From all that I understand, PvP is very similar. 3 factions, full sieges, benefits for controlling keeps and such. It seems very DAoC to me yet there is not a big support from the old DAoC community. Just curious if anyone has any reasons....reasons that are NOT flaming rants about how you hate a game that's not even released.
Personally the PvP as well as the strong PvE is what is attracting me to this game. I loved DAoC tri-realm battles in larger open areas. I have grown very tired of this 5v5 arena (Team DeathMatch/Capture the Flag) PvP that every game seems to throw in as an after thought.
Anyway, any [Productive] thoughts?

Just as you think it's "seem very DAoC", many people think "it's just another WoW clone" etc. If there is no real support from the old DAoC community, most of them most likely think the later, rather than "DAoC in Cyrodil".
Not sure if you think of this as productive, but unless you go into the details why it is/is not like DAoC, this is it.
I'll wait to the day's end when the moon is high
And then I'll rise with the tide with a lust for life, I'll
Amass an army, and we'll harness a horde
And then we'll limp across the land until we stand at the shore
Once the NDA drops, and people start posting videos and seeing for themselves how PvP works in ESO, the DAoC crowd will come.
... Oh yes.. They will come.
[mod edit] Read around on the forums, not much chatter from DAoC guys about TESO. I understand it's probably because Camelot Unchained is getting all the attention from DAoC guys but something about CU's ALL PVP is turning me off. Not pulling it from my rear as you suggest, but from simple generalized observations over the past few months on forums (particularly MMORPG).
But yeah Anireth, it's funny how many perspectives there are on upcoming games. I have heard WoW clone so much for TESO, yet I can't help but think its TES mixed with DAoC. Really hoping this pans out as a solid MMO to get 'lost' in like I did in DAoC and EQ.
Can't wait for NDA to lift, mainly so I can run my mouth but also so others who didn't bother signing up for Beta can see how legit this game is. Maybe then some more PvP (or RvRvR) guys will spark a bit of interest.

The thing that made DAoC PvP interesting was crowd controll... if you got the move, 2 groups of 8 could kill a full raid...
I dont see this happening in TESO... there is no reason not to join the zerg in this game, and zerging is not fun... Thats why i have become a fan of smaller PvP instances, and cherish my DAoC memmories for what they are..
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
personally i wont be playing this game, shame really i really liked it in concept.
But, One thing i cannot understand is this game has been branded a WoW clone, what/how/when everything ive seen over this weekend does not show it too be.
DaoC i cannot comment never played it, but this game certainly aint a wow clone from my point of view.
for me i wait now until Wildstar comes about, if that fails then im getting desperate my only other hope is AoD which im doubting if it will EVER come out.
This post is all my opinion, but I welcome debate on anything i have put, however, personal slander / name calling belongs in game where of course you're welcome to call me names im often found lounging about in EvE online.

Have to remember, that DAoC is of the Pre-WoW era, where a game was considered a success even if it had only 250,000 players, same as SWG and Everquest etc. Just a quick note, Skyrim apparently moved around 7 million boxes.
So its entirely probable that DAoC fans have 'flocked' to ESO, its just that their a drop in a very large pond, of which all the Elder Scrolls fans outnumber them by perhaps 20:1
DAoC - Excalibur & Camlann
Funny how a game with 250k has an insanely long run as a P2P game.
While games like SWTOR with measly 1million subs are turn into F2P games.
I haven't been keeping up with this, but has the game been marketed as the second coming of DAoC? I mean, suppose someone isn't specifically following ESO. What would draw them in as a DAoC fan? But yeah, millions versus a couple hundred thousand might be distorting the view of the population there.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
I KNOW I KNOW!!!!
Cuz its not DAoC....
I think the main reason is that DAoC offered some of the most visceral, skill based combat, where as this is an insanely boring target based system. In all honesty, I could see past the outdated graphics, the lack of refinement and polish and so on because as others mentioned, the game has lots of depth and potential. But, the entire game combat mechanics will need a major overhaul or else it will never peak the interest of pvp oriented individuals.
TL:DR , the combat is boring, boring and slow.

about 1: You know what last chance means right? I am not sure at all it will deliver but I hope.
about 2: After ESO implodes I doubt anyone else will ever try to copy DAoC's RvR again. It only worked with DAoC after all. Devs don't seem to understand it and what made it great.

What evidence do you have that supports a lack of interest from DAOC fans?
Until you provide factual proof, you're just saying random crap and implying it to be factual.
I'm a DAOC fan and I'm interested in TESO.
I tried to dig up some old posts as an example, but finding specific ones from 10 years ago isn't going so well. It would have helped as my reasons aren't primarily mechanics or IP related
A big draw for me in DAoC was the bond instilled among my faction, and often among familiar enemies. There was a lot of goodnatured ribbing between the 3 realms on the forums. I can't see that happening in todays MMO atmosphere. In general the whole MMO landscape is just a lot more volatile than it was back then. While ESO might attract a mature community, I think the days of discovering that 90% (actual figure, science and math etc.) of people you run in to are massive gaming nerds thrilled to be taking part in a virtual fantasy world are gone.
That coupled with the lack of danger leave me feeling 'Meh, we'll see what happens', but so far not really seeing it. GW2 WvW was pretty well done, but also lacked any sense of urgency as there was no danger to realm or character as there was in DAoC, the losers just seemed to win more slowly than the actual winners. It's a post WoW world, we can't have losers.
Dying/wiping in DAoC was strategically painful, which added a slight thrill and wariness to every step you took while still alive - that was where the thrill was, not in the dying itself. That point seems to be lost on those that cry out against any penalties. The world was big and dangerous, allies were incredibly welcome - you had to look out for each other, even strangers.
If after release/more info is available it looks like the 3 way pvp setting has a tangible reward, instills a sense of accomplishment and encourages camaraderie, I'd probably check it out. However I can't see it having much harsher penalties or more powerful rewards than what GW2 has - which for me is a lot of fun in small doses, but not anywhere near as engrossing as RvR was in DAoC. It's going to be tough to recapture what DAoC did, and I don't know that an IP like ES, which has a broad spectrum of players, will be afforded the leeway to take the chances and risks required to make something special. I'm guessing they'll have to play it fairly safe and familiar to not alienate anyone.
Recent attempts at RvR have just felt like short & disposable PvP sessions rather than anything lasting and valuable. Add in the fact that ESO just looks clunky and cheap so far and there's less appeal. The painted on armour and the eternal dull lighting - its like its twilight constantly). I don't care too much about any of that in the end, great gameplay would easily overshadow unappealing graphics for me, but it's certainly not enticing.
A bit long winded, but sums up my personal reasons for not being too excited about ESO as a DAoC experience.
Me and a couple of my close friends are all getting TESO. We all started DAoC on release and played for years.
It may not be a DAoC replacement. But it sounds interesting enough to buy and play.
why? just why? lol.
the guy asked a simple question thats all, and people want proof? why are people so god damn on edge haha.
I am also interested to hear what people think OP as i missed the best days of DOAC. when i did eventualy play i found it to be the closest thing to EQ with pvp on the market. I just wish i had chance to really get to grips with it. So if Teso is going to be some kind of spiritual successor then im in.
As a former DAoC player I'm interested in TESO but not enthusiastic because while I like that the different factions have been different flavor with different races and classes available per faction(Something newer MMO players hate apparently),I'm skeptical about the open character progression in relation to RvR.
The thing about DAoC is that every class in every faction had distinct and useful roles to play in RvR and were needed for success, that's part of what made DAoC so great IMO.I can't see how that will be accomplished with a more open system like TESO but I'm prepared to give it a go.
Another "when did you stop beating your wife" thread?
Who says they're not? Are you the spokesperson for DAoC heads? Do people have to declare their allegiance and stick to it before games are even released? Will CU ever be released? Is there jail time involved for lying in forums?
So many questions... so few answers... so much BS...

Right tho? LOL. A guy can't even state his simple observations of general forum posts. And to DAS1337 show me proof that without factual proof i'm just saying random crap. Or by your very own standard, are you "saying random crap and implying it to be factual"?
Anyway, I gotta agree with the long winded post above. The combat is a bit different from DAoC that may turn some gents off. For me personally, I'm ok with the combat. But combat has never been a big thing for me, i'm more of a world/community kinda guy. But it will for sure be interesting to see the kind of gamers it pulls in with RvR. Will it be the hostile little punks (sorry if I offend you, btw no implication of age, simply maturity) or will it be the mature, fun, happy-go-lucky gamer looking to poke at other realms in a friendly manner and help along their realm instead of bashing newer players to the RvR. Because I have to agree, the community and atmosphere could really make or brake the RvR, especially in this post-WoW era of MMOs.

My thoughts are that you wouldn't even know if DAoC fans are flocking to the game or not so this post seems silly.
The little I know about DAoC is that it had very little PvE. Why would the fans flock to this game? Just curious and not making any kind of accusation or being a jerk.
