A great deal of the hate is coming from people who don't like the sub-Model and take any opportunity to voice any opinion that harms said sub-Modeled games.
Then there is the group of people who play a short time in the Beta and judge the game off of the first ~10 levels and a relatively low amount of playtime.
There are also those who just don't think Skyrim should have been made into an MMO, nothin wrong with that.
Then we are left with the pessimists who are pessimistic about any new game - and I can't blame them. A lot of the games released with high expectations can't seem to pull it off in the end. Whether this is due to the massive hyping that the publisher pushes or that the game is just garbage is of course anyone's opinion.
There are also the WTFavists, who think ESO's pre-order bonus is infringing on their civil rights and will lead to other questionable business practices in the future, not just from Zenimax but all electronic entertainment companies. They're still buying it though they just want to voice their opposition.
While I think the Elder Scrolls series is 'ok' I love the MMORPG adaptation of it. The beta was great, the quests(story) and voice overs were amazing. I enjoyed every minute of it and I can't wait to experience the PVP it has to offer as well.
The crafting was also a positive experience as I did not realise how 'deep' it was.
I haven't been following this MMORPG at all but I've now secured my Imp(digital) version.
The game is receiving a lot of bad press but I do not feel that this is an accurate reflection of the game. Going by previous releases, not having the hype from reviews may be beneficial to the game and most of the MMORPGs I've purchased based of 'good' reviews have been lacklustre at best.

Lol, those people crack me up. They are the same people who if you debate them on the merits of "global warming" they act as though you're trying to kill their first born.
I'm in. I had the privilege to play from beta 1 on and have seen the game grow a lot. I am not a big ES fan but I do like this one. I actually pre-ordered another title and think I messed up.

I don't think it heralds the end of days or any such nonsense like that but I do see it as another in a long line of steps to the eventual result of games sold ala carte. Welcome to the level 10 dungeon that will be .99 cents to enter please. That's a cool new piece of purple gear you just looted that will be $1.99 to equip it please.
But it doesn't matter at this point if Zenimax does this or not it's the road this industry is on.

Somebody, somewhere has better skills as you have, more experience as you have, is smarter than you, has more friends as you do and can stay online longer. Just pray he's not out to get you.
I logged on after a friend told me this game was awesome. Found out this was heavily quest-based which, to me, destroy teaming-up/co-op mode of leveling, ended up never being able to do anything with him. Had some fun out of the combat but then got repetitive even with new generic abilities of later levels of the beta.
Animations have been made smoother and with more efficient transition between standing->walking->>combat 10 years ago than in this game; seriously you jump and you look like someone is lifting you with an invisible hand up your butt and you swing a sword with your torso ignoring whats below your waist saying fuck you lower part of my body I do what I want.
I liked the crafting for what i've seen except the abuse of empty bag space to collect all that junk to make more junk to combine with more junk to finally make a part of more junk that will be used to create something that isn't junk (except cooking I guess).
My bag was constantly full 50/50 of the stuff you collect for tradeskills, so yeah I had to do tradeskill runs separately than my quest runs.
I still remember Wow's beta and being blown away by how much of a step-up it was from EQ, I didn't feel as if ESO was such a big step-up so far.
