So if you want to become a proficient MASTER blacksmith capable of making any piece with any trait your looking at 15 months (1 year 3 months) total if my calculations are correct

Holy crap... Where do they post how much time it takes for research? If you research multiple things at the same time isn't it less total time overall to finish? Like 1 item is 6 hours, 2 items is 10 hours for both?

Yes, at the very, very top when you know everything there (currently) is to know about crafting, you are identical to everyone else who knows everything there (currently) is to know about crafting.  Assuming future content updates don't dump more to learn on you than you have time to learn, so that you never do actually reach that point...

But it's during the time you spend getting to that point that differences will be apparent.  So the longer that time is, the more time you have to distinguish yourself from the rest.

Still helps with rags to riches type of feeling. So does immersion honestly. PvP... sure, starting out as a novice recruit then leveling to a *whatever the highest PvP title is* helps with a rags to riches feeling.

From zero to hero. As it should be. image

City of Heroes was one of the exceptions to the "from rags to riches" rule though since you could make yourself an awesome outfit in the character creator before ever making it into game.

My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)

Speaking as a EVE-Online veteran... unless there is a skill point cap.. or the progression times for the skills get retardedly long... you will end up with no specialists and allot of Jack of all Trades.

I would argue that it's the lengthy progression times that are the main factor in encouraging diversity-over-specialization in Eve.  Taking over a month to learn level 5 piloting on your current hull (for small gain) versus about a week or two getting competent with a new hull, kind of encourages earlier diversification.

But yes, over time (at least in crafting) I predict that ESO will tend towards more JoaT's and few specialists at the top end.  Again, at the top end.

Skill points (based on interpretation of what was said on the official site) will be a 'moving cap,' the way other games have moving level caps:  future updates and expansions will release new skills to learn and new skillpoints to do it with.
