So the general census is that TESO should be F2P and not P2P?

I'll give it a try when it goes F2P in 3 months. Hopefully they can release that magically patch that actually makes the game good.

Yeah I cant wait to try all those really bad free to play games that are already out either... oh wait

And that is where opinions come in. What I like you may dislike.

Its a nice opinion I suppose. Just F2P in 3 months, bit unlikely time scale. I just found it weird you would play a game you think "isnt good" even if it was free.

Trying a game and playing a game are different things. As it is, it looks like a bad game. I could be wrong, but I'm not going to pay to find out if I am right or not.

So you wouldn't even pay for a game you liked? Sounds logical.

Most people spend $15 dollars within the first 10 mins in a bar.

ten minutes!? that is a very good skill! my buddy spends like 100 bucks in that time.  lol but really, i dont care either way.. though i usually like monthly sub games since i spend more on F2P than i do on a monthly subscription. now if they put anything on the in game store like convenience items (which they probably will) then i will be pissed

    I believe you have misread.

If I like a game, sure, I'll pay for it. Right now, TESO looks like crap to me. I'm not going to waste money on it just to find out if it really is crap or not.

If it was F2P, I can at least give the game a chance. Maybe it will surprise me.

There is a limited lift of the NDA for the beta for levels 1-15.

Before I go on, first let me be clear, I hate the free to play model. I would rather just pay 15$ and not have to look at all the nice things I can't have (like that super awesome mount of awesomeness that takes 200$ in gambling addiction to maybe get).

That said, after playing the beta for about 10 levels, I will not buy the game and will certainly not pay 15$ a month to play it. I think the game was well made, has lots of interesting plot, good graphics, epic music and an interesting customization system, but in the end, the game is broken for me for one main reason... I found it boring.

The boredom breaks down to two main problems for me:

    1) You can pick 5 abilities (you can only have 5 abilities on your hotbar), use them for the entire game, and then use the rest of your skill points on passives which are just generic power increases. I had all but one of the abilities that I wanted for my final build I had in mind by level 5 which meant the only character development I was looking forward to was generic power increases (more damage, more health, more magica, more stamina, more regen etc...). I also knew that I would be using pretty much the same 5 abilities at level 50 as at level 5. My rotation was mind numbingly simple, repetitive and effective. It seemed like a waste that I had access to so many different fighting styles, but that by diversifying, I was just making myself weaker by spending points that could be better used on making just those 5 abilities work better (mostly through passives). Keep in mind, you can eventually get enough points to diversify without gimping yourself, but that is far down the leveling line.

    2) Most of your time is spent running around doing nothing. This was the big one for me. I can fight stuff, but most of the time it is pointless and the majority of battles can be avoided. In the end I was just looking for an NPC, listening to their story, running around, and then talking to the next NPC before being sent to run around some more. If you only fight when you have to, battle only makes up a small fraction (definitely far less than 1/4) of your time in Tamriel. Imagine a game made mostly of fetch quests, clicky, and talk to NPC X quests, only many of the items to fetch or click and other NPCs to talk to are far away with nothing to do between them (no enemies to fight, and no side quests... except for perhaps more fetch/talk to NPC quests). The game would be even more flawed if you HAD to fight a lot in between since you cannot chain fight anything as you have to wait for your magica and/or stamina to recharge to use any abilities on your hotbar. The only thing that I would kill with a 'kill 20 goblins' quest would be my sanity as I spend more time waiting for my magica and stamina to regen than fighting.

Perhaps these issues are not so dominant in the upper levels, but I don't think I can drag myself through the lower levels to get to that point. Even if these issues do eventually get addresses, I will be disheartened that I can no longer get the pre-order or CE perks long after launch, discouraging me from making a purchase even in the future (a nasty side-effect of pre-order benefits).

(Or maybe it's just that I'm old, grumpy and bitter?). :)

I agree with what you have to say about the free to play, but the console support
is just a godsend for this game.

Consoles nowdays are just as powerful as computers and help support MMO's, If FF14 was computer only this game would be going free to play withing the next few months, I know this because more people play games on consoles then computers, afterall consoles are for gaming only, you should be graatful that this game is supporting console at this point because of all the hate from the computer beta tests, this game will not fail because it supports, Ps4, Xbox one Mac & PC, this is the only game in the world that supports all four platforms.

If this game fails I would be shocked.

Cash Shops are actually a lot more dishonest than sub fees.  In a sub fee you are getting all the content in the game (usually).  ESO has a cash shop and I am a bit worried about that.  Even though it's just cosmetic items.  Cash Shops prey on peoples inability control their impulses similar to gambling.  They know a lot of people will cave in.  Guild Wars has a nice idea, but I don't believe it is of high quality at all.  They don't even have consistent amount of money coming in to make improvements and maintain the servers.  The first game was horrid IMO.  I haven't tried the second game.  I'd rather pay the subscription, have access to all content, and not have to worry about paywalls.  The money from the sub usually goes towards new content.  The bad part again is if they use the cash shop a lot in addition to the subscription.[/b][/quote]

I just dont' agree. The sub fees go into the devs pockets, I have not seen any proof that they make the games better because the B2P games and F2P games that have come out put out new content faster than the sub games. Sub games rely heavily on expansions to make money. The sub fees do nothing other than making the game really obnoxious to come back to after you quit.

I'm a little surprised about these two points you made, i played a nightstalker to level 15 and at that level i had a very hard time deciding what to put on my ability bar, you say you will have the same abilities at level 50 as level 5? Highly unlikely. The ultimate ability alone has a dozen choices. So it shows you havent played it all the way trough.

    In reference to point two.

What playstyle do you have? You are avoiding combat to finish quests and you do nothing in between? Yes that gets boring REAL quick. How about exploring? I found dozens of chests, lore books, skill books. Crafting nodes everywhere that makes you usefull items every 2 levels. And skyshards ofcourse. Even some hidden quests found in books by reference to local geography. And i had no issue with stamina or magicka regen, i had numerous glyphs installed that increased both pools, with passives increasing regen rates. And combat doesnt involve using purely skills, you swinging your weapon does damage to and interrupting or shield blocking is a solid tactic.

Just showing you how vastly different the experience can be for people.

I'm also very much anti free 2 play, it's a bad system but it did blur the border between pay and then sub and completely free to play. Im a little in between atm, USA's easy money conversion takes people living in a different country up the bum.
