250 players using an area of just  6 quare kilometers, seems like most of the map is just empty and therefore some will just starve to death. In DayZ  50 players using a playable map of 225 square kilometers, no wonder  people write they die so often in Rust.

The playable map filled with content is allegedly only around the road, seen on this map:

play on a 50 player server and what you describe doesn't happen.

But you still have only a tiny playable map with just 6km2.

it's pretty big imo.  if you run (holding shift) from the southern most part (that has resources) to the northern most part with resources it takes a good 15min or so.  walking would take about 30 min.  it's not tiny by any stretch.

Well, the game is not in a release state after all.

Also, it was on page one of the "Best Sellers" this morning. :-)

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Just found out about this one. Looks and sounds fricken awesome. It's also obvious it's nowhere near release. As soon as I hear now wipes, they can have my 20$!
  • BloodaxesBloodaxes Member EpicPosts: 4,662

I bought it but won't play it until there will be no more wipes or else I get burned out.

What I like of this survival game apart of all the others is that with this you can join no pvp servers and in the future they might let people host their own servers localy so you could play alone or with some friends trough lan, etc etc

What I want to know is why is it that only indie games make crafting and housing something that is actually intresting.

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

Instead of this Utopian society the game invariably devolves into a "Kill on Sight" gankfest as the players with the good gear cull the noobs for shits and giggles rather than the puny gear they carry.

    The devs never, ever learn.

The problem is the so called pvp community wants free for all killing without any kind of repercussions in every game, anything less for them is not "true" pvp. This is just silly, as even in the wild west there were rules and therefore consequences for cold blooded killing. Make it so people who want to be murderers can do so, but make it difficult for them just as it would be in real life. Give people a reason to NOT become murderers as well. Ultima Online did a great job at this. You didn't see everyone free for all killing everyone they met outside of towns. You were cautious but that was it, because if you just attacked a stranger for no reason you would be penalized for it, this kept things under control. Those who wanted to be bad guys were still allowed to do so as long as they were willing to accept the consequences of being banished from towns and marked as murderers for all to see. Funny how they call us carebears yet they are the ones who want it all to be easy for them.

When it is more fun to just run around killing people and there is no penalty for it you just have another Call of Duty.

The majority of mmo players don't like pvp, but they keep putting it in every game.

To be fair though crafting and housing is in most games too (WoW is probably the biggest exception but it's on it's way next expansion), maybe not done well, but done. I don't agree that indie companies are the only ones making it interesting though and I'm tremendously encouraged by Everquest Next in that regard.

meh this game is like dayz and will be full of cheaters and griefers once it goes live. Ill stick to the dead linger and 7 days to die for the survival game both have far better mechanics and community .
  • NevulusNevulus Member UncommonPosts: 1,288

The worse part is that even on the pve servers people are griefing settlements and raiding everything. I won't say how, but if you are currently playing Rust, I'm sure you know the many ways they are doing it.

And yet the pvp only LoL is a hit bigger than WoW, and the crafting only Tales in the Dessert has only a handful of players. I highly doubt crafting/housing is anywhere close to the popularity of pvp.

This would be a reason for me to avoid the game. I'm all for harsh survival, but the PvP just doesn't sound all that fun. Maybe if they setup the option for private servers or even PvE servers it might be cool. Though, I'm not at all sure PvE servers make sense.
Apparently there is a PVE server but massively over-subscribed.

Heh. There is a message there.

You can still get all your stuff nicked the moment you log out regardless of which server you are on.

I haven't played but the reviews I have read basically said the following: -

You turn up into the world naked and get shot in the head.  You gather some materials to try to make a weapon, get shot in the head again and the materials stolen.  Eventually by hiding behind trees you manage to get some sort of rudimentary weapon together, remembering that the nodes are few and far between.  You then get shot in the head.  You respawn and get shot again.  You then gather some more materials, build a hut to store them in and log out.  Whilst you are logged out someone breaks into your hut and steels all your stuff.  You log back in and get shot in the head.

This is not my idea of fun.

LMAO!!!    Oh how I wish I had not read this post!

This sounds like it could be absolutely hilarious!   I could be running around naked  (and getting shot in the head)  while the gankers constantly waste ammo killing me!    I could even throw myself in front of their C4 explosions just to enjoy the beauty of my nakedness being blown to bits  (while being shot in the head).   Go ahead and loot me for bone fragments boys!

Twenty bucks for gaming Nirvana?  Sign me up kids!  The name is XXHeadShotXX  (gets shot in the head)

Since when do you speak for everyone else, what's with the "we all" lol.

Wurm Online is far from a gankfest and has everything this game has and more.

Pm me when this game gets a gold award for being the best balanced FFA PVP sandbox game mkey.

Yeah, I like the idea of the game, and the implementation at least seems to work, but unless something is done about player behavior it really is just going to be one big grief fest and not something I'm interested in playing, no matter how well the game functions.

Kind of like DayZ where the idea is so cool, but being sniped by a dozen players in a row as you try to pick up one gun or survive one day just doesn't sound like a lot of fun.

Private servers would probably make the difference for me.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Metal doors are harder but after about an hour in game you can get and craft c4 which makes doors fall instantly.

It would not be so bad if it took more than 2 min to screw someone out of 10 or 20 hours of work ."

" Any building is raidable in less than 3 hours of play ANY building. in 3 hours you have c4 , and all the other tools needed to raid. All that needs to be done is make raiding more expensive ,, harder to do, devs say no so ,, if your a griefer ,, good god your going to love this , otherwise its a waste of money."

"an metal hatchet will take those spike pieces down in a few hits, any armor over leather and you can walk right in to the spikes and just wack the crap out of them, the small spikes are even more silly as you can jump over them. The tall spike walls are easier to chop down than the wooden doors,, figure out how that makes sense"

"PVP servers are a death match, the guns are too easy to make and blueprints, mats to farm for players already established. They need to remove the amount of gun drops and get rid of zombies. I see a lot of feedback like this lately."

    Other words...

"I laugh at this post because, yesterday, a friend and i were completely raided, lost 10k+ wood, metals, guns, you name it it was all taken after building everything ourselves. Come to find out, our own fault in faulty structure building. Clearly, OP is raging because thinking outside the box and actually having to think about structure creation AND placement is too difficult. The map is gigantic, even in the current stage of Alpha"

"ok they raid u but when u expand your house and place alot of steel doors they can harley come true"

"All you have to keep in mind is to not stock big amounts of farm just use to build your house. If you get raid and they see they had to use 20c4 just to get nothing I insure you they wont come back that soon. "

"ROFL funny watching all the people say its going to get better, rust has been in this state for over a year with very and i mean very little improvment i'v been playing sins 9 months and nothing...well almost nothing has changed."

" 2 hours of play and you have a fort that needs 20+ C4 to get into, and 20 C4 would take a LOT of resorces for them. Losing your stuff is part of the game."

"Is this another WarZ fiasco? Isn't this the game RockPaperShotgun were drooling over at some point because zombies were not really the focus? "

"a home full of doors should not be needed and the current trend is to build a tower next door get on the roof and c4 your way in the top. "

"I wouldn't say don't buy this game, but don't buy this game if you are a whiny sack like the OP. "

check this out... this a game for trolling others

"I think some people are just ♥♥♥♥♥. After spending ages to solo setup a small 3 foundation base(somewhat hidden)with a metal door. To cut a long story short where I helped him out after he was pretending, he later blows the door open and kills me. Ok now I do expect that from certain people.

But what I didnt expect, was when I respawned he had build a wall inside my small house which then left me trapped with nothing but a rock. So I understand the PvP but I dont understand trolling nob heads. I guess some people are just sociopaths and that is hard to change."

Some of your information is just a flat out lie. It takes 8 mins to knockout a wooden door with a hatchet and it doesnt take 5 mins to make a wooden door. Also, it doesnt take 3 hours to make C4. First of all, you have to LEARN the C4 recipe, then you have to either get the explosives recipe from an airdrop or have someone who knows how to make it make it for you so you can research with a kit.  This would not be possible without the help of an experienced RUST player.  Also, if you design your home correctly it should take 15-30 C4 to get to where you stash your loot. Considering it takes a considerable amount of time and resources to make C4 it is actually a pain to raid a base.

  • osiriszoranosiriszoran Member Posts: 86

the playable area is actually pretty big. You can actually build a base in the non seeded area if you care about not being raided. Most of the people complaining about their houses being robbed build near the roads or the resources valleys. there are 250 person servers but ive found playing on a 100 is the most optimal for play experience.  There are no sleeper pvp servers as well if you care about  being killed in your sleep.

the game has its Pkers but there are tons of people ive run into who dont KOS. there are tons of hiding places in the mountains and its fairly easy to escape players who shoot at you if you can make a run for the mountains.

Rust is not for the weak of heart or those who get frustrated easily or those who cant stand pvp. Rust is about adapting, surviving, and building a base far away from the resource valleys
