Simple fact once a game tries to appease all but  loses everyone. if GTA tried to be sissy friendly the game would not be the highest grossing game of all time in less then a month....

I mean really be a solid game get a core work from there,,... Thats a true mmorpg growth model or spend 250 mill and make the net wow lol

Fully open world PVP MMOs fail the make-money test.   The ganking, griefy crowd drives away paying customers.  Most devs understand this.    It's a perfectly  viable design, it just doesn't appeal to a large portion of the paying user base.   That's why it's found in smaller, niche games.

It's usually more enjoyable in non-mmo FPS or RTS games anyway.

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

Well if it's a flag system it's still open world pvp. Atleast those who are into PVP can have their fun. Those who want to grief or slay another player 30 levels below them arn't really pvp players so no worries about them.
Maybe I am wrong here, but when I see "Open World PvP" I think "Attack anyone anywhere." Once you start placing restrictions on that premise, it fails to be open world PvP. Am I misunderstanding the term/feature?
Open world pvp means pvp anywhere. Free for all means attack anyone. They're two separate conditionals. You can have open world pvp with target restrictions. You can have FFA with location restrictions.
Ah, thank you. That makes sense :)

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

Khm, is really giving up to freedom if you take away "right" of some serial killer to kill you whenever he/she want to? Like in real life. I'm sure not. Games should have mechanics to keep (I dare to say real life) psychos out of games.

I don't like it.  I have no interest in dominating anyone or being dominated, thus I don't play PvP at all in any form, period.  There is no possible way that anyone could spin it that would make it appealing to me.
