World of Warcraft, no other game does everything as well as good ol' WoW.  Haters gonna hate...

    WoW.

I've left WoW and tried to play all other MMOs out there, but what I always find is a deep craving inside that never is satisfied by any other MMORPG except WoW. Other MMOs can keep me interested for months, but after those first few months die down, the craving surfaces and the only thing that quenches that thirst is WoW. I know many of you feel the same.

WoW isn't at all what it used to be, but it is undoubtedly the king of all MMOs.

I agree with OP. EVE Online from what's available today. The dull combat and the passive skill system are just too much for me to start the game now. I wish I subbed to it over WOW. It would surely be a better investment in the long run.

I would totally see myself playing EVE now if I had account with stacked passive skills. There is nothing close to it when it comes to polish, complexity, graphics, and freedom. Being immersed in a single server with 25-30k players simultaneously is great.

WOW is a great single player game that can be experienced with others. At the end of the boss kill, the game ends until new bosses are released. That's pretty much the sum of it. The PvP, lol it rewards me with a tabard for 2500 rating, which it's completely useless to me in the game.

Problem with EVE was that it had a rough launch when WOW launched and most didn't want to be a ship. That combined with the the infinite, passive skill gain discouraged a lot (including me) commiting to it after all these years.

Everquest.  I think it was a major influence in the foundation of the genre.

Though I don't like the direction it's gone and no longer enjoy it like I used to, WoW is still the king. Polish, content, updates, imo is still above the contenders. However it is an old king now and looking weak. Time for a new champion I think.

I think the best MMO overall is:

A self-fulfilling prophecy of endless possibility in rolling reams across a screen in algebra, in algebra...

I haven't played it in years but still have fond memories of vanilla and BC.  It has to be WOW in terms of content and polish.
