Elder Scrolls Online is pretty much the only AAA mmo we have coming from the west that's for sure. Wildstar is ftp mmo trying to act like a AAA ptp mmo. image

Well I would consider Wildstar a MMOFPS so that's why I didn't put it in my consideration.  But I should have said MMORPG instead of just "mmo" like I wrote.  My bad.  But it is one cool looking cartoon that I might try if I was still in elementary school.

Wildstar???  A FPS???  I'm not sure you know what a FPS is.  Have you even played it?  Wildstar is mostly traditional tab target combat with actiony type features.  It most certainly is NOT a FPS.  Planetside 2 is an mmofps.  Global Agenda is an mmofps.  Wildstar is not.

Have you played it?  Wildstar has absolutely no tab targeted skills.

You might want to look up what the word FPS means, Wildstar is in no way an FPS.

    2.  There aren't any other AAA mmo's in 2014.  If this busts after 6 months big deal, Everquest, Camelot Unchained won't be out for a loonnng time 2015/2016.

    3.  RvR looks to be huge landwise, lets just hope its not a 5 minute keep flipping circle jerk like gw2 wvwvw where every server rotates each others tires ad naseum

    4.  Combat is nothing like GW2 thank you very much

    5.  Very easy to get immersed in this game

So fingers crossed that the 1-2 month euphoria we all feel won't fade away like it did with GW2 & FFXIV & every other AAA mmo that's come out the past 5 years

ESO lore is epic so as long as I feel like i'm in an ESO game and not GW2, Tera, Wildstar, WoW, or any themepark with fotm themes i'll stick around and pay the sub.

BUT PLEASE NO ARENAS OR BGS!!!!!  You know how games start out cool, but then sell out (cough cough Archeage).  Please ESO don't sell out to the FPS shooter crowd and give arenas and bgs where players whack each other with sticks for points!!!

Keep the action funneled into RvR and/or the DF like dungeon (soon to be released I hope)

So to make it short you like ESO and every other game sucks. Is it just me or are you gonna be just another hater in 3 months after release whining about everything ESO has done and screaming out that they are selling out and there is nothing to do.

The game also runs great on almost any PC.  they're trying to attract a younger crowd.

Also lets stop bashing a game that in beta is as polished as any beta I've ever played and I played them all.   Just because we may not like the game does not mean it isn't a AAA game because it very much is and more people will play wildstar then ESO you can quote me on that.

Oh and so you cannot say im a fanboy.  I preordered ESO Imperial Edition and plan on playing ESO.

It is sad because Widlstar primary audience are HC raiders you know :) and developers have their reasons why graphics are cartoony, but we will see what will be better in 5-8 years. Cartoony graphic that lasts for many years, or old realistics graphic which no one wants to play anymore because there are 10x more realistic mmorpg released by then:) gl with that

You're also forgetting the major MMO expansion for WoW.  That should be out this year, and will most likely outsell the rest of the mention games combined.

I also don't really understand how people can say ArcheAge sold out, they just adapt to their market and that market is Korea, they add more grind because that's what Korea MMO players want, if anything ArcheAge is way to western and now they try and fix it by going more eastern market.

XLGames tried to open the Korean market with a few sandbox elements and it seems the audience ain't to keen about it.

There's a lot to like about Wildstar. And it IS a AAA MMORPG and not an FPS lol.

But the one thing I've never liked about it is it's self-conscious humor. It doesn't take itself very seriously and seems to be aimed at casuals who are not too sure if admitting that they really like MMORPGs is cool or socially acceptable. Like it laughs at itself first so you can say "see? I don't take this seriously either, I know it's just kid stuff." It's sort of like The Bard's Tale in this way: an RPG poking good natured fun at RPGs.

ESO on the other hand is fantasy that takes itself seriously without making excuses. It's more for people who like high-fantasy and don't feel a need to be apologetic about liking it even if it isn't written by Professor Tolkien or C.S. Lewis.

Not that there is anything wrong with humor or parody. But for me, the initial chuckle wears thin after a short while. Wildstar can be fun but it just feels like a game and ESO feels more like a world. They're aimed at two different audiences.

Yeah, not sure you know what AAA means.

Aside from definition, wildstar has way way WAY more hype and fanbase following it than arch age.  Second, what makes wildstar not a AAA mmo in 2014 but in 2004? If you say the graphics I will LOL at you.

you touched on a lot of the reasons why WS is not for me and i won't even give it a chance.

i don't hardcore raid anymore, i don't like structured battleground style pvp anymore, ive never liked cheesy cartoony graphics, and i take my character and the world he lives in very serious.

this is why it's good to have choices, people like different things and i am glad that there are people that like WS and want to play it.

i'm just not one of them.

And Idk what's wrong about Gw2 for you. Yesterday I sunk 10 hours in it, had some free time. Are you one of the folks that still thinks Gw2 has no LFG tool?  Or one of those that think you have to pay real money for bag space. xD

GW2 is the bar I measure all other MMO's I play against.  The Devs put a lot of love into that game. You could actually run into them playing their characters in game. From logging in without always putting in your pw to razzing players and always being able to give them a hand, grouped or not. I always feel like I had a good time rather playing half an hour or more.

Your statement isn't quite accurate either. The vast majority of skills are not tab targeted, but there are some like "leap" that are.

yea right, no other AAA releases, lol

Destiny - announced only for consoles, doesn't count.

EQN won't be released this year.

The Division won't be released this year (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/the-division-s-2014-release-window-is-laughable-claims-ubisoft-source-report/1100-6416976/)

    So, only ESO and Wildstar?

There's also EQ Landmark that will be coming out this year.

thanks for standing up and defending ESO,

I have only played mmos the last 4years and ESO is the best out of them all.

rift is nice but to old and I at least have got something to play this year.

destiny is an mmo and it counts even if its on console, take my advice and buy a cheap ps3 or xbox 360 and get it.

EQN has at least exploring and no levels whish is a good thing.

also we can start looking at the mo games like shroud of the avatar and kingdom come looks nice.

wild star had the perfect opportunity of releasing last year when there was no competition now its too late.

wild star can become great maybe in the future people said wow was crap in the beginning.

  • SomeOldBlokeSomeOldBloke Member UncommonPosts: 2,167

ESO never appealed to me as I never go into the Elder Scrolls series. I bought Skyrim in Steam Sales last summer but never got into it. In hindsight I think I was playing it wrong so I read up on it recently and am giving it another go, this time not blindly following the quest lines and nothing else. I will explore more and try other things.

If I get into it I may try ESO, if not, I will save my money.

(side note: Wildstar does not appeal to me at all - too cartoony and I hate the telegraphing - it ruins any game).
