Yea but they are working on making the PvE amazing. With really good PvE you dont always need PvP and they do plan to add some form of pvp in the future anyways.
Did you just find this out? "This Game" as you refer it too (DDO) have said this from the beginning of developement. If you are so hard core PVP then don't play DDO. PVP has been ran to death on the main DDO web forums.
Also do me a favor and post "Where's the PvP?" on www.ddo.com in the members section and see how much you are loved! now when you do this please be intellegent, for there are a lot of D&D fans on that site!
And for the comment of "Without PvP you will only go so far!" Well there are alot more to MMORPGs and ORPGs than just PvP. I do not think that all the titles that I have played have just PvP on their minds.
For Example: UO,EQ,EQOA,EQ2,DAOC,AC,AC2, MO,CoH,SWG,WOW,FF
Just to name some of the games! I have noticed Roleplay is the key to the online world the PvP players is but a small section on each server! Unless there is a server dedicated to the PvP players then that just means I do not have to worry about some person bothering me while I am trying to roleplay.
Why is everyone so obsessed with PvP? I've only met a very few "intelligent" pvp'ers. The vast majority are pre-pubescent like kiddies that need to prove they have something downstairs.
Anyway, like the poster above me said, the developers are doing an amazing job on the PvE, which is what dnd is all about, not about "my d!ck is bigger than yours". This is a game that satisfies a more mature style of play, or at least I am hoping it will
I am saddened that DDO does not plan to impliment PvP (until later, and to a limited degree). Having played DnD paper rpg for many years I was hoping for a mmorpg with some sense of alignment, which could be determined by players actions (UO did an ok job at this). PvP helps break up the monotony of the game (getting attacked while traveling, questing, ect...). PVE games tend to become repititous. Eventually if you fight a mob enough you learn its habits, and end up pressing the same sequence of buttons/actions/etc... (whereas players, not all, but usually most, utilize different tactics than mobs). I see the developers and the rp'rs point of view. I was just hoping for something new; not another fantasy based mob grind with a chat window.
People need to realize that PvP just isn't appropriate for DDO--that's all there is to it.
Even the 'alignment' excuse that some people bring up doesn't really hold any water. Sure, you can technically be an evil character in PnP D&D, but the vast majority of the time the evil characters are portrayed by the DM as the villians and enemies the PCs face. Although the option is there, D&D doesn't really encourage evil PCs who backstab and kill each other--it just defeats the cooperation-based group dynamic that the game is based on.
I have nothing against PvP at all in other games, but I'm certianly glad DDO will have none of it, and I hope it never will
D&D is about team work, tactics, and strategy. Not about one man gank fests. PVP would not really work in the way it works in other mmo's. I think personally PVP could work if it were implimented in a team environment, not just free open pvp. Maybe like instanced dundgeons that feature possible conflict, like the goal is some ancient artifact and more than one group can enter but only one group wins the prize. Groups of "good" players might work it out peacefully while it would be possible for those less diplomatic to fight it out. Of course there could always be arena battles and fighting tournaments which would make sense but that isnt what most think when they say "pvp".
To any PvP trash enforcers: DIE HERETICS! You never even know what D&D is, and you come complaining about irrelevant stuff, go play CS since the devs will be happy to let me torture your souls in an eternal PvE setting! Cyric glory will shine accross the multiverse and we will storm upon that Eberronland, just let us the time to figure it out! You will see!
(Eh, do you really believe Eberron will be free of FR fans?)

What's wrong with Forgotten Realms fans? They've got move campaign settings than anyother DnD modules. Sure some of the novels are corny, but for the most part the realm is well put together.
I see what many of you are saying about PvP...I am a hardcore PvP starting with UO to L2 to DAOC. Why people love PVP? well because sometimes mobs dont cut it for us. Meaning a MOB always does the SAME FREAKING THING. It dosnt change its strat you what i mean. Dont get me wrong there are some MOBs in SOME games that do RANDOM THINGS every time, but most do the same thing all the time, the only thing that changes is the level and the way it looks and hits. BUT Enough about that. This game is awesome even for SOMEONE like me who loves to PvP. What i would love to SEE atleast is to have 1on1 duels. Duels never hurt anyone, you know friends just messing arround fighting 1on1 for fun NO HARM DONE to ANYONE. ATMOST what i WOULD FREAKING GO TO HELLS end for IS A PvP server if they have that...THIS is also HARMLESS to "carebears" because if you dont want PvP well go to a NoNE PVP server and HAVE fun...You know what i mean...THIS way all of the Community will be happy. Plus all you guys who say the PvP are bunch of kids you will be able to get rid of them all with one sweep.
Theres always a way to make both sides happy and i think this will

LOL, good one.
I for one hardly ever participate in PvP, can't stand it. I just focus on the roleplaying and have a lot of fun!
I just hope they can make this game as good as they promise... but that's another discussion.
Played: AC, AC2, Anarchy Online, AoC, D&D Online, Dark+Light, EQ2, EVE Online, FF XI, Guild Wars, Lineage II, Lotro, Ragnarok, Ryzom, Star Wars Galaxies, Ultima Online, WAR, WoW, etc. Also various MUDs
I sincerely hope that some dev team out there catches on the idea of bringing Fight Club to an MMORPG audience. That way, the people beating the hell out of each other will one day realize that they have been beating on themselves (innuendo intended).
I have never once fought another player in D&D. Fighting among your party would be pointless. Why do you think the DM has alignment restrictions when creating a party? Because putting two or more people together who would fight IS NOT HEROIC!
Would I be opposed to a party vs. party combat situation? No, actually - provided it was well role-played. Player versus Player has to be done right and D&D isn't meant for it.
I would reach my character limit and then some if I were to list all the games already built for PvP. Go play one!
Having said that, there is a truckload of games coming out with open PvP. Knock yourself out with the other 100,000 gamers who like to have their godlike characters kill brand new characters for their daily dose of ego-pumping.
There are many, many games designed in Southeast Asia that cater specifically to your tastes, with even more on the way. Then again, there are just as many games out of the same region that are ten times more "carebear" than American/Euro games.
Thank god there is no PvP, that means people like the original poster will not be playing the game (did he seem mature to you?). Yes, many people are probably staying away because there is no PvP - the sort of people the rest of us would be willing to pay extra just to get rid of.
Understand that trying to balance all classes for both PvP and PvE is a doomed effort; one of the two would suffer, and since PvP players usually are whining kids (just go look at World of Warcraft), they whine so hard that the class balance for PvE will eventually be ruined. We don't want that. This game has been intended for cooperative group play, go play something else if you don't like that.
but Dungeons and Dragons doesnt do PvP well.. it was never made for it. the game is cooperative and the spells and skills are balanced player vs monster..

Im not a big fan of instaces either. So this ones got 2 strikes against it and its not even up to bat yet.
Since when does a game 'have' to have something for everyone? I honestly don't see what the big deal is. Aren't there enough games with PvP in them to choose from already?
Thank the gods there will be no PvP! That means no constant nerfing in the effert to make magic users and thieves equal in every way. Because the first time a 25th level MU killed an army of melee types the nerf bat would be swinging.
D&D was always bout making any decision. I think PvP based off alignment would be really nice. Of course, I'm against PvP in xp areas. I'd like to see PvP areas with rewards. Like a city at war with 2 sides against each other. Guilds against each other, and the winner takes a hefty winnings home.
no its fine with me let them make a pve game. i for one cant get into pve that much. the ai in mmorpgs can only go so fare. they can make it but im not playing it.

Learn from CoH and EQ2, without PvP you're only going to get so far.

Go here and watch the interview with Ken Troop. It will tell you his stance on PvP.

The Realms has been done to death; that's the only thing that's 'wrong' with it in my opinion. I'm actually surprised more people aren't sick of it.
I mean, HOW many D&D games have been set in the Realms? Pretty much all of them
