Irony mean anything to you dude?
Irony? Certainly a F2P disney trash posing as an MMO is not something relevant to this discussion.
I assume you are not talking about Wildstar as that's a subscription based MMORPG.
BUT PLEASE NO ARENAS OR BGS!!!!! You know how games start out cool, but then sell out (cough cough Archeage). Please ESO don't sell out to the FPS shooter crowd and give arenas and bgs where players whack each other with sticks for points!!!
Keep the action funneled into RvR and/or the DF like dungeon (soon to be released I hope)
Don't see why the hate on for bgs/arenas. The great thing about bgs is its optional - you don't like it don't queue for it. And I wish ESO has that.
I like it because its a nice change of pace. Granted my main pvp focus will be AvA but after doing that or pveing for 3 hrs it's a nice change of pace to drop into a bg. Its all about offering the player more options.
Quit whining about something you wont step foot in anyway. Ofc doesnt surprise me this coming from someone who thinks Wildstar is a MMOFPS.
The problem with instanced pvp in an MMO is pretty obvious. It's basically the path of least resistance when it comes to progression in PvP. And because people flow down the path of least resistance, it only ends up sucking the energy out of world pvp. This is how WoW pretty much killed open world pvp early on before the bg days. We used to have some great open world fights in certain areas of the world until WoW opened the floodgates to these lame "capture the flag" bgs that made pvp progression far easier and more efficient. The end result was a dead open world pvp.
What I don't get is why certain people choose to play an MMO pvp like it's a single player PvP? If that's your preference, why not just stick with single player games that have those internet type lobbies for sports like competition? It would certainly be cheaper in the long run since you wouldn't have to pay a monthly subscription.
Thank you sir for this post. Your reply pretty much sums up why BGs and Arenas suck the life out of RvR. I think I might make this my signature. People say don't play if it bothers you, but as you said above, you really pinpointed exactly the problem.
IMPORTANT: Please keep all replies to my posts about GAMING. Please no negative or backhanded comments directed at me personally. 1. Archeage released 1.0 which basically pushed the game closer to themepark and boosted their cash p2w show and sold out their player base to make a quick buck
2. There aren't any other AAA mmo's in 2014. If this busts after 6 months big deal, Everquest, Camelot Unchained won't be out for a loonnng time 2015/2016.
3. RvR looks to be huge landwise, lets just hope its not a 5 minute keep flipping circle jerk like gw2 wvwvw where every server rotates each others tires ad naseum
4. Combat is nothing like GW2 thank you very much
5. Very easy to get immersed in this game
So fingers crossed that the 1-2 month euphoria we all feel won't fade away like it did with GW2 & FFXIV & every other AAA mmo that's come out the past 5 years

All your points are pure speculation - including ArcheAge - Korea is the only region that has 1.0 released - there is no indication that 1.0 in its current form will make it to other regions. Recent post on English ArcheAge site points in the direction that Trion won't blindly implement 1.0 as is - there will be changes.
We still dont know about longevity of ESO - the game could be a total blast but for how long? 2 months? There are many unanswered questions that can only be answered post launch.
i don't feel like its going to be 2 months but it is only going to be a couple of months and then people will be on here crying how it has no end-game ( because it DOESN'T!) and how they are slow with coming out and updating the avava( Since its the only type of pvp) ,the game/company is so bad there is not even dueling (and they are not adding it ).like how can you expect a game to be so great in pvp if it doesn't even have a basic Dueling system... yea good luck with your titanic lol
All this talk about Wildstar being an AAA MMORPG makes me wonder if anybody here has even played the beta.
Its a crappier futuristic version of WoW and feels more like one of those garbage japanese F2P games like Aika Online.
It does not compare whatsoever to the ESO beta. Not even on the same planet. And this was me going into both planning on playing both at release.
i am a Closed beta testers for both and was on the ESO fanboi train smack talking wildstar and it ( ESO) falls short in way more area's than wildstar. Did you play the eso beta ? for a big part of the time of the time all my friends and people were complaining about the que and getting froze, its also has a-lot of bug's that have yet to be fixed.ESO is not ready for launch and im going to enjoy seeing the rage when people rush to end-game in a couple of weeks and leave within a couple of months.

Second, the game was built to discourage rushing. If people rush through anyway, however they gimped their own experience is on them. Why? The Secret World gave the regular updates thing the old college try. FFXIV is still updating fast enough to keep subs. GW2 updates.
Is there some reason why ZOS won't be updating? Seeing the sheer amount of work they are putting into closed beta is astounding.
they are both bad, wildstar and ESO.So the debate for who's crappier, well that goes to Wildstar imo.
Instanced RvR with no death consequences will never appease me, if i get bored enough or my camelot unchained IT isn't taking up a lot of my time. I MAY try ESO, depending on how the next test goes where i can get to 10

SWG had great open world PvP.
I just like the train of thought here and am quoting this. I hope there is never any arenas or small scale PvP in ESO and hope that anything they add will be tied into Cyrodiil to maintain the large scale.
ESO lore is epic so as long as I feel like i'm in an ESO game and not GW2, Tera, Wildstar, WoW, or any themepark with fotm themes i'll stick around and pay the sub.
And that's the thing... I never played ES games, so as a person having completely objective approach, I don't see anything that would want me to play it more, than any other title you mentioned. It is even harder to explain it to people so passionate about the series... it is something more powerful than just fanboism... if it was Fallout mmo, I would be the one, that would like the game no matter how it actually was and try to explain to myself how great it is, despite it being plain.
I'm by no means an ES fanboy. I have never played any of the RPGs and I couldn't care less about how ESO deals with the lore of the series. I'm looking for a good MMO, plain and simple.
I've played in 3 betas. Early in the 1st beta, I almost gave up. I wasn't enjoying the combat. The game seemed to be on rails. And there were a number of bugs that were ruining the experience (like an entire town of people disappearing). But I stuck with it a little longer. I learned how to use block and interrupt and I got deeper into the customization options. I learned about crafting. I got immersed in the story. The world opened up and gave me options instead of rails. From then on I was hooked.
The game, to me, just feels more adult, and that has nothing to do with the M rating. It's mostly because other games like GW2, FFXIV and Wildstar seem so childish. In ESO, there isn't a mob every 5 feet. You can run around and explore without having to wade through a dozen mobs who all just happen to be standing in this one area. There are plenty of quests, but not so many that you've got a dozen going at one time. They take longer to complete and are more involved than typical MMO quests. I actually want to read the quest text rather than just click through it.
I haven't even tried PvP yet, but it sounds very much like I will enjoy it.
I can understand why some people got turned off by the starting experience. There's always too much hand holding at the start of games. But once you get past that the game really starts to shine IMO. I think I'll be playing it for a long time.

I don't get the insistence on labeling things as "childish" or "adult." They aren't very good qualifiers and we are talking about video games here. Can you use other words that would give a better idea of what you like or don't like?

Completely disagree. People will do what they find fun. If world pvp is fun people will do it. If arena is more fun people will do that. I am not a fan of world pvp, i may do it as a thing every once a month but not on average. However, i love arena's and battle grounds because they are more evenly matched in terms of number of people and power level.
The notion that game creators should not include what you don't like to force people who don't like what you like to do what you like as their only notion is a bit selfish and short sighted.

AGreed. I don't think we can call anything chiildish or adult. Especially when it come to video games conversations . I certainly wont get suckered into getting a game because it's marketed as "adult " again. THats how i bought conan.
Though I agree with the poster you're responding too in terms that ESO feels more epic novel in terms of its story and presentation. GW's story makes me feel (both the dungeon story and the personal story) like I'm playing Destro in Cobra Commanders biopic.

There were queues during a stress test? You don't say.

When I say childish, I mean things that would appeal to children. That doesn't make them good or bad. I like a lot of things that are intended for a younger audience. But some things just don't appeal to me. For example, the quest system in GW2 with the hearts all over the map and the silly quests. The game felt more like Mario Bros. than an MMO.
To me, it's the difference between watching Xena and Game of Thrones. I prefer a game that takes itself, and its players, more seriously.

I pre ordered as well and agree with all your points (especially the lore).
The people who think those who have pre ordered are somehow idiots, because those people didn't like the game for whatever reason, are in fact the idiots themselves.
Believe it or not? Games appeal to different people, for different reasons. Just because they hate a game, doesn't invalidate those who like it. It doesn't make their opinion, "right" because they don't like a game.
Those people who preach about how a game is bad, isn't going to show the people who like the game "the light" and our opinions about why we love ESO, isn't going to change. "Oh you guys don't like the game? Okay cool. I promise to never think for myself ever again, and uninstall the game right now." - not going to happen haters.
This isn't some form of Christianity, where you are "saying those" who disagree with you.

Plenty of games out there with more arena/instanced warzone focus for those who want it.
Pre-purchased the digital imperial edition a couple of days ago. I entered the last (first for me) beta weekend with quite low expectations and was pleasantly surprised by Zenimax's work. So, my MMO ventures for the foreseeable future are set. Raiding in Wildstar with my guild and playing casual and relaxed in ESO and SW TOR.

In the same turn, developers aren't obligated to put in features you like, just because you like it. There are plenty of other games that have arenas and BGs, why not play those for the features? If you'd rather play ESO, then you've already made the choice that X feature is worth more to you than instanced PvP.
Maybe others are playing ESO because it doesn't have instanced PvP. Insisting that the developers spend their time and funds implementing a feature just because you like it, is also selfish.

Lol you didn't call me out on anything I have been in the wildstar beta since late December and the eso Psijic beta since early Jan, I have gone through my fair share of bugs but I was referring to the bugs people complain about on the pts forums. Next time get your facts right so you don't get called out for being irrelevant, it also seems you don't know what ASSuming makes you look like.
Well it will fade away since the game is a generic MMO with TES skins and models. Yo uwill see once it is released. I would rather play GW2 than this one since it has more content and no monthly sub.
But i stick to Darkfall or Mortal Online which offer open world freedom, something that AAA MMO's dont have
Sorry to burst your bubble but GW2 is as generic as it goes.

I'm pretty sure you sir, are lying about being a closed beta tester for ESO. Many of the bugs closed beta testers see ARE fixed on the build ahead of what they got to play. Next time, don't say stuff where people can publicly call you out on it.
Second, the game was built to discourage rushing. If people rush through anyway, however they gimped their own experience is on them. ZOS intends on adding updates regularly, we'll see how that works out but it's like people expect the game to remain exactly the same....for months on end...until it kills its own player base.
Why? The Secret World gave the regular updates thing the old college try. FFXIV is still updating fast enough to keep subs. GW2 updates.
Is there some reason why ZOS won't be updating? Seeing the sheer amount of work they are putting into closed beta is astounding.
You went from your friends complaining about q in the stress test (speaking of which, q's in a stress test, the horror), straight to bugs. Read like you were still referring to the stress test. Read it again to be sure...yup, still reads like that. IF you were referring to stubborn PTS bugs, then sorry.
Not retracting the part about updates though. So far I haven't see any evidence of slow updating. Weird priority but not slow.
I've been staying away from all the beta's with this game, have never tried it and I refuse to. I don't want to spoil anything. I'm looking for a well crafted journey in a well crafted world. I want the RPG put back into my MMO.

I assume you are not talking about Wildstar as that's a subscription based MMORPG.

Thank you sir for this post. Your reply pretty much sums up why BGs and Arenas suck the life out of RvR. I think I might make this my signature. People say don't play if it bothers you, but as you said above, you really pinpointed exactly the problem.
SWG had great open world PvP.
i don't feel like its going to be 2 months but it is only going to be a couple of months and then people will be on here crying how it has no end-game ( because it DOESN'T!) and how they are slow with coming out and updating the avava( Since its the only type of pvp) ,the game/company is so bad there is not even dueling (and they are not adding it ).like how can you expect a game to be so great in pvp if it doesn't even have a basic Dueling system... yea good luck with your titanic lol

they are both bad, wildstar and ESO.So the debate for who's crappier, well that goes to Wildstar imo.
Instanced RvR with no death consequences will never appease me, if i get bored enough or my camelot unchained IT isn't taking up a lot of my time. I MAY try ESO, depending on how the next test goes where i can get to 10
I just like the train of thought here and am quoting this. I hope there is never any arenas or small scale PvP in ESO and hope that anything they add will be tied into Cyrodiil to maintain the large scale.
When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up. -CS Lewis
Just let people like what they want in peace.

Why is this in the ESO forum? I am still trying to figure that out... seems like a taunt to me.
Plenty of games out there with more arena/instanced warzone focus for those who want it.
