Do you have a character on Skyrim you go back to every time? A character you have invested time into molding to your gaming skills?  Maybe this is why people don't "feel it" when they play betas, they know their characters will be wiped, and therefore don't put much effort in being part of the game. /shrug

Honestly I have been putting a lot of hours in Oblivion! I like it as much or maybe more than Skyrim. Anyway, why can't you do both Skyrim and ESO? :)

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

Interesting comment and yet another reason I won't buy.

Here is a fun excersice for everyone to try. Log into skyrim play for a couple mins, then log into ESO and play for a couple mins, and keep doing that until the lightbulb turns on.

Tried the beta, not sure if the games for me.

I wont be an early adopter (done that with FAR too many MMOs) but I will watch for a while to see if I get the urge to play.

  • tawesstawess Member EpicPosts: 4,227

Nope... ES:O turned out to be (no surprise here) a Elder Scrolls game... Just with more funknuts in it. So i am going to give it a pass. It is way to serious for me and while i enjoy the freeform skills everything else is brown, grey and filled with enough doom and gloom to keep a army of shrinks well fed.

Not saying it is a bad game, just that it is not a game for me... Also i miiight have mentioned this before but the animations look like pure... (insert deity X) awful... anno 1997... crap. That really kills the game for me and it is the number one reason i do not like "realistic" games... I want to feel like a badass chosen warrior of fate, not jim-bob the village guard.

This have been a good conversation

More likely to be playing Titanfall.

Just finished playing the Beta.. A horrible buggy mess. It is so bugged that you cannot even get off the island. The refugee quest was bugged out so we had almost 40 people standing at a door that none of us could get through because some NPCs were stuck on a floor and no one was able to kill them.

You mean no PvP or grouping in a dungeon? Ya, that is why it's ok to play both.

Personally I thought it was awful.

I couldn't last any more than 10 minutes first time round.

I tried it again near midnight when the kids and Mrs were in bed, you know, to give it a proper try. I played about 90 minutes, forcing myself to keep going, thinking it might grow on me... it didn't.

    Gameplay = awful

    Camera = awful

    Story = boring

However, I thought the graphics were OK when on maximum settings. I also like how you could spend skill points in various different places.

In my opinion, they did all the little things right, and all the major things wrong.

    Shame.

    Playing: Nothing
Played: EQ1, EQ2, VG:SoH, WoW, AoC, LoTRO, Aion, L2, DF, WAR.
    Favourites: EQ1, VG:SoH, Original WoW.

I get it totally, sorry but Skyrim is a much, much better Elder Scrolls game. This is a significant problem for a lot of Elder Scrolls fans when it comes to ESO. ESO feels like a generic MMORPG with an ES skin....it's hard to get past this feeling, it really is.

Every time i play ESO, afterwards i play (or want to play) Skyrim. ESO does not satisfy my Elder Scrolls itch as much as Skyrim does.

I want to like ESO, I really do, but it's a very unsatisfying game to play at times.

Expresso gave me a Hearthstone beta key.....I'm so happy :)

Good thing its still in beta.

Beta? The game launches in a month; the game is now essentially in pre-release.

I don't think it's a disaster but it clearly isn't finished - as the devs themselves acknowledge in their "known issue, actively investigating" comments. At this stage they should be running "showcase weekends" not full blown beta tests.

Which is one reason I am more likely to be playing Titanfall on launch day. Later .....

This is the same build that was used 3 months ago. These are more stress tests for there them to workout server loads, not so much for us to get in there and create a perfect character.

As far as "showcase weekends", that would be up to them and their PR. I'm sure they will launch with more than enough players that they don't require this to happen.

Yes I know it is an "older" build - which simply means the new build hasn't had the same level of testing. There are acknowledged issues - many more than I would have hoped. And when the comments are "investigating" rather than "implementing fix" ... some of which are somewhat worrying. Sure there are more stress tests etc. planned - but after the tests are over they have to investigate and fix any further problems found ... but the game launches in a less than a month for early access

So I doubt there will be any showcase weekend.

Not a disaster but I feel very happy about giving the devs the extra time they clearly need.

    Yeah... 5 days earlier.

Prepared, but now enjoying the beta. Some bugs though.

I would've liked to give ESO a fair chance to at least prove me wrong on some points, and it has...a little, but it also raised a few issues for me. I didn't get to play very long and I just gave up and uninstalled the game. The game doesn't seem to have been optimized yet, which makes the performance on my computer a bit difficult. It's reminiscent of Skyrim at launch, same issue but they fixed it a few weeks later thankfully. Maybe they'll fix it for the next beta (if there's one?), who knows. I also kept crashing every 10 minutes or so, or even when I was just loading the character selection screen. It was a bit frustrating and annoying.

The graphics were better than I expected though, and they did get the first person perspective in quite well.  My main issue with the game are the classes/skills/number of skill slots. Sure there are skills for all kinds of weapons and then you've also got your class skills, but I actually disliked most skills. They did not interest me at all and did not give me that TES-vibe I was expecting. If anything, the only skill branch that I liked more than others was the rogue's Siphoning (did I get the name right?). I was also annoyed about being able to move through enemies, that shouldn't be happening for this kind of combat, although I get why they could've done that (as trolling players would likely make up walls to block the paths).

Won't be playing TESO at launch, and probably not later on unless it goes F2P though. That's just a personal preference of mine as I just don't pay for P2Ps anymore, I prefer paying for F2Ps instead. My schedule doesn't allow me to play video games that much lately. With that said, TESO doesn't seem as bad as I was expecting it, but it didn't appear, from what little I've been able to play in-between crashes, to be very interesting to me either. I guess it's in the middle for me.

i tried to give a 2nd chance this weekend and the game is a hell of a crap from mine tastes, i bleed from boredom to reach 10 lvl and meet its fabulus PvP, which was even worse than GW2... i dunno about meta gaming, but i saw only clunky animations/gameplay, anti social gameplay with the gatherings and the crappy resurrecting system, monotone colored world...

out of my taste, no reason to pay a sub for this thing even if it is your taste, there are tone of good RPG games which offer better story lol

I've gotten about 4 weekend betas in the first 3 ended at around level 8 each time. Other more fun  betas  were ripping me away as I am testing 5 or so more games anyway. That is usually a bad sign to begin with when i find myself having more fun playing betas that I have infinite time with vs something that should press me to play the full 3 days.

This beta weekend i finally push to level 14 went into Cyrodil did some pvp etc. Can't say much changed. The pvp was only good because the questing was so bland I didn't feel a need to be called back and play it. From what I've seen of Cyrodil so far there's going to be some definite burnout from people like me who get bored with the constant gangbang zerg pvp that this zones main objectives revolve around. The large scale pvp also makes it hard to give the feeling like you earned you rank or kills. I think the 100 person  leaderboards will do poorly in maintaining pride and the need to improve their pvp performance.

Questing  was not innovative to me at all. Sure they can talk a lot about mostly uninteresting stories(so many just devolved into a "save me please" quest) but they are fetch and kill quest for the most part. I've seen more innovation in WoW quest lines where I rode war machines inside the core of the earth to hold a molten titan, or dive from huge horde airships to quell alliance brigands. ESO quest felt like they were just leading me by the hand from one gray blob to another. That claim that you can complete quest in different ways way back when has also fallen through. Now they just stick a gimmicky disguise option in every quest (got so sick of them) and BAM "choices". Hordes of peoples rushing into the same phase wiping out the boss of your quest line is also pretty underwhelming. Some fights I just walked in and got credit for as they were zerged  down so fast.

Combat is exceptionally basic and cheap in the form of hit detection as it is not skill based. At least in auto target mmos you can move away from whatever the attack is and out range it. Here melee mobs can still hit you with charge up moves a half screen away. The AI is not challenging and makes the mob variation seem less than what it is because almost everything fights the same. Collision and weight is supposedly fixed but I've played enough betas to believe it when I see it at  launch. Granted even if they got the swing speeds, and combat feel right they would still need less boring skills. I play sorcerer exclusively and i can say i am more than disappointed with dark magic. They were given only 6 skills to design per class tree and yet they still managed to make 4 of 6 dark magic skills basically the same skill. Hit this and it stands in place. There are far more innovative ways to handle CC and debuffing than what they did. Skills in general don't force choice partly because one morph is usually overwhelming better than the other and because most skills are not the least bit complex.

Reading the classes in general I see the pattern of giving classes only one theme and 3 ways to flesh it out when it should have been three unique themes per class with one solid tree  per theme. Sorceror is guy who can kinda use dark magic but it's only lame purple crystals that all do the same thing, can kinda summon stuff and random armor buff, and can kinda use lightning. This is probably why I find it hard for the classes to differentiate themselves from sorcerer to sorcerer or templar to templar etc.

Exploration wise I have yet to see ESO capture the feeling of finding something amazing or of giving me the thought of traveling in wide open space to begin with except  Cyrodil. I'll never forget traveling from Barrens in WoW and stumbling upon the Jurassic themed Un'Goro Crator next to it. Later finding myself in infected deserts assaulted by foreign nerubian beetle soldiers. ESO has made me feel like there's some empty space to run through with a few whiny townspeople sprinkled throughout as I find some skyshards or look for an anchor.

Lastly I've heard this is the old build and they can show a nice 5-8 min clip from time to time, but from what I've played I'd say it's safe to be on the fence. Especially with enough quest and dungeon bugs among others to remind me of  horror that was The Secret World Beta.

So now that I've played and experienced ESO in the beta. Can make a list of things I liked and didn't like.

    Pros:

Player customization is pretty beefy and detailed.

Variety of races to choose from (even though most were variations of humans and elves).

    Voice acting for quest givers.

    3 factions.

Has that single-player feel to the game.

The random weather encounters are well done.

Questing is some times done by exploring.

    ---

    Cons:

The bland art style and area design.

Phasing; want to play with friends in the open world? Forget it.

The camera; third person having issues and the game causes really bad motion sickness.

The random weather encounters are phased; thunder and lightning for you whilst clear skies for the person standing next to you.

This feels like a poor console port; menus are designed with a control stick in mind.

Clunky animations and movement is janky; jumping is floaty and not exact whilst combat skills have constant pathing issues.

    Lack of polish.

    ---

Final verdict. This product in my eyes is not fit for launch. Nor is it worthy for a subscription model. Even if you like this game. You should feel insulted that you are expected to pay monthly for this.

I am going to get this game at launch for the PS 4 as it feels like it was made for that system and by then most of the bugs and issues should be worked out thanks to the PC game starting a few months sooner.

Will you be playing Elder Scrolls Online at launch?

In the answer to that question I would have to think everyone would be saying no, because the game will be off line or people wont be able to log in.

Spot on, Azure. I couldn't have said it better. There is a lot of potential here for great things, but they have a lot of kinks to iron out.

    Agreed.

To think people are actually willing to pay monthly for this is surprising.

If it launches like this, I suspect F2P within the first 6 months. The game simply doesn't warrant a subscription fee, and to be brutally honest, you can download games for free that offer much more.
