaver makes. It adds up. I'm pretty sure, though, I didn't sell 2 million of stuff to people who buy/sell gold. It would have had to have been everything I sold, every day, for over a week.
Money laundering is different than counterfeiting.
If you go rob a bank - you know all those $20's and $100's had their serial numbers written down. So you can't just go use them to buy your new vacation home in cash - it would get traced directly back to you. So you have to filter them through the system in ways that they can't get traced directly back to you.
Counterfeiting is just counterfeiting. While you may launder it in order to use it as currency (and hence not have it traced back to you directly), no amount of laundering will make a counterfeit bill a real bill. There is no Pinocchio here.

I'm just saying that you may not even know those players buying from you bought their gil. Either way it goes you were legit who could have happened to be caught up in illegitimate activities. And if that's the case, it's safe to assume that your account will not be returned the way you first lost it.
"Small minds talk about people, average minds talk about events, great minds talk about ideas."
I'm learning alot here. not.
It is happening.

Quoting Jacotto:

I'll post tomorrow the results.
Got relatively the same form letter...
Dear Customer:
This notice is to inform you that we have lifted the temporary suspension of the FINAL FANTASY XIV service account registered to this e-mail address. This suspension was due to one or more violations of the FINAL FANTASY XIV User Agreement.
Specifically, you have violated the following Section(s) of the FINAL FANTASY XIV User Agreement.

... blah blah, with some minor changes, like the fact suspension was lifted and the date and time it was lifted.

I'm looking at my server's market right now. Things I used to sell are more or less the same cost as when I left.
There's no reason to continue debating this. The issue makes me sad.

Classic.
Also, I should point out....
