An expectation that the path of least resistance should also be the most entertaining
Typo I assume unless he really is wanting to make anther easy mode game but geez, read over your pitch page if you expect people to give you this much money. First impressions count and mine is bad now....
Game concept otherwise is pretty good but Pathfinder already took all my speculative MMO money.
Looks like software developers in the USA don't earn a lot of money. 10 people on his team, 4 years development time, 800K $, that's the huge amount of 20k per developer and year.
If you guys over the ocean really earn that little money I recommend that you come over to europe. And he even mentions himself that he needed 100 developers and five years to develop Vanguard.
Sorry, I can't take MMO kickstarters with such low budgets serious at all. Idealism is a great thing but there is such a thing as realism. And so far I haven't seen one released kickstarter MMO.
Originally posted by drakolas All of the information on their kickstarter is so vague, it sounds like they just have these ideas that they haven't even begun to design. They just make the same claims of every MMO ever without anything to really show how they will implement the ideas.
I actually agree with this.
I am the target audience of this game, but I have to say that the information on Kickstarter are pretty generic.
Yeah, it's a group oriented MMO (nice), it is challenging (great) and it doesn't want to appeal to everyone (cool).
But how they are going to deliver all the above?
Before I open my wallet I want to see more and hear more.
The video didn't show much, I mean they are 10 experienced developers and they can't even put together an in-game Demo of 3 minutes.
I know it is pre-alpha but I think they got nothing done yet, and everything is pretty much still on paper.
The campaign will run for 2 months, I am waiting to see more before I pledge my money.
By the way if any of the Devs is reading this, why you guys don't add a "name reservation" opyion to one of your packages?
I am willing to spend $100 to reserve my name (you will see lots of people upgrading from $45 to $100)
I donno... I loved EQ1 and Vanguard, but something feels totally off about this. Feels like a very lite MMO for a lot of money (3.8mill for PVP...?), when other indie teams are developing much heavier games with much less.
Getting powers off mobs you fight? I swear I played a F2P Asian game that did that and it really wasn't anything special...
Anyways, I don't have much substance behind my initial reaction, but my gut says it's a cash grab.
I have to wonder how anyone can think anything is going to come of this. You can't really crowd fund a MMO, hence the big content word up there is meaningless because they won't have the funding for it.
I guess Star Citizen isn't an MMO, or Camelot Unchained isn't an MMO, or Elite: Dangerous isn't an MMO, or ...
The only game you mention that is a MMO is Camelot Unchained and that is being self funded by the developers for the most part. Anything they get from crowd funding is a small part of the pie.
Also the people involved in Star Citizen and Elite:Dangerous have far better reputations than Brad. He won't pull in anything close what those other designers do.
SOOOO freekin excited about this project, EQ/Vanguard were 2 of the greatest real MMORPG's ever made, now i just need to freeze my self for thhe next couple of years haha

Mehh i guess so, its pre alpha though so plenty of time to polish the graphics, that being said, i would play it just as it is as long as it has that EQ/VG flavor of gameplay, and i would love every second of it .

yeah I guess thats not fair considering the repop has been in development longer so it has more things ironed out and in videos to show.

You know, the first or second week is usually when most of the funding comes in. After than it is a slow trickle.
Yes I do know, but still 20k in a day (maybe hours, since we don't know what time they posted it) is quite ipressive.
Anyway it was just to point out that comparing a campaign that just started with another that is rolling alrady for 11 days, don't make sense
Actually the Pantheon team might as well have done a Camelot Unchained and shown nowt, pretty sure this will fly on Kickstarter the reputation will sell this alone, and yeah Repop has been going for quite a while now lot's of progress and has massive community following so silly even comparing them.
Look at SOTA's original pitch the graphics were crap to say the least but given money and a talented team and head designer makes a world of difference,so you can't judge the game by the pitch video just the concept and how the game will hopefully turn out.

that made me lol
If I want a world in which people can purchase success and power with cash, I'll play Real Life. Keep Virtual Worlds Virtual!

kinda funny how the repopulation kickstarter alone puts this to shame
SOOOO freekin excited about this project, EQ/Vanguard were 2 of the greatest real MMORPG's ever made, now i just need to freeze my self for thhe next couple of years haha
P.S. Can it MMOGUY no one cares about that crap.
The shame is this game will probably raise a heap more money than the repopulation even though I don't see it deserving of that money.
Well, to be honest Pantheon raised already 20K in 1 day while The repop is on 80K in 11 days.
If Pantheon keep up with this pace (20k a day) it can easily reach $ 1 Million by the end of the 2 months.
SotA and CU are stuck on 2-3 Millions
