I would never ever ever ever buy that. Because my expectations would be high and since it's Trion they would crush it.
Sure alpha is alpha but if they would give a fuck about the community then I would defenitly buy alpha package if they would add such a thing, but they dont so why would we throw money at an alpha when they couldn't give any fucks to their community?
Alpha in this game shouldnt mean anything. Its already out, only thing needing done is translation by Trion. Not like you are getting alpha graphics, alpha missions, alpha characters, etc......... Unless they are westernizing it I have no clue why the hell its taking 1 year +, know larger games that took half this amount of time.
They are doing more then changing the translation . of the game.....

The heck are they doing to the game? Are they "Westernizing" one word a day?
Have you worked in the video game industry? If you work in IT especially the video game industry has the lowest pay and some of the highest hours. If you are in the tech industry you only work for a video game company if you love video games. I am sure their people are working around the clock.
Besides think logically why would Trion want to pay their employees to work short hours? How would they profit off of that? They need to make money. Every day this game isn't out is more $$$ that loses interest and isn't in their pocket.
That being said they are probably making sure they do things right with a thorough change management process, and having their people work insane hours to make up the difference. (speaking from experience here )
It happens at any software development shop during product release. long hours.
Yup, I been a game designer for awhile, one thing I learned, that gamers like to bitch and moan about everything...
Unless ESO terribly bombs at the 1 or 2 month since release mark...based on that timeline this game is REKT. It will probably have a small community at launch.
If however ESO does bomb, then it comes out at an opportune time and does well
If however Wildstar comes out before this launches.....welp....enjoy your small player community of weeaboos.
TLDR - Things don't look too good unless everyone else fails horribly.
True, it does ultimately depend on whether or not TESO does well. As for Wildstar, I haven't seen as much hype for it across the board. So I don't believe it'll factor in as heavily. So yea... pretty much timing. I'll just be happy to see a game with some sandbox elements instead of just pure themepark.

My experiences with Defiance and Trove is that they very much do "give a !@#$" about the community. Sorry if you don't feel like they do.
Just wow. Evidently someone has categorically not had much in the way of "experience" with Defiance and Trion's treatment of the community that plays the game. Head on over the official forums and see how for 9 months -many- folks like Arsenic_Touch have been trying to get issues address AND fixed and instead have met with so much run around otherwise.
Trion's attitude with regards to Defiance is -exactly- why I or others have little in the way of trust in regards to their being capable of treating the AA potential players any better.

At least you help give ample evidence to support player concerns of lemons in the industry by being a typical example of an unscrupulous developer that enjoys patronization and derision towards those that feed em.

Except hes right, players do bitch and moan about everything. This website is a perfect example. Its one of the whiniest forums on the internet.
"What other modern MMO lets you build your own plantation, drydock, and craft a boat from scratch?", quoted from article.
The answer is Wurm Online does. I really expect AA to be Wurm + Money for Graphics, Animations, and other Assets. The problem with Wurm is that it is to real. I expect AA to be dumbed down and less real like any other AAA MMO.
Pardon any spelling errors
Konfess your cyns and some maybe forgiven Boy: Why can't I talk to Him? Mom: We don't talk to Priests. As if it could exist, without being payed for. F2P means you get what you paid for. Pay nothing, get nothing. Even telemarketers wouldn't think that. It costs money to play. Therefore P2W.
I'll admit, Archeage does cater to a different audience than ESO and Wildstar (only to some extent. Wildstar has argueably better housing). But right now I'm pretty sure there are many other gamers like me who have been MMO-less for some time now and will literally jump on the first MMO of the 3 mentioned above. Even if just for time killing purposes!
Having some 'testing' experience I'm pretty sure one of those titles has nailed its targeted market and will greatly appeal to it - at least on the boxes front. So I'm pretty sure I know which one will sell most boxes.
As for which one will have a good subscriber base 3 months later...its pretty much up in the air. Wildstar may be the one given its similarity to...everything.
Currently waiting for the MMO industry to put out something good.
Didn't Cartmen do this in South Park. Set up a commercial to advertise his Theme Park, but the catch was no one was allowed to come.
Anyways, AA in the Western world has been a long time coming (almost too long). As it stands, I'm not sure how this game will do now. There was a lot of hype on this site for AA a year or 2 ago. Had it released then, I think the game would have done fairly well (The timing for it would have been perfect). Now, there are several big name MMORPG's around the corner and it looks like they will all be releasing around the same time. Wildstar, ESO, EQN/L are just some on the top of the list and to be honest, AA seems to be a distant thought when thinking about that list.
Just thought I'd re-post this link to a very thorough and seemingly even handed look at Archeage. Thanks to the author, and whoever fist put the link up here at mmorpg.com:
Oh, well .. you had your time AA , but WildStar took it ( and your cars, lasers, nukes and shits ) .
By the time you'll release , AA , I will be playing Wildstar.
Thank you.
PS: LOL @ people who believes that westernizing the game means more then your typical text!
Sure, it means. Like .. font style of the text. Should it be Strong, Italic or maaaaaaaaybe .. underline ?! Hm, they might go for right align text
or maybe... center?
But what about the font size? Well, I hope they will figure it out in about 1 year?
All in all, thanks for readying this.
Hm .. what color should they choose?
Reporter: What's behind Blizzard success, and how do you make your gamers happy? Blizzard Boss: Making gamers happy is not my concern, making money.. yes!
This was largely the experience with Star Wars Galaxies. You weren't on some linear climb to the top level, you just enjoyed the game world by yourself, or with other people. It rocked. This is a bold clam by Trion, and it's one I would like to see delivered.
Having said that, this game has taken so long to even get to super-secret closed beta, that it's damned near irrelevant, and will be facing some brand new stiff competition when it finally releases.
A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.
I'd also like to add that this game would be perfect for Steam Greenlight, considering how late to market it is, and because this could help it start building a strong player base before official launch. If anyone from Trion is reading this; I would pay for Greenlight access on Steam.

off topic, that's a Harmon Kardon Stereo system, had it!
I'm more of an Onkyo man myself, but HK was awesome back in the day (when people had rack stereos at home)...

How is this game considered a sandbox when it has quest hubs and levels? The article seems to imply that because it has crafting that that makes it a sandbox.

Westernizing is more than just translating. It's about re-writing the content to be more appealing to Western cultures.

I am excited about this! 2014 launch! I have faith the Trion can "westernize" this enough so the masses will enjoy it.
Freakin EPIC.........
Can't wait for this. Definitely taking a week or two off from work at launch.
The best house plots will be mine, oh yes, all mine. Don't be jealous bisshes now.
Whatever happened to the IN BIOWARE WE TRUST signatures?
