Out of curiosity, what the heck do you guys plan on doing at the level limit? Sit around a RP? Sorry, but id rather not pay monthly for a game that ends at the level req and thne you sit around and talk to each other. We all know there is nothing to do at the level req but grind for better equipment and PvP. I mean seriously all of you are going to quit playing after you each reach the max level.
"man im so bored, theres nothing to do but get better equipment" will be what everyone is thinking. This mmorpg cant last long without SOME sort of PvP. No fantasy mmorpgs can last long without some sort of PvP.
if im wrong just reply, id love to know what you guys plan on doing. Maybe ill pick this up if the PvE is great, which i doubt.

Many options:
- Epic levels
- New characters
- Hardcores servers
- Stacking many characters level 20+ if there is a reason to stack them(a side game based on Magic the Gathering maybe?, or on past game based turn systems? Or both? Or maybe something based on Heroes of Might and Magic, but a variation that require tons of characters with levels for you to earn?)
- Trying new Prestige class...hmmm by the time I level each prestige class that exist in D&D to the wanted level...
- New expensions with new continents and new races, where you cant bring old toons!
- D&D systems for accessing the ''Divine'' status and slowly becoming a God...that would be EXTREMELY long(after many epic levels and some incredibles challenges) even FFXI and SWG jedi stuff would look like a sunday drive.
- As a last resort, I can temporarily cancel my subscription until they release new interesting stuff, which mean I may leave and come back like 40 times in the next 20 years if the game is good but not complete. And I would LOOOOVE the game and cheerish my devs! Althought I may try to ''lash them'' so they work more, but it is easy to understand my motives and that I indeed will buy the next expension, so no point to rush it and risk wasting my interest, the longer I wait, the more I will annoy the staff at EBgames/FutureShop...hardly Turbine issues!
And lastly, I dunno if D&Donline will be easy to level up. But the D&Dfan is the most grind tolerating fanbase to have ever existed. We play with Living Greyhawk. We play with tons of extremely long grind systems. We can play 1 more. Even if they make it fast to level at launch, in an expension, in another D&D world, the XP can be hellish hard to gain there...and a Forgotten Realms expension would drive back in all the players who left + many news, and yes, the grind could be awfull in FR! A toon in Eberron may very well be limited to play...in Eberron all the time! So each world(expension) could have it own rules and setting!
PS: If I sound ''weird'' to you, and not because of my english, but because of the content of what I write, then I suppose you are relatively new to D&D and will be happy to welcome you. Have no fear, I am sure D&Donline will have something for us all...if we show it the support it need, Wizard of the Coast is able to kick Turbine hard enought so they work non-stop on this, to expend the world and the gameplays. Heck, I see no problem with an expension in a world where everyone have to raid, maybe something with Mechanus(order plane) and other LAWFULL planes would be well fit for a raiding setting base, since raiding is definitely a lawfull concept(guilds and individual can be chaotic). Yes, eventually they may build an expension for PvPers, why not? I would not play it anymore then I would play something about raiding, but as long as they keep feeding me in grouping or soloing stuff and I dont feel like I need to go raid or PvP, I would only be happy and avoid paying for expensions I dont want.
PPS: Turbine could easily hire SoE to design the raiding setting(with strict no grouping or soloing at all in this gameworld at start) or Mythic for the PvP when they get enought profit, so they can always focus on what they do, and let others focus on the side aspects they dont want and they know others excell in. I dunno if those companies would say yes to work for another, but I know there are many companies who would.

omg ana you cant put epic level handbook in DDO...it would just be ridiculous...go ahead roll up a level 80 monk, the only thing you can do against one is melee (and good luck connecting with a hit) as any ranged attack whatsoever (missile weapons, magic, hell even technology) is deflected back at the originator
It's as simple as this. If you don't like it, then don't friggin play. No one is twisting your gd arm to play DDO, or any other MMO for that matter. Personally, I'll be more than happy if even a fraction of the little crybaby griefers stay away from DDO, just because it means I won't have to put up with their childishness. PvP is fine in some games, crappy in others, but most hardcore pvpers are asses, plain and simple. It belongs in games like DAoC where it IS the endgame. It does not belong in DDO for reasons that have been stated more than enough times. So I say again, if you don't like, then don't play. Meanwhile, the rest of us who are fine with no pvp in DDO will happily go along our way.
there is alot of what u ppl r wanting whats alrdy on the market,,,so what u want another just so u can try it for a few months then quit,,,,look bottom line is DnD PnP had alot of things that u could do that a computer just can't handle,,it don't have the room or it can't compute it,,,if u want pvp so bad,,,go to where it is alrdy and stop trying to change this game to your own agenda,,,most hard core pvp don't care about anything but themselves and that is what DDO says they don't want,,besides if it has perma-death by chance,,then what do u want to gain from PvP,,to keep rollin more toons,,lol,,i bet it's to have other ppl roll more toons just to do it
I just don't see what the big deal is when it comes to PvP. It can be fun at times, but honestly, who wants to get jumped all the time if you're just out hunting doing your thing? Yeah, there are honest match-ups that are set up ahead of time, but there are always people out there who get a kick out ruining someone else's fun by jumping them. This game looks awesome.
Originally posted by jackman11118 anofalye, are they putting all that in? Have they said they would? I dont really belive they would put all that in and good content.
Nope, those are merely ''possibles'' futures. They either never talk about those subject, or keep them vague as possible roads for expensions.
Epics levels for exemple was ''dodged'' with a ''maybe in expensions''.
As to the other person saying an epic monk is unmatchable, I am sorry to break you bubble, but a monk level 80 would have see all his deflects/reflected abilities CAPPED, and I would be able to take him out with a single wizard not even epic level, barely level 20, with indirect effect if you just allow me to strike through a teleport without error and attack from the air. And no, the monk would not be the direct target of my attack. So a level 80 wizards, with spells according to his level would be beyond the scale, as casting a timestop could be a free action, that he can do at will, for a level 10 slot...basically it mean that the monk never play, the wizard get all his spells in place and teleport back out before the monk even act once, and then the timestop goes off...and no, the monk cant survive this(monsters summoning would be the smallest problems and could kill him alone). Yet this is assuming they would add nothing, those epics levels are meant for level 30, not 80, I would bet that wizards would get new spells that cant be dodged, resisted, returned or resisted in anyway(like in any classic D&D adventure, past level 30, wizard break spell turning or resistance effect and actually burnt fire elementals)...but again, this is all pure speculation, but monks was 1 of the weakest choice for a ''strongest epic character'', althought 1 that require the less thinking and always start relatively strong...I am not even sure the monk 80 would be able to match a warrior the same level...+80 attack base(for at least 150 total with modifiers) would be quite mean, add a few scout(to drop it to +76 base attack) levels and make it a dervish warrior(prestige class) and the monk is in deep troubles IMO. Again this is pure speculation, as those epics level are meant for level 30, not 80. And I didnt even start to consider the smite law options.

I like PvP, but the idea of only advancing via quests, and making the quest content dynamic, is intriguing. It's just a different type of MMO, and frankly, I could use a change. I'm tired of the traditional mob-spawn model.
PvP or not...i plan on playing this game simply cuz it is d&d...i've never done much pvp in d&d in the p&p games, so it don't matter if there's pvp in the online game either
Sorry, but this would be nice for a free trial w/o buying the client but w/o HARDCORE d&d rulesets where everything you do could mean death - This game is a no go for me.
Sorry but I have played only pvp games (exception for FFXI and EQ2) and I must say, w/o pvp a game gets boring I do not want to pay 15 dollars a month to have a chatroom where you can kill monsters.
I want in depth pvp where any action can cost you dearly, just like the original ADD was.
People think it's fun to pretend your a monster. Me I spend my life pretending I'm not. - Dexter Morgan
I'm not a PvP fan, I'm not a kiddie but I agree it's fun once in a while to break boredom of PvE.
Anyway, as online games tend to take great steps each year, I have yet to see a game that lets me stare down another player, duel him or impose in a party by force at a limited degree.
Yes I do want to fear that evil aligned player, it will bring great repercutions to both if we fight but I can if I have to.
Bring me a game that implements this style, I'll play it!
PvP is a key to a good game. Look at WoW that game is good,. (Yes it gets boring) but the pvp was fun. I feel you need PvP to balance the game out. But I will still try this game and maybe fall in love with it. You never know

Well... I think that is an opinion. Quite Frankly... for the small bit I played WoW, I never pvp'ed but really thought the quests were so well done that I actually kept my subscription for a little bit because they were so fun.
Only really stopped playing because the world was just to "cartoony" for me.
There are many people who hate pvp and in some cases there is good reason. Very few people want to log into a game and get ganked by some kid who has nothing to do except to play all day to become "uber".
And sometimes there are just people who don't want to pvp... it's not why they play.
however... having some sort of pvp could be nice for the people who enjoy that sort of thing. Usually though, they complain about it because they either can't pvp anyone at any time or that they are usually taken by roving groups of gankers.
Seems to me that pvp is something that always needs to be thought about before implementation.
As far as this game is concerned, they really want to concentrate on making it a virtual "Dungeon crawl" so I think we should just cut them some slack. That means that this game might not be for some people. But that's ok.
How many of you are screaming that there is no pvp in "The Sims Online".
Not every game is about pvp.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
PvP has its place, but in all honesty it better be as far away from DnD as possible.
However i would like to see arena fights, something we often used on our PnP sessions to finetune tactics and whatnot.
But in the end of all MMO's ever created DnD is the one least suited for PvP, even suggesting it is like wanting light sabers in The fellowship of the ring, it is heresy.

I'm not a big pvper but I still have to admit that the biggest rush I've ever had from a game was from pvp combat. I've had some moments like that in some pve as well, though, not so much in combat as much as the big escape from a collapsing building or a last second exfil from an exploding island.
Oh, and pvp may be necessary to keep the DnD fans from getting too bored. When they play dnd (in any form it is currently played in outside of video games) they are only limited in content by the imagination of the current DM. Not to mention the fact that they can react with any action they can think of. Hell, they could be fighting a dragon and having a hell of a time whilst the halfing thief decides to sit in the corner and wank it awhile.
Things are more limited in video games. It is limited by not only the imagination of the devs (I guess now they're DMs) but also of the time contraints set forth by their bosses and the technical contraints of their equipment. They can't pump content out as fast as the players will go through it. They can only hope to make it big for the first run and hope they can make a big expansion later on so people don't get bored. That's where pvp will play a role. It leaves somthing else to do that can be very unpredictable. I've never had a challenge like another player.

I think as long as they add enough depth to the roleplaying ascept of the game PvP won't be missed to much!
It won't be easy though providing enough content for players to stay, but I really hope they can manage it
