Looks pretty awful. There is a built in delay when sensing where a character is, it means people will be getting hit when it looks like they are out of range.
No sort of pvp balance for classes.
It is something else to do I guess, but I can't believe anyone interested in pvp will enjoy it much.
Just another company completely failing to grasp the potential of PvP and instead implementing a totally pointless 'mini-game'...I'm curious who exactly they are hoping to entertain with this kind of crap, that has failed repeatedly in game after game..
When players ask for and call for PvP they want something with meaning and depth. I'd rather they spend 6 months designing that, than 2 months putting together some complete joke.
You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into.
SE should stay focused on PvE content, it's what most FF fans are primarily interested in and will be the game's best chance for long term success.
Unless you can offer a PvP experience that's at least on par with games like GW2 and WoW (both of which are still far from amazing), don't waste the development resources on it.
I'm not expecting much from them in the PVP dept but I guess they wanted to throw some kind of PVP at us - not much different from Wow's Arena as far as I can tell. Battlegrounds with PVE objectives would be welcome.....

Ya - its a pretty piss poor attempt at PvP - among the worst I've seen in a long time.
Here...stand in one arena (not even multiple crappy arenas) and fight your friends 1 on 1 with no point to the battles...
Yeah, I kinda feel sorry for the people who are playing FFXIV for the pvp. This does look pretty bad.
I'm glad I'm a carebear.
Most memorable games: AoC(Tryanny PvP), RIFT, GW, GW2, Ragnarok Online, Aion, FFXI, FFXIV, Secret World, League of Legends (Silver II rank)
And you think LoL is without imbalance? I guess all of the champion changes aren't really needed then.

That is just pvp in development, does not mean anything.
Personally pvp is a total waste of time in all rpg games, none of them do pvp right.
I have seen people try to tell others pvp is only good if you can full loot.Well i have news for those, looting is a mechanic that happens AFTER the pvp fight is OVER,so no it does nothing at all to make pvp better.
I have seen people take part in pvp that is in instances and again no that does not make for good pvp.
FFXI had pvp in arranged areas but they were out in the real game field, you just had to maintain inside a decent sized area.Pvp balance also does NOT make for good pvp.Players simply did not care about pvp and imo just like anything else in games,if there is no BONUS or reason,VERY few will care. That is why games add ladders and leader boards, just to give players that feeling of bragging but for me it is meaningless because i don't care about bragging rights,i just like to have some relaxing fun.
My favorite pvp of all time is Unreal Tournament pvp because it offers various weapon types to suite various type players, each weapon is NOT balanced. The weapon of choice is always up to the player themselves, but do have distinct advantages under certain conditions and distances. That works better in a game just like FFXI because you had choice for weapons. However there is still no defend and cover or strategic points or z-axis in rpg pvp so it is a lame attempt and i doubt very much that FFXIV finished pvp product will be done right.
PVP simply belongs in fps's and particularly in ARENA type combat just because it works best.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

I don't think it will be as simple as people standing still and pressing buttons. It is obvious that mobility will come into play, but how much? With a 2.5 sec GCD I really doubt action can be that intense. Throw in the lack of objectives and its basically like dueling someone.

I think it's a welcomed change. I could see some vastly different mechanics in there. I know I'd play my scholar *very* differently. Miasma 2 anyone? Selene over Eos?
It will definitely revive the Alchemist job quite a bit because you are going to need anti-debuff potions...or you could just sit there like a bump on a log while a WHM sleeps you.
Either way, it's arena style smashfest. Perfectly fine start for me.
As for all of you naysayers, you need to realize that Yoshi is one of the best PvPers in the world. The guy was an absolute monster on DAoC. If he wants to make good PvP, he will make good PvP.
the reason its not imbalanced is because they are perpetually making changes to make things balanced? mmorpgs allow players to abuse/exploit broken mechanics for months or more until something is done.

Its better than LoTRO's pvp. But its a pve game. Hell I dont think the lore would even allow for PvP other than as an olympic game or arena.
I've played a little FF XIV myself (and still do) but have other peoples spell effects off, so I really had no idea how impossibly obnoxious those spell effects are.
Seriously I had a headache in 15 seconds trying to follow that video.
And other games don't make balance changes? Doesn't really matter because there is always something that is not balanced in league. They make changes every week beacuse of imbalance... the need for "perpetual changes" in itself proves that it is not balanced.
