I have bad experiance with the full PvP looting feature, back during the beta test of Darkfall Online when I never heard of the feature, is when people was attacking one another left and right, that those that attack somebody is immediately dog piled, after I died, I noticed all of the stuff that I had was gone... I've gone back to see if I could get back my equipment somehow by killing npc's if I could, but once I got it back again, here come the same circle jerking people dog piling me and killing me once again.
This is why I don't like Full PvP looting is because of people, I see the whole world is nothing more then villains, out to get you, your money, your gear, and take pleasure of killing you over and over again, forcing you to quit the game entirely or continue getting killed, trolled, animatedly pissed on, bullied, and all shorts of evil, bad shit. You will never find people out there that will protect you, will you never find people to fight against this, you only see people who support this evil actions, you see people encouraging the bully for a job well done on eliminating the noobs, like the elite bigot that they are.
This is why I don't like Full PvP Feature, it's supporting the assholes of the world, it's support bullying, idiots, and all kinds of filithy people, and this is going to be the major downfall of this mmo because nobody like this system, nobody like this bullshit and this game will be dead like Darkfall, dead like Mortal Online, and Dead like Ultima Online, and never be mentioned in the front page of this website ever again unless it's the news that this game will be shutting down.
I highly advise that the developers of this mmo will cease support of this feature if they ever wish to make this game great.
Not hard to join a clan/guild and run around in groups, like how the games you mention were intended to be played. Solo play is not how you play games like these. Soloing sounds like your problem here, don't expect random people to protect you as you said, you join a clan or guild and work together to build/create/takeover in the world instead of solo questing like a themepark game. Set up alliances, spy games, politics and whatever you can think of is the "end game". Building your character and getting gear is pretty much a mini game in a full loot game like this.
DAoC had one server that was OW FFA and no loot. All other servers at the time were 1500+ populations (login times were queued on most for RvR servers) but the OW FFA server had at most 150 in prime time or about 1/10 the population.
In late 2007 The populations of the normal servers were under 1000 and the OW FFA server had under 10 players.
Throw in full loot and you will again cut the chance of population.
The game is Niche but the chance of success will be a major mountain to climb since the OW FFA full loot is going to downright eliminate 99% of the potential players.
To top it off you're going to compete with existing FFA full loot games to pull their population.
I don't see this game being a success unless there is a major portion of the world that is not full loot.
It sounds like a great game, however, I'm not sure the MMO community these days can play it right. I have a feeling it might turn out to be like other recent PvP games, that just turn out to be a gankfest. He did mention consequences...so I do like that. I also like the setting. I always loved DAoC before they changed the archers, because they had no magic. I love playing a "no magic" class. There's only been two games where I played a magic class. One is D&D and the other is WoW. Both were druid hehe
the problem usually is, not many are attracted to such games. And those that are complain about low populations.
I don't get why gamemakers only go for the "all or nothing" approach - either full loot free for all pvp or no loot limited pvp.
Why can't they just do a hybrid system that only allows you to loot money that is not in bank / harvested resources that is on the person and not actually allow people to loot gears, open pvp?
I'm sure everyone hate to lose all their gears (because no one wants to gear grind for the same gears, all the time) but people generally should be okay with losing some money or resources.
Speaking of hybrids, why is it that developers cannot just create multiple servers, to serve all player types? UO eventually created the Trammel facets, and Asheron's Call and Everquest both also had dedicated PvP servers. Anarchy Online was initially planned as a full PvP war game and Dark Age of Camelot has their 3 realm war (though the Gaheris PvE server had the highest population count the last I played there a couple years back).
I mention all those old games because the MMO playerbase back then was different then today's generation of players. I also mention these games because PvP balance was much more difficult for developers, so they just didn't bother with balance and opened up separate servers (EQ & AC). The developer today has more tools (and knowledge I hope) than a decade ago to be able to create systems that have a balance between PvP and PvE. So if a game is going to have PvE in the game WITH PvP, then why not just create a PvE server?
If current (MO, EVE, Xyson, etc...) and upcoming games opened PvE only servers, they would easily double player bases in my opinion (even EVE would I think). It just seems to be a huge mistake not offering a game to all the masses, instead of just a select type. <shrug>
I don't really care about the full loot stuff as long as gear isn't too expensive so you can quickly re-equip. I'm currently playing Persistent Frontier, a mod for Mount&Blade Warband which has full loot. But the gear you need is so cheap you can completely re-equip for an amount of 5-10 minutes of work, which I'm completely fine with.
I don't like to work 90% of the time playing a game and losing everything by dying once but I like the thrill of a meaningful fight.
The concept sounds great. I hope they get the combat right unlike Mortal Online. It should be a hybrid of Mount&Blade and Chivalry, then I'm more than happy.

Wurm Online does it, it's a totally sandbox mmo that has PVP and PVE servers.
After the delusional Darkfall UW and MO this is my next dream, a true sandbox with consequences, risk vs reward, align system, sieges and free world shaping.
Hope really the game deliver and go live.
The funding isn't going well but i expected this, they don't show us a lot just a preview, as they stated you can't blame people for wait and see before donate.
For people who don't like FFA PvP full loot, just leave and play your standard WoW clone where you can keep your sparkle gear, there are tons of these game on the maket already so you have plenty of choices.
Leave true sandbox player driven to us old players who like risk vs reward and a meaningfull open worl ffa system.
The only truly successful full loot pvp game to date is EvE. why? because only they have found an ingenius way have the freedom of full loot pvp co exists with the safety of a standard pve mmo . This is the only way sandbox games will ever get popular. There have to be rules, and consequences to being a douche bag.
There is too much greefing in most full loot pvp. There is no growth without balance. that means there should be areas with full loot pvp as well as areas where players are safe and can be sheltered (for the most part) from greefers.
keep in mind that 1 complete douche bag can ruin a game for thousand of people if he is given too much freedom, and this is exactly what happens in 99% of current full loot games.
Freedom is a great thing until it is used to inflict mindless pain on other players, then it becomes the worst enemy of the game.
The beauty of all those ffa PvP full loot games that didn't do it right is that future developers know how NOT to do it. Just because something is rarely fine right doesn't make the thing itself bad. It just makes it a bigger challenge. New game new ideas new chance.
Nice to see not every dev is just giving up on the idea.
This game will be discretely forgotten at best. The graphics and atmosphere are just too awful, and people don't like full loot despite what 2 or 3 very vocal people keep spamming in these threads. Last overhyped game with full loot that I heard of was War Z (now Infestation: Survivor Stories) and the game is rotting in oblivion with around 5-10 people per server playing it.
My opinion is my own. I respect all other opinions and views equally, but keep in mind that my opinion will always be the best for me. That's why it's my opinion.
So it's Minecraft, but a mmorpg. ok? Unless they bring in some devs who can make the combat fucking AMAZING, I'm going to pass. Low budget mmo's always have the worst controls and clunky mechanics.
You know there is so much i love about this concept of a game, but I have one big problem. Full Loot. I used to be all for full loot and thought it was the way things needed to be, but after playing it in several games for many years now. I find it to be more of a turn off than a bonus. I am ok with droping a item or 2, but actual problem with the game is that you will be killed far more times than you actual can make weapons. Also, games like this lean toward massive hordes of naked people with newbie swords. Risking almost nothing and gaining 1 kill is a huge victory for the horde. Darkfall anyone? I could see you being able to take stuff off people chests and stuff in their house, but every possible time you die you drop everything you had on you. No thanks. Died to many times for little to no reason. Not a sustainable game with that feature. Take it out. Maybe.
I was just surprised to learn that the Russian versions of A Game of Thrones doesn't have dragons and magic.
Having grown up playing Greyhawke, I wish there were more (OK, any) low magic settings. They just seem cooler to me.
And yes, this game is going to fail. It's just MO all over again. You don't make an entire game around a failed mechanic (full loot FFA PVP), hoping that an untested fix to that mechanic will be the silver bullet for the problem. Factions doesn't fix PVP ganking. UO had factions.

Full loot? One word...
Yes!

Lost interest there.
OW FFA PvP itself doesn't work.

That wouldn't be difficult.. MO is a steaming pile and should be buried in a lead lined coffin !

1 word QQ
