The lack of CE is somewhat disappointing, but it's no big deal. This way I don't have to spend $150 to "have it all", but instead just $15 above the normal box price just to get the Digital Deluxe version.
....HOWEVER....
I'm very bothered that the metal case version of the Deluxe Edition physical is only available to EU customers. Look, I understand that EU is probably a bigger target audience than NA customers based on some internal studies and whatever, but they still shouldn't knock out all of the NA just based on some survey polls.
To the issue of whether or not a CE is "low confidence" is about the most recent CE shinanigans that went on for The Elder Scrolls Online. That's a game that is using it's CE to SELL AN ENTIRE RACE LOCKED BEHIND A CASH WALL! That's ridiculous! The rest of the of it is just generic "making of" stuff, maps, and a statue. Look, my shelf is full of statues from past CE's that really don't fit together (should Darth Malgus be standing next to Rytlock and a Dragon? Really?!).
It seems that as of late, all players express for a CE is that they want the digital content and almost always ignore the extra stuff. Carbine can see this and easily go: "Hey, let's skip the extra CE artwork, skip the "making of" composition, skip the extra map, and skip the cost of creating a CE that may cost more than we sell them for. Instead, let's take the digital items, put it in a "Deluxe" version, and sell that." The idea works perfectly for them . Hell, if they want to sell a sound track they can still even sell one of those digitally on the NCSoft store without putting cost to disc printing or more art work related to it.
It is a bit odd that there is no CE. I can't think of any AAA MMORPG that didn't have one at launch...
It can't be because "it's not ready yet". The physical contents of a CE has to be planned many months ahead of launch. The production runs have to be booked in some factory in China, printing of books, maps, etc. has to be booked, the items have to be shipped to where the contents will be packed and the CE's have to be distributed to retailers. If they don't have a list of contents and production samples by now, they're not going to make it in time for launch.
What is the "official" explanation for this from the PR guys ?

The problem with that logic is that the physical version of the ESO CE is sold out, everywhere. Clearly, regardless of what some people might say on forums, the demand exists for physical CEs. Not making one is essentially leaving money on the table, *if* you believe a substantial number of people are truly excited for your game.
Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The Force shall free me.
I'm sure there will be one, eventually. Step one is controversy, hype it up enough... then comes the release with super uber ingame pets and trinkets! You may get a comic book ($3.99 extra shipping and handling)...

Why does anyone want a collectors edition? it's not as if they are actually collectable and going to be worth anything in the future.
Personally I find it refreshing that they haven't listed a collectors edition and tried to rip off thier customers for $100+
“Nevertheless, the human brain, which survives by hoping from one second to another, will always endeavor to put off the moment of truth. Moist” ― Terry Pratchett, Making Money
The lack of Collector's Edition means that they don't want to milk their playerbase for a few extra worhtless extras, and it's appreciated.
My opinion is my own. I respect all other opinions and views equally, but keep in mind that my opinion will always be the best for me. That's why it's my opinion.
No, They don't want to lock a race behind a paywall like TESO does. You should admire them for it. It seems to be the only recent fair P2P game. Fair in the way that you all pay the same and get the same end product.

Yes, Zenimax should be punched in the face for such a dick move. But what exactly has it to do with WildStar not having a CE? Nobody forces them to include a race-lock paywall in their CE.. they can include other stuff, can't they? So your posting just fits in your "hate on ESO"-scheme on these forums. It makes no sense at all, Mr. fanboy.
Personally I couldn't care less for CEs. Never bought one, never will be.

Because if its any less it will be just a simple cash grab like all other CEs.
Oh well at least in Gw2 I got a Rytlock toy, some soundtrack CDs and a book in a metal box, somewhat justifiable. But in-game rewards even in P2P MMO at that is really a dick move.
I guess what I'm saying is that if you plan to have a fair game and you can't come up with something better to justify the high cost, you better not include any CE.

I will be playing Wildstar at launch, but let's be fair here. You can't really say that when they have a Digital Deluxe edition that costs a few bob more with (what some might consider) worthless extras.
If you have played the beta , rest assured, you would not lump out the money for a CE. But if you are upset that there isnt one I can make a map, mold some clay into a figurine, and give you a toy from my daughters box to help you out.

Me neither. I don't even pre-order games, much less CE.
As for not having enough money, OP, very unlikely. MMORPGs cost much much, much more than single player games and those still have CE. Very hard to believe they don't have the extra cash to build some figurines to sell. Not to meantion NCSoft is the publisher.
Don't they have a deluxe edition already that gives you the Rocket house or whatever? If all that's missing is a physical CE with a figure or plushy or something, i think they can still make those.
Somehow I doubt this is the case. Honestly I am confused why this is even a debate. Half the people complain when you make a CE, the other half complain when you don't, and those that will play the game, play the game. Perhaps they did not feel they would gain anything in the long run by selling a CE. Believe what you will about it, if you feel that it indicates low confidence, then that is your own decision. However judging from the in game community, I would say most of them would disagree with you saying they have low confidence in the game.
CE's IMHO are just a way to grab more cash ... Ill admit that i bought one once, Tabula Rasa, i know , dumb move right .. but i was so excited about that game ... ill never buy another CE again .. ever ...
They have no reason/sense/point behind them. People who buy physical CE's usually want them just for the physical item that looks good on their shelf. Physical CE's are also expensive to create (thus the price) and in case of Carbine I think the idea is to save some costs by not offering physical CE's.
Originally posted by CazNeerg What do people think? Collector's editions are pretty standard for any big game, whether it's an MMO or not, and MMO launches almost always have them. AAA MMO launches pretty much categorically have them. ESO, for example, has it's physical Imperial Edition listed as out of stock at every online retailer. Any decently popular MMO with a truly limited (low number of copies, rather than a marketing CE with a huge number of copies) Collector's Edition *will* sell out, so it seems hard to me not to view this decision as indicating a lack of confidence from the developer. Wildstar has been talked about as being a AAA title, so why isn't Carbine acting like it's a AAA title?
It indicates that they are not trying to scam people with worthless collector's editions. Nothing is collectable in these so called collector's editions, its a pure money making scheme to con the mentally challenged.
Before anyone says: "But there is a statue/other plastic gimmick in the box that is a collectable"
No it is not because it will never be rare due to the amount of them produced. If you had a limited run of 1000 then we have a collectible.

ESO has a big controversy because of their CE, so they don't do one to try and profit from that outrage.
They have a big controversy because their CE includes game content which should be free to all players - standard and CE buyers. That was a really dumb decision from Zenimax. But nobody would argue about a CE with some cosmetic items or an included soundtrack. The argumentation of the most people in here seems illogical. At the end of the day it's pure speculation why they're not planning a CE.. we just have to get used to it.

I think its just risk management, new IP, new studio, im sure they didnt want to invest to much in designing all the little nick knacks for a physical CE, then you have to deal with more manufacturers and inventory, probably much more of a headache.
A game like TOR or ESO, Very big name IP, from big studios, they were fairly certain to sell the collector's editions that they made. Even then they made only so many, when they could have, in theory sold more. This is also part of risk management.

Yeah they will profit from their ingame cash shop instead
Way to misslead and lie about a game to besmirch its reputation. Wildstar doesn't have cash shop, only a system for players with money and little time to transfer game time to players without money but a lot of time, of which Carbine doesn't gain anything, other than happy players staying to play their game.
